Anyone who claims you should not have a light on a gun is clueless. I only have two hands and prefer to keep both of them firmly on the gun, not fumbling with a flashlight. I have the 4.6" barreled version of the S&W M&P M2.0 10MM. I just received my Holosun 507c today. My C&H mounting plate is actually going to show up tomorrow. I'd rather mount this optic one time, even if it costs me a little extra up front. I don't want to deal with any potential issues using the plastic plates. I HAD an MP 10mm 4.6. I could not get through a magazine of any ammo without feeding problems. Rounds were constantly getting stuck when chambering. I tried numerous types of ammo. Even worse, Underwood 200gr would cause the magazine to fall out every shot. I called S&W. They refused to acknowledge that these are common problems and would not comment as to wether they can be fixed. The customer service rep. Was unbelievably rude, cutting me off, talking over and even shouting at me. This began during the initial conversation during which I was nothing but polite. All I was told was to send the gun in and that any kind of refund was not possible. The turnaround time for a S&W gunsmith to inspect it was 6 weeks. I bought this POS for bear protection during bow season and a 6 week turn around was not acceptable. I ended up trading the gun in on a G20 and lost $300 doing so. The only good news is the Glock functions flawlessly with any kind of ammo. Not sure how one would think the plastic plate had anything to do with the screw shearing off. I think the screw sheared off which left the plastic plate being the only thing holding the 507 on the slide. Thus breaking the plastic plate. Not the plates fault either. My M&P 10mm has a plastic plate on it and has held up to full power rounds(180g @ 1300fps) no problem. Over 700rds now. I did use the screws that came with the gun, though. Not the screws that came with the 507.
@michaeldvorak5556 Жыл бұрын
I would think the plastic plate does the job of alignment while mounting. The screws take the lateral force. The screws that came with the gun are probably a higher tensile strength.

Mine worked fine with weak 10mm loads but not full power loads (600+ Ft pounds of muzzle energy). To make mine work properly with full power loads I had to do a recoil spring and mag spring upgrade. If you run an optic you need to add a metal plate and upgraded hardware. With full power 10mm I’ve had failure to feed issues, and the mag was ejecting by itself. It’s been a common issue with these guns. Some people got good ones but most of them have issues and it’s very well documented. The only ones who deny and defend this are the fanboys who can’t be honest about their favorite brand. I also see a lot of people have had issues with the stock plastic red dot plates and stock hardware. Smith and Wesson knocked it out of the park in terms of ergonomics, it’s such a shame that the reliability in stock from doesn’t match when you aren’t using watered down 10mm. I love smith and own 4 soon to be 5 of their products, but they dropped a turd with this gun. Funny how some people still refer to the .40 S&W as "short and weak" when so many people complain about the 40's recoil and pressure.
@cherrycitygunsandammo10112 жыл бұрын
It’s mainly as a comparison to the 10mm. Just because they’re both 40 cal but the 40 S&W is literally a shortened down graded 10mm since the 10mm was the original cartridge that was then modified down to become the 40 S&W. So yeah, between the 2, 40 S&W is the shorter weaker cartridge.
@georgegravette11322 жыл бұрын
What's really funny is that it's often the SAME people complaining about both--that the 40 is weak AND the recoil is too "snappy." 10mm fans can get away with that, saying the recoil is too strong for a weak round; if you're going to have recoil, then you might as well go with the 10mm. But it's usually 9mm fans making the argument, that 9mm has less recoil and that the round is at least equal ballistically to the 40. I happen to be a fan of both, and wouldn't care to make and argument for one over the other.

@@georgegravette1132 for me .40 seems pointless. If you want more than a 9mm, why not jump straight to the 10mm. It’s like upgrading from .308 to 30-06. If you need more than .308 and you like .30 cal, why not jump up to .300 Win.

