I totally agree with Eric Whitacre: The singing here was indeed very beautiful. The balance and blend were 'amazingly' executed with no section of voices left out, and every dissonant note in this difficult work was clearly represented. I especially appreciated the middle voices here, especially in the women's section. The male voices also sang with great sensitivity, being careful not to outdo the women in any way. This was true 'ensemble' singing done very, very well...No wonder the composer himself was elated at this wonderful effort...BRAVO!

Thanks! There are several interpretations about how to bind sections together, how crescendos and decrescendos are used. Also tempo wise it can change quite a bit. It was inspirational to get the direction right from the source this one time :)

Der Dave you probably haven't really listend correctly, under the leadership of the composer it definitely changes, certainly if you have read the score accordibg the dynamics and text phrasing.

Why should it change? It sounds like the recorded version as conducted by Eric, and is here conducted by Eric. It frankly drives me nuts when performances of songs sound vastly different, as if there's no consistency. A re-arrangement is one thing, but this was perfectly sung and conducted.
