Fun fact, when revolvers first came out they were called revolving pistols. They also quickly replaced the pepper-box which had multiple barrels each with it's own bullet, each barrel acting as it's own chamber. You would revolve the barrels. In a weird way the pepper-box was a reverse revolver before they were a thing.

@@marreco6347 And it amazes me that they once were common, I only learned about them because of Forgotten Weapons. The revolver replaced them so thoroughly they really did become a forgotten weapon. At least people know what a musket at a glance just by looking at it if not the make, model and company. When a pepper-box showed up in a show my roommate was watching they had no idea what it was and I told them about it.

@@livingcorpse5664 I dont think that pepper boxes are forgotten, they are just an intermediate step from the single shot flintlock pistols to the modern revolver. To begin with you had your single shot pistol, to increase your fire rate you just carried additional pistols with you, since reloading them takes a lot of time. After that came the pistols with multiple "guns" on them, basically barrel, chamber, action and most of the time even their own triggers. the next step is a single trigger for multiple "guns" (like double barrel shotguns) and then a single action for multiple barrels (like a derringer) and thats when you arrive at the pepper box. The last iteration is the revolver, where you reduce weight and material by having multiple chambers but a single barrel.

There was this puzzle in BM:S where you had to turn a fusebox off to proceed, but it was unreachable. They just put a plank blocking the switch so when you shot it the switch would turn off. Much better than shooting some random green button. Also being a gun nerd made the revolver epiphany 10× funnier.
