The Black Panther situation is entirely misrepresented here. The group were attacked by the police who were forcefully trying to evict them. You should do a video or make an edit. Cause this was police brutality. The police even tried to cover it up. So video or an edit would really help showing people what really happened. It should be mentioned that the Black Panther shootout was provoked by the police. Due to political and racial reasons ( which was very common at the time ) the police was forcing the people inside the house saying they are there to evict them even though they paid rent. Intimidation tactics and threats by the police soon lead to provocation of violence started by the police who later trying to cover it up by using their nails to create holes only one confirmed shot by the Black Panthers. This was discovered on a investigation. The SWATs wounded several of them for being in a civil rights movement. Both the FBI and police under the leadership of J.Edgar Hoover were battling civil rights groups. This raid wasn’t covered by the NEWS since it was a common sight at the time. A small correction would be: GSG9 is not just a "regular" SWAT team. They are the tier-1 domestic counter-terrorism unit of Germany which most closely resembles a mix between the FBI HRT (due to being the federal polices tactical team) and the SAS (due to their equipment and training). The regular SWAT teams in Germany are called SEK (Spezialeinsatzkommando)

So yes; there is some significant overlap in both units capabilities and training. But there are also important differences. Mainly due to Delta being a military unit and GSG9 being a civilian/police unit. Which for instance grants GSG9 non-combatant status if deployed in foreign countries. Or causes GSG9 to put much more emphasis on taking any perpetrators alive, even if that means a higher risk.

It was silent for hours until suddenly the power was cut, we heard loud bangs and short bursts of gunfire and 40 seconds later the "terrorist" that was guarding us were "gunned" down and we were freed. There was also the North Hollywood shootout in 1997 that brought LAPD SWAT back into the limelight, due to their procurement/commandeering of weaponry capable of defeating improvised heavy body armor capable of stopping low-velocity rounds from shotguns and handguns (what most police were armed with on the scene).

Err, yeah, you're talking about the shootout with two men dressed in heavy armor wielding light machine guns and tons of ammo? The police and SWAT literally looted gun stores nearby, completely smashing windows and "acquiring" the shops firearms. When they finally killed one and immobilized the other for arrest (after both sides shot several thousand rounds, was pretty gnarly) they didn't compensate for the ammo used, property damage, and missing guns (some were returned but they didn't provide any form of compensation) Those stores who got their guns back would display the firearms as being used in the N. Hollywood shootout which sold fast.

The AR-15 platform was preferred over the MP5 because is more flexible (more accessories, range/weight/caliber performance are more balanced), not because "the 9mm has low stopping power". With double tapping and modern ammunition the 9mm is still extremely valid.

Love LAPD SWAT. Those guys are phenomenally trained. Small in number but they’re the only police force that trains with delta force and other special forces

LASD SWAT(SEB) also train with other tiers of special forces and are incredibly well trained, and I do believe they've trained with foreign agencies like Germany's GSG9. I am sure that the LAPD is not the only agency in the US that actively trains with USSOCOM operators. It just happens more often with big departments. Imagine NYPD's counter-terrorism or ESU divisions.

I want to give a massive shout out to the London police specialist firearms unit as I was a civilian drinking nearby the location where the 2017 terrorist ramming/stabbing attack happened in London. I was less then half a mile away about to head home from seeing a band when it occurred and it so incredibly scary. Nice work, I will always appreciate SWAT history. Interestingly enough here's a treat for some of yall in comment section, the reason it got changed to Special Weapons And Tactics was because they were trying to drive home the concept of SWAT being a life saving organization and not a military force. It kind of worked since in media where a SWAT team is the main focus, the phrase "SWAT is a life saving organization, not a life taking one." is almost always used at some point. They all serve under deputation and only temporary, not permanent. There are 2 sub divisions in NSG called SAG (Special Activities Group) and SOG (Special Operations Group).

Mid level officers are from CAPF ( AC and above ) and from the military ( army ), Senior most officers are from the IPS and its boss is always from the IPS. Please don't just associate everything with the army. NSG is a deputation based CAPF meaning it has no permanent cadre or recruitment. Army has nothing to do with NSG. You should know the basic difference between army special forces and Police Special forces. NSG is the GSG-9 OR FBI HRT equivalent in India ( Federal law enforcement special force ) . On the lines of NSG, we have specialized CT police forces in every state like OCTOPUS ( Andhra pradesh police ) Garuda force ( Karnataka police ) Thunderbolts ( Kerala Police ) Force 1 ( mumbai police )

In US you have SWAT. They usually do missions in 5 to 10 man groups. In Poland, we have CBŚP. They always do missions with more than 40 man in one room. Also 4:28 Ready or Not reference.

Althought I do not have a lot of research on the topic, I am pretty sure SWAT does not handle counter terrorism operations, however they might respond to them if they happen to their area just like any other first responder, but I dont think they are sent to take out for example terrorists taking hostages like GIGN would be.

