A Taste of the Azores with Angela Castro

Bolos levedos
5 lbs flour
3 cups sugar
10 eggs
½ cup butter room temperature
2 tbsp salt
3 tbsp yeast
4 cups warm milk
1 cup warmer water
In a small bowl put, yeast 1 tbsp sugar, 2 tbsp flour and water. Mix well and put aside. In a large bowl place flour and salt. In a mixer place butter, sugar and eggs beating well until fluffy. Add egg mixture and yeast mixture to the flour making sure it's well mixed. Cover, let rise for 15 minutes, after giving a few folds to start pulling the gluten to stretch the dough. Cover again and let the dough rest to rise or until doubled in size. Warm up the electrical grill and set at 300 degrees. Pull small pieces of dough shaping into tennis ball size and place aside to rest. Shape all the dough once done then start cooking the first one that was shaped. The balls will flattened on their own once they are flipped. Cook for 5 minutes per side on until golden brown and they feel firm to touch.

Hi Miss Angela, I made these with you sitting up on my countertop yesterday. It was like we were in the kitchen together! My family has GONE CRAZY over them!!!! Especially my father in law who is from Sao Miguel, it made me happy to be able to give him a taste of home. These turned out DELICIOUS and it made so many - plenty to share with friends and family. Everyone was so amazed that I made them, asking HOW did you do that. I told them well I followed along with a nice lady from the Azores. She taught me. :) Thank you so much for your videos. I’m a 26 year old stay-at-home-mom to two young daughters and my husband is half Portuguese. Before the pandemic, we were able to visit his father’s hometown. Since we haven’t been able to return, I’ve been making milk tarts and any Portuguese treats I can for them. You have been a great help. Again, the bread is AWESOME!!!! I'm your video and I'm very impressed, because you left young woman from your country and how good you are in your kitchen, old school i gess because I come very young to Canada, and I'm coking portuguese food to I mix sometimes Italian Greek Spanish and so one same dishes we like in my house,but most is portuguese, my husband is German but he loves portuguese food he isn't a picky he loves everything a coke and is a good thing, so I'm happy I found your channel and I love your story about yourself very nice thank you for sharing it with all of us i always give you thames up because that's really what you need, I'm from the island of Faial Azores and I live in Calgary Alberta is a beautiful city with beautiful mountains ⛰ i continue watching your videos❤🤟🇵🇹🇨🇦🥧

Hi!! I made bolos levedos today for my Portuguese husband. When our family heard I was making these they all came over and had some. Such a special dish. Thank you for this recipe - I will give yours a try. They said mine didn’t have enough bubbles on the inside but the taste was spot on... I added the zest of 1 lemon to mine. We ate them with butter and homemade jam. Yummy!!!! We closed our eyes and pretended we were in Sao Miguel again.... love your video thank you

No I am not from Furnas I am from lomba de São Pedro. The last village that belong to concelho da ribeira grande.
