My point is, whether Hondo is a sergeant or a surveillant, should not determine if a ticket should be issued or not. I would have liked to see it played out under the assumption that he was just a surveillant. Receive the ticket, then identify himself. That would have been grounds for termination of that officer on the spot for demonstrating an act of racism and irrational conduct. Hondo was simply trying to prove a point and show the reality of what's happening in our society today, but his girl spoke too fast and identified him as sergeant. Therefore, the cop's response was "why didn't you tell me sooner". Hondo should not have had to! Do you see privileges here???

He was pulled over for an "aggressive lane change" and he can only detain you for as long as it would reasonably take to complete the purpose of that stop. Also he can't demand ID from the passenger of the vehicle, and he can't search your vehicle without permission or probable cause. These are clear violations of Constitutional Rights and if this were to happen to you in real life you would be able to sue the officer, the department and the municipality he represents.

This true story about four black men went into a Denny's restaurant outside of Washington, DC and when they were ready to order, they were they have to pay first before they can get their food. That restaurant didn't realize those four men were part of then-President Clinton's Secret Service detail. The DOJ started investigating and found out most of Denny's throughout the country had a practice of making black customers pay before their meals were served, but white customers can pay at the register. Why? "We had too many black people, usually the young kids, walk out before paying, so we were asking our wait staff to have them pay first before their meals." The Justice Department came down hard and made Denny's pay a hefty fine and retrain their management and staff as part of their agreement.

First, as a passenger she did not have to identify for a traffic stop. He did not have to identify if it was a bogus stop, and could have and should have requested a supervisor on scene before presenting ID. Finally traffic stops may not be extended beyond 20 minutes without probable cause. Summoning the drug dog is not sufficient. As a cop he would or should have known these rights encoded in law.

Actually in most states the officer can request the passenger to ID themselves, as during a traffic stop the officer has jurisdiction over the entire car not just the driver. Other then that you are correct hondo should have requested a supervisor before identifying himself
@claroschmidt93042 жыл бұрын
Driver doesn't get to determine if a stop is bogus, but he must identify himself. An aggressive lane change SOUNDS bogus, but it COULD be an improper lane change dependent on the circumstances. The LE should be able to explain the violation if requested to, but does not need to. Also, if you asked me for a supervisor and the stop was lawful, I'd tell you to take a trip down to the station and request a supervisor. Also, you don't need PC to extend a traffic stop. Reasonable suspicion alone is all you need to conduct a traffic stop investigation. Investigating fraudulent tags alone can take north of 30 minutes for a somewhat new officer with sufficient resources. Even longer for an officer with access to basic resources.

Here's your information back, have a nice day." As the cop is walking back to his shop, the lawyer goes, "you're not even giving a verbal warning?" And the cop says, "I don't deal with lawyers.
