My late Dad carried a Model 60 as his CCW from the late 1970s till his passing in 2010. That little revolver also road on his hip, as a "snake gun" loaded with CCI shot cartridges, when he was walking the pastures on our family farm. The 60 accounted for several ill tempered copperheads and one or two rather large rattlers. Mom learned to shoot the 60 and kept it close to hand for her protection until her passing in 2016. My younger brother now carries that same Model 60 as HIS CCW and his wife feels well armed indeed with it when she carries it .

As always, another great video! I carry a Model 60 that I won in a raffle some years ago. Light, easy to keep clean and is very accurate at shorter ranges. In Police Revolver Competition, I used a Model 15-4 quite effectively. Hogue Mono Grips and a highly polished action allowed me to clean many twenty-five yard stages. Keep up the good work!

Some additonal reasons for one: - They are dirt cheap in .38 used because everybody wants a .357 (Guess it might be the same in the US) - They are save and understandable in handling - no brittled plastic in 40 years on functioning parts - Less aggressive appeal to the public and not considered a semi-automatic weapon -> Safer from future gun restrictions. (In my country)

Oswald was a patsy but a great example of what snub nosed 38s are capable of. I think Ruby used a Colt Detective Special. John Lennon on the other hand was assassinated with a Charter Arms Undercover... the older 70s versions, of which I own one, are truly beautiful, aesthetically pleasing and reliable revolvers, imho... I can't imagine a world without good old fashioned snub nose 38 specials.

I used to work uniformed security at a high-end gated community in south FL back in the 1980's and I carried this revolver in an ankle holster as a back-up and it served me well. I actually carried an S&W model 60, which was the the same exact thing as the model 36 except it was stainless steel. I say "was the same" because S&W later changed the model 60 into the revolver it is today, which is now a compact .357 Magnum but back in the 70's and 80's the model 60 was strictly a two-inch .38 Special.

Old fart here...I've got a blued 36 that I've had for over 40 years and only use jacketed hollow points in it, standard velocity. I practice every few months shooting @ 10 yards by pointing and shooting and have no problem keeping all shots in 4 inch center mass on silhouette target, only double action. Never, not even once, had a problem with pistol. If I have spare ammo and time, I run one or two cylinders aiming single action on the head and regularly have two inch 5 shot groups. And yes, I do trust this pistol with my life, and more importantly my family's lives, with this remarkably dependable and accurate gun.

Always great content thank you. My S&W Model 36 was purchased new in 1966 by my father and in my possession since the early 70s and I carry it now as part of my everyday carry rotation. People saying they are not accurate at longer ranges are very mistaken. I practice regularly at point and shoot 5 ft out to over 30 yards and have no problem shooting a nice group with my reloads of HBWC especially at the 10 yard distance. I also keep them in for self-defense loads. I figure if you and others like Hickok45 can shoot a Gong like he has shown with his S&W 36 at 80 yards it's accurate enough for me. The challenge of long range shooting with this gun is a blast. Thanks again for all the great videos.

I agree about the difficulty in racking an auto's slide. I am 66 with reasonably good hand strength (I lift a lot of weights, 5 days a week) but I have to cock the hammers on my 45's or Hi-Power before I can pull the slide back. I find that Beretta's and Walther P-38's slide-mounted safety levers give me an "ear" to hook a finger over, and racking the slide is then no problem. I have never accidentally snicked the safety onto Safe while doing so. But...I also love revolvers. No muss, no fuss, put any mixture of ammo into the cylinder and it will work. --Old Guy

He was a family practitioner, and he and his 3 associates ALL carried pistols in their Philadelphia office. He passed away a couple of years ago, but one of his partners told me a story two days ago. The oldest partner (Dr. A) had pistols hidden throughout the office, and carried a derringer in his lab coat. He came into an examining room that Dr. B was in, and when he yanked his stethoscope out of his pocket, the derringer flew out, twirled across the room, and landed at Dr. A's feet. Yes, there was a patient in the room...lol

Thank you mixup98 you are my favorite gun channel. The 5 shot .38 snub is a classic and still perfect for the job. The modern .327 Federal magnum cartridge with an extra inch of barrel makes for a real upgrade to this classic snubnose. You will have 20% higher capacity (6 shot vs 5 shot) and twice the muzzle energy. So effectively it is more than twice the firepower in a similar size gun with still manageable recoil. The 3" Ruger SP101 6-shot .327 magnum comes to mind.

another great video! also a snub revolver is much easier for a person to retain during a physical struggle. Likewise no slide that needs to reciprocate just pull the trigger. I saw you using a contact method for shooting and that's also one of the advantages to a revolver. The point about different loads being loaded and fired (i.e. snakeshot) makes for a great outdoor carry gun in the woods or wilderness. the fact that .38 special is quite common in even big name stores is good too. Finally mixup98 I LOVE your channel. I have been shooting since I was 8 (am 55 now) and I can tell you that you Sir are an excellent shot and very well trained/practiced with firearms knowledgeable as well. thank you for the entertaining and informative videos. There seems to be a bit of a myth still running around about semi-automatics and physical struggles...if someone were to grab the slide the gun is somehow inoperable....not so provided you have a cartridge chambered. If one does carry a semi-automatic with no chambered cartridge, there are carrying a paper weight. Grab the cylinder on a revolver the handgun is inoperable as it will not index to the next cartridge to shoot. Just my opinion...further, don't let anyone grab your handgun !!

