三笠市の鉄道遺産 Railroad Heritage in Mikasa City

三笠市では1882年(明治15年)、北海道で最初の蒸気機関を用いた鉄道が手宮(小樽市)幌内(三笠市)間で開通している。幌内炭鉱で採掘された石炭の港への輸送ルートとして活躍し、北海道の近代化に大きな役割を果たしていた。しかしながら1970年以降の炭鉱閉山に伴い、輸送物資、利用客の減少によって1987年、105年の歴史に幕を降ろした。
In 1882, Hokkaido's first railway line with steam locomotives opened between Otaru and Mikasa. At the time, it was a transportation line for transporting coal mined in the coal mines in Mikasa to the port of Otaru, and it contributed greatly to the modernization of Hokkaido. However, with the closure of the coal mines in the 1970s, the number of transported goods and passengers decreased, and the line was abolished in 1987.
