I have a 17-9 and I us 1974 polish ammo, at 25m not yards it will put six rounds in under 1inch (off a hand held rest), just love it😀👍👍👍👍👍

It was my first handgun. I shot it and shot it. Actually got pretty good with it. Very accurate guns. Somewhere along the way I let it get away. I’ve always regretted that.

Nice video. I am a S&W .22 fan. I have a 1931 K22 Outdoorsman, , 1948 and 1953 Masterpieces, and a 1975 Model 17-2. That is the 3 basic generations. Never had much interest in the stainless models. To me, they are all works of art.

I just picked my 48-2 today and it was a blast. I have the .22 lr cylinder to go along with it, an older plastic clamshell case to go with it and nothing else original. The grips are square butt and oversized which I love because I put big grips on all my revolvers, unfortunately it also came with it's share of scratches and wear. Much to my surprise, the bluing has held up well after some initial cleaning with oil & steel wool. Thanks for sharing and the history lesson! I read whatever I could to piece together I could about this lesser known piece.

Great video. They are nice pistols. I started having an issue with rounds sticking in the cylinder. No matter how much cleaning, it didn't help. I discovered that the Winchester M22 40 grain 1255 fps black copper coated ammo was sticking while the Federal Champion Value Pack 36 grain 1260 fps fits fine and has no issues. 8:25 Please don't take this the wrong way, but you really encourage me. I watch Paul Harrell and hickok45 shoot targets and I think, man, I have really lost it as far as hitting anything. But then, a regular guy comes up with a target like this at 10 yards, and I'm like, wow, I just did a spread like that at 50. But yes, you did fine and since most things someone will be shooting are closer to 30 feet than 150 feet, this is fine for the first group of the day. And you made an old guy feel good about himself again. I have the Model 17, not a K22, and while they look similar to my Model 10, there is a very noticeable difference of weight once they are in your hand.

Thanks for your kind words. We all have good and bad days at the range. I am ok at 10-20 yards with a pistol but anything beyond that I struggle. As with anything the more you practice the better you can get, just wish I could just walk out my back door and shoot more often. Thanks for watching.

I have a public range about 25 miles away, but it is mainly good for shooting a lot but not really improving. It has long times between cold range to check targets, and unless you have a spotter, you end up with not really knowing what went where. The indoor ranges have gotten expensive, plus you can't shoot rifles, and I think they are keeping far too many records of who is in and what they are shooting. Keep up the good work on the videos.

It's always great to find an old Smith with recessed cylinders. Later on, by the late 50s-early 60s Smith only recessed the cylinders on their Magnum Revolvers.

The old service pistols in 38 special, were also not recessed back in the 40's. when you are trying to meet a price point that was the first thing to go along with the adjustable sights. Thanks for watching.

I have two model 617’s . Both of which have recessed cylinders. Neither has pinned barrels like my K.22s but they all have recessed cylinders

The 8-3/8" version could benefit from a vintage pistols scope mounted to it. They are that accurate.

I have one inherited from my grandfather. 100% original and it looks like it was never shot. Perfect grips and bluing. Came in an original blue box with all tools, even the vapor wrap. How can I determine approximate value for this 1958 production model? I'm interested in selling.

Nice video and gun! I have a 1930’s production K-22 Outdoorsman. I've cleaned it up quite a bit, but the bluing is in pretty rough shape. It functions flawlessly though. Should I refinish it? Would that lower its value?

You are so right about where these would be found. I am 72 and inherited one from my daddy 30 years ago. He served in Europe in WWII. It ticks all the boxes for a K22 from 1948, also. The serial # is 59139. Am I right? Thanks for your help.

...same here...I inherited it from my dad in 1984...just wish I'd kept the original (blue) box & grips (dad had a Tyler T-Grip on it that I tossed in favor of S&W Goncalo Alves target grips)...I recently picked up a set of original grips from a collector...mine seems to be from around the mid 50s - a 5 screw with a pinned barrel

I just bought one today. Mine is 1948 I think. It has a single line "Made in USA" on the right side instead of 4 lines like yours. The serial number is of this format: k 19XXX. Namely a "k" followed by 5 digits, starting with 19. The store had two of them, both with serial numbers in this format (the other was "k 53XXX"), so both late 40s I think, however the other one had four lines on the right of the frame instead of 1. The other was in slightly better condition, but the one I bought was $175 cheaper, so I snapped it up (the store owner bought it the day the before while the other had been on consignment for at least a couple of weeks). I didn't check the inside of the grips but the cylinder had matching serial numbers (without the "k" though) on both guns.

Wool steel to clean the old gunk from its insides...? That should be forbidden, it takes steel from gun. Just soaked for 10 minutes with Hopes-9, cleaned, and the job was done. Great revolver, by the way.

No steel wool to clean the insides, just solvent and a rag. The steel wool and oil was to remove the surface rust off the blueing. It had been decades since the last time this was cleaned and oiled. Thanks for watching.

These command high dollar here in the states. seams everyone's grandfather had one of these and sold it long ago or it went to an older brother or cousin. @@45AlfaCharliePapa In germany we can give those guns only to family members if they have a permit, if this isnt the case we (our family) have to sell them or turn em in to the police if we die and they destroy them :'( so most people wanna get rid off them as long as they are alive and so they land on the used market quiet often. In addition the possession of handguns is limited to 2 per competition shooter, 10 per hunter (dont ask me why, its still a stupid difference) or endless as collector but only in the field you are collecting (for example S&W and Colt Handguns until 1980) you can get more under some circumstances but i have never seen a competition shooter with more than 8. Thanks for the Video, there are not so many in german, and if i wanna inform myself a bit i am thankful for your work.