Truth and excellent shooting, as per mixup98's usual protocol! People no longer recommend revolvers to first-time shooters these days, especially seniors, and that's a shame. The ONLY challenge with a J-frame is the trigger and a simple trigger kit makes that a breeze.

I'd say the Revolver was Especially Effective at Close Range another thing I like about the Revolver is it can also be Fired From a Coat pocket as it Does not need too Cycle to Eject the Round As Always my Friend Excellent Video and Amazing Scenery I need to visit Nevada 😎👍🏼 Keep up the Awesome Productions Looking forward as Always to your next video

Also the snub nose revolver especially the concealed hammer/ hammerless.. is extremely effective for close quarter combat.. it can be jammed into the person's torso.. and fired without jamming the gun..(as a semi-auto might jam)... With no Hammer to snag on the hammerless models.. the snub nose revolver really lends itself well to close up personal self defense... Most of these scenarios someone comes up to you and ask for a quarter.. or a match.. or directions or the time... To distract you and then all of a sudden they are on top of you hitting you over your head and attacking you perhaps stabbing you.. a snub nose revolver comes in extremely handy and reliable for attacks like this

Those panel grips look great, I've started putting them on all my revolvers one by one. Just gives an old school look!! Good video--awesome accurate shooting too

It’s good enough for me. My EDC is a 2” revolver with 38 special +p 158 grain lswchp. For my reload I use a safariland comp 2 speed loader. Good video.

Beyond the hand strength issue, the cleaning is a lot quicker with the revolver

I just traded for a 3 inch blued square butt S&W Model 36-1 today. It was made in 1976 and looks like it's been safe kept since then. I've already ordered some Pachmayr grips for and and just need a holster. I love this revolver. I'd been looking for another J-Frame since I gave my mom my S&W Model 60 snub nose .38 SPL.

My EDC is a Ruger LCR .357 magnum with a LaserMax. Its lightweight, reliable, and fits perfectly in a front pocket holster. I can carry it anywhere without worrying about it printing. I keep it stoked with Winchester 110 gr JHP’s which are loaded lighter than most Magnum rounds but hotter than any 38+p.

Love the 36-- I had one back in 69 and sold it...So I bought another a year or so ago but it didn't feel the same until I bought a pair of 1970 stock grips, it might just be my hand or my brain but the 1970 grips are a little more beefier and ergonomically fit my hand better, so I'm a happy camper once again.
@mixup982 жыл бұрын
I don't know why S&W thought that they had to change the grip on their older revolvers, which I also like much better than the newer grips. I am glad to hear that you are now a happy camper once again 👍

@@mixup98 Right now, wood is more expensive to make. So to cut down cost, plastic is here. This is why Glock is cheaper. Also now an average revolver is at $900, while an average 15 rounders auto with plastic frame is at $500.

I still carry on occasion my S&W 1955 (or 1956?) 5 shot Bodyguard Airweight. My 9mm Shield or 9mm Compact are my preferred choices for EDC though. Thanks for another quality video.
@baronedipiemonte39902 жыл бұрын
There was a time when the revolver was the choice for the average "Joe" because, believe it or not, revolvers WERE more affordable than the semi-auto. A 5/6 shot .38 special revolver with a 2/3" barrel can be quite accurate if you use good ammo and practice

Thanks for the video! and glad you faced off those pesky bugs. I carry 2 S&W M36's, one in the small of my back and one on my ankle. Its interesting and appreciated that you compared the Shield, which is my truck gun and bedside standby. The M36 .38 spl really is a classic, dependable, easy to carry, and fun to shoot revolver. Thanks again !!!

There's something very iconic about that snub-nosed revolver. Weapon of choice of detectives and police for personal defense; and the weapon of choice for criminals and gang members who needs to pack or make a hit.

At one time, yes. They still have their place. As a one-time cop back in the eighties, I still gravitate to the five-shot steel wheel a lot, and still have the one I bought the day I was sworn in on the job. I also have the one my dad, also a one-time lawman, had when he died ten years ago (that one is as old as I am.)

A J-frame snub is not my EDC but my 637 is so light and handy it makes a perfect back pocket gun (backed up with six spare rounds in a Bianchi Speed Strip in my front pocket) for my daily morning walk. I also have a 2" Taurus 85CH (concealed hammer) that is a great grab-and-go front of the pants gun.
