I can easily see that the anime clips, whatever it is from, was a product of the post-war generation, playing on themes of existential crisis and mass destruction. Just looking at the people getting vaporized easily reminds us of the horrors of war, and that even the atomic bombs dropped on hiroshima was actually considered as a "lesser evil" than an amphibious invasion of Japan. We should be thankful that we live in a day where people aren't discussing "lesser evils"..