My old Gen3 Glock 20SF was a veritable jam-o-matic with 10mm Auto heavy full-power FN HCL 200 Gr and 220 Gr bear-defense hunting loads from Buffalo Bore, DoubleTap, and Underwood, as well as with Underwood Ammo 10mm Auto 165 Gr and 180 Gr SGD Bonded JHP self-defense loads... on the order of a 30% FTF / FTE rate. Plus every single full-power fired cartridge case was ruined by the notorious Glock Smiley-Face bulge, so not reloadable, thanks to the Glock's unsupported barrel chamber. I'm lucky I never had a kaboom with that gun. On the other hand, my S&W M&P 10mm M2.0 4.6" pistol has been 99.957% reliable, with only 1 malfunction of any kind whatsoever through 2,301 10mm Auto rounds fired. That one and only malfunction was a FTF, while I was shooting Underwood Ammo 10mm Auto 200 Gr FN HCL bear-defense hunting rounds, during my very first shooting session, in mid May 2022, with the pistol in its original stick factory configuration. Since changing out the weak OEM stock 17# RSA and soft magazine springs for a 24# RSA and longer stronger 11-coil magazine springs, in late May 2022 (cost < $50), it's been 100% perfectly reliable through 2,100 10mm Auto rounds fired. No malfunctions of any kind whatsoever, including never any uncommanded magazine drops. That's including having fired 360 full-power 10mm Auto 200 Gr ~ 220 Gr FN HCL rounds through it. My S&W M&P 10mm M2.0 4.6" pistol is a much better, far more reliable firearm than my Gen3 Glock 20SF was.

The Holosun on the S&W polymer plate is probably about the worst scenario on the 10mm. The Holosun is on the heavy side for an MRDS, and only uses two locating posts (like the RMR). I think a lighter weight, 4-post sight would be a safer bet on a polymer plate. That said, the machined metal plate is probably a better solution with the heavier sight. Oh, and another review featured slow motion footage of the M&P 10. The gun does have a lot of muzzle flip, so I think the sight mounting screws are actually experiencing quite a bit of tension forces, not just shearing, during recoil.

@@ShastaBean I personally like the grip safety after I got use to. I backpack and bow hunt in Colo and with all the blow downs, etc a little extra safety gives me comfort. The gripsaftey is easily by passed if that's what you want

So... It's the red dot that failed ... And NOT the firearm
@cherrycitygunsandammo1011 Жыл бұрын
Nope. The red dot is good. The cheap plate that came with the gun failed.

1:35 15 ft lbs might be why it broke?

Doubt it. Cheap plastic plates.

@@cherrycitygunsandammo1011 I never seen a optic or a gun call for foot lbs of torque, it's always inch pounds including Holosun. 15 foot lbs would be the cause of some failures.

It was 15 inch pounds. I misspoke. My torque wrench doesn’t even go to foot pounds.
@denniscooke68492 жыл бұрын
That’s not a gun issue, it’s poor instillation of the optic!

Lock tite and 15 inch pounds with a torque wrench. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

I'm not sure Smith and Wesson even test-fires their guns these days. I'm guessing their rifles and pistols come out of different manufacturing facilities, but my M&P 10 (AR 10 style rifle) failed to cycle right out of the box. After screwing around with different springs and buffers, I discovered the gas tube wasn't even pinned to the block. Not that it broke--there just wasn't a pin there to begin with. And whenever I see these S&W "fails" videos, they all look like things that could have been caught at the factory if someone had just put a few rounds through the gun. But then that would require ammo, and someone to clean/lubricate the gun afterwards, driving up costs.
@cherrycitygunsandammo10112 жыл бұрын
I think you’re right. So many guns I’ve bought in the past have included usually 2 brass from cartridges that had been fired from the gun and now that you bring it up, this gun did not come with that.

My M&P-10 also had failures. I sent it to S&W and it came back cycling 100% so far. I'm not sure what they did - they didn't state the fix. I saw some mention the gas-tube port being too small, but I wasn't about to get to drilling it on my own. My M&P 10mm has had some FTFs, like many others have shown. Still waiting and hoping to have them release the 100% fix; either mags (springs), or recoil-springs, or polishing or whatever it might be. Agree it's frustrating.

I won't give you flak for having a flashlight on your gun...but I will give you grief for having an Olight. Just too unreliable to have on a gun for self defense in my honest opinion. TLR-1 HL isn't that much more expensive, but is much better quality.
