Hondo was being very careful to not do *anything* that could be used against him later to justify the other cop getting aggressive. If it was me, I'd have taken the ticket and then showed up at the traffic cop's commanding officer's office and let the cop explain to his boss his abuse of the law to harass a black man... just because he *didn't know that man was ALSO a cop.*

I didn't make that up its an old school quote from the 1800's but cops are people too and not all of them apply to protect and serve and put their lives before others anymore, and that's coming from someone whos entire family went into law enforcement. You can think its just a tv show, but stuff like this happens all the time and pretending it doesn't because it hasn't or cant happen to you is unfortunately part of the problem.... Here's hoping it never happens to you though take it easy.

My point is, whether Hondo is a sergeant or a surveillant, should not determine if a ticket should be issued or not. I would have liked to see it played out under the assumption that he was just a surveillant. Receive the ticket, then identify himself. That would have been grounds for termination of that officer on the spot for demonstrating an act of racism and irrational conduct. Hondo was simply trying to prove a point and show the reality of what's happening in our society today, but his girl spoke too fast and identified him as sergeant. Therefore, the cop's response was "why didn't you tell me sooner". Hondo should not have had to! Do you see privileges here???

This happened recently in the Philippines. One of my brother in laws was pulled over by a police officer (my wife was visiting there) and of course asked to see his identification. He handed it over and the cop saw the last name on it, and asked if he was related to General Azurin the newly promoted PNP (Philippine National Police) Chief. His reply, yes he's my brother. My wife said the cop turned very pale and let them go.

0:49 In Rodriguez v. United States, No. 13-9972 (2015), the U.S. Supreme Court held that, absent reasonable suspicion, unnecessarily prolonging a traffic stop can constitute an unreasonable seizure. He was pulled over for an "aggressive lane change" and he can only detain you for as long as it would reasonably take to complete the purpose of that stop. Also he can't demand ID from the passenger of the vehicle, and he can't search your vehicle without permission or probable cause. These are clear violations of Constitutional Rights and if this were to happen to you in real life you would be able to sue the officer, the department and the municipality he represents.

This true story about four black men went into a Denny's restaurant outside of Washington, DC and when they were ready to order, they were they have to pay first before they can get their food. That restaurant didn't realize those four men were part of then-President Clinton's Secret Service detail. The DOJ started investigating and found out most of Denny's throughout the country had a practice of making black customers pay before their meals were served, but white customers can pay at the register. Why? "We had too many black people, usually the young kids, walk out before paying, so we were asking our wait staff to have them pay first before their meals." The Justice Department came down hard and made Denny's pay a hefty fine and retrain their management and staff as part of their agreement.

First, as a passenger she did not have to identify for a traffic stop. He did not have to identify if it was a bogus stop, and could have and should have requested a supervisor on scene before presenting ID. Driver doesn't get to determine if a stop is bogus, but he must identify himself. An aggressive lane change SOUNDS bogus, but it COULD be an improper lane change dependent on the circumstances. The LE should be able to explain the violation if requested to, but does not need to. Also, if you asked me for a supervisor and the stop was lawful, I'd tell you to take a trip down to the station and request a supervisor. Also, you don't need PC to extend a traffic stop. Reasonable suspicion alone is all you need to conduct a traffic stop investigation. Investigating fraudulent tags alone can take north of 30 minutes for a somewhat new officer with sufficient resources. Even longer for an officer with access to basic resources.

@@Manifoldrock760 There are lots of vids of Cops pulling over other Black cops who happen to rank higher than the officers who pulled them over. There is one in particular where the officers got a lil handsy until they found out he was a Captain! They turned ghostly white afterward. But it just goes to show you that these traffic stops are a hustle and bogus in lots of cases.

In "Real" Life Situations Like This (For People Of Color That's EVERYDAY), I've Would've Told Her To Just Keep Quiet & Let Me Handle The Situation & "Don't Show Anything" Until He Finds "Nothing", Then You Flash Your Credentials. She Sold Hondo Completely Out. Facts.

dejohn913, you really should learn the difference between "opinions" and "facts." HINT: Facts are not just strong opinions. There is a fundamental difference between the two. BTW, whether or not I agree with your opinions is irrelevant here. I'm talking about intellectual honesty in the use of language.

But On The Other If You're "Not" A Person Of Color, Then You Haven't Experienced The Trauma That We As Black And Brown People Had Went Through And Still Going Through. And Weather Or Not If I'm Not Talking Intelligent Enough For You, I See "Facts" From A Whole Different Perspective Then You Do & Some Will Definitely Agree To That Statement. Jonas you are correct. About 15 years ago I was in a laundromat washing clothes and a young man came in with clothes had a do rag ( excuse my spelling) on his head and was carrying himself in a way I felt uncomfortable. I finished my clothing and he was so kind offering to carry things out for me. He was a wonderful young man. That day changed my thinking and I realized due to the way he was dressed not to judge people. It was a great learning experience. We are all different and we need to be thankful we are. This scene sickens me. This doesn't just happen to non-white people but it is wrong.

@@CrimsonRaven51 truth. Years ago I got into an elevator in my office building. I was dressed for the office so no doubt about why I was in the building and this white lady clutches her purse and moves against the wall. How many purse snatchers wear ties and dress shoes and prowl office buildings? They live in fear because of their imagination but scoff at us for living in fear of our reality.

So apparently there's two types of people cops won't mess with. Other cops, especially those who outrank them, and lawyers. Was talking to a man at the golf course I work at, said his buddy got pulled over a week and some change after he finished the bar exam. So new fresh lawyer gets pulled over, while going to pull his license the cop sees his bar card and according to his buddy, the cop says "nope, you can put that back up. Here's your information back, have a nice day." As the cop is walking back to his shop, the lawyer goes, "you're not even giving a verbal warning?" And the cop says, "I don't deal with lawyers. I can't afford a bad call to my supervisor." And pulls away. Now what does that say about some of our law enforcement officers?