When I was a kid I read "Chief: My Life in the LAPD" by Daryl Gates. It was my dad's book. Good read if you want some insight into police work in the 60s and 70s snd I think a bit of the 80s too. Some great stories in there as well.

A fantastic book of a fantastic Police Chief, ultimately let down by a opportunistic city mayor who refused to authorize an increase in officer numbers to counter the increasing crime of the day. Darryl Gates is unfortunately not well remembered, and the LA city government refuses to defend his memory. Sad to see.

I went to MetroCon this year, one of the days of the con I saw two fully geared SWAT officers with their carbines out but kinda just resting across their torsos, figure for quick access or something. They were nice, I regret not asking if I could have a photo taken with them tho, but I imagine it would've been a firm no due to them needing to be alert or such anyway. That's my one and only experience meeting and speaking to a SWAT member, 9/10 was pretty cool.

When it comes to video games about SWAT, Ready or Not is definitely one of the most realistic games out there, the SWAT is well represented. You get access to a fistful of weapon types, as well as non-lethal weapons and gadgets. You communicate with each other through your microphones and you can see each other's bodycam as well. You decide together on which approach you take and learn how to breach and clear effectively. Either you use C4 or shoot the door hinges to gain entry, while being wary of sneaky door traps. Securing the hostages always comes first, so you need to watch your fire. Thanks to Ready or Not, you can experience being part of the SWAT from the luxury of your computer screen. Great video as always, Simple History! I've learned more because of your videos than at school. P.S., the SAS wasn't named at 0:39, although the SAS is quite well known since the siege of the Iranian embassy in London, 1980.

Actually, S.W.A.T are a consider as a part of heavily armed enforcers to deal such high risk task that normal police can't do... Different countries have different naming, and their task role sometimes differently depending the situations... But still, they have one familiar role: They are Police, but also Paramilitary (in some country). Their role is eliminate any high threat such as terrorist attacks, hostage rescue, brutal shootout or cases. Their armed arsenals are Mil-Grade issues which gain superior firepower or having a decent force against the terrorists or others cases such as a Former Military units turns criminals shooters. Also have high CQC and Urban combat tactics for deal such high intelligence threats. Even so, if there's a case that not even S.W.A.T can handle it,then the last resort is the National Army or Special Force to deal it (US are mostly National Guard). These are T1 CT forces and even they capable to call out the Combat vehicles such as APC, IFV, or even MBT if need. Also they have Armed Helicopter for Aerial Support if need.

LAPD SWAT is the best of the best. They’re so good that other elite SWAT teams like the FBI HRT train with them. Plus a large amount of their encounters usually end with a peaceful resolution thanks to their negotiation skills.

No way, the original 70s SWAT show is far superior. Heck, Adam-12 and just about any 1970s cop show is superior as well. The new SWAT just has a bunch of spray tanned, pinko body builders pretending to "understand the people" whilst reacting to the latest threats to the wonderful, multicultural dystopia of LA. Apparently their biggest crime problem is ⚪ Neo Naz1s with brand new M249 machine guns straight off the production line with plot armor so thick it can only be penetrated by bouncing bullets off manholes and walls into the suspects. Apparently hardcore ⚫ and Hispanic drug dealing gangbangers aren't appropriate for a "SWAT" team to handle. It so plastic and fake.

In our county every patrolman goes to tactical school after their FTO training. When a SWAT calls goes out half of patrol puts on their gear from their trunk and rally on 2 Bearcats by 2 designated drivers and the other half answer calls. A third team is on call from off duty patrol for any second SWAT calls or high risk warrants. Other counties are adopting this approach.

The german SWAT i Split into two teams: the SEK, which is comandeered by the central police unit active in the Region /state of the incident, and the GSG 9 which is commandeered by the federal police and can operate in all states, and even outside the german borders.

I'm sure I'm not the only one to disagree about the 1st swat team. That honour should go to the legendary, my number 1 hero, William Fairbairn. The same gentleman who with Sykes, brought us the commando knife. In the 1930s, while on the Shanghai police force, Fairbairn put together a special force of police. He even made a shooting house like the 22nd SAS and others still use. He thought hand to hand combat and special shooting skills. After Japan overran Shanghai, he went to England to teach commandos hand to hand and knife fighting. From there Camp X in Canada where he thought future spies for SOE. Side note. Ian Flemming met him there. Could there be some Fairbairn in 007? From camp X, he went to work for Wild Bill Donovan to teach OSS agents and hung around into CIA days. Another side note. My at one time dear lady friend Nora's father, Jim Carney, served on the Shanghai police force with the man. Ian at Forgotten Weapons has an upload of the man on his channel. I would highly recommend watching his post on Fairbairn. I can't really do the man the justice he deserves as an innovative policeman and warrior. Also, it'd make my hero worship of the man understandable.

0:49 Russian "spetsnaz" is a broad term. Russian law enforcement has 2 main tactical units - FSB's Alpha Group and Rosgvardia's (Russian national guard gendarmerie) SOBR. Spetsnaz name itself means specops, that can mean any Russian special forces unit, both law enforcement or military.
