I just bought a brand new S&W 442 & the cylinder looks like somebody chunked it across a parking lot & painted it black afterwards. It came straight from the factory like that. I sent it back. Their old stuff was literally masterful works of art. They are just cranking stuff out on a cnc assembly line now to make maximum profit.

Please let your viewers know know how S&W handled your return. 3 questions: 1. Did you get the flawless gun you paid for? 2. Did you suffer any money lost for shipping it back? 3. What was the turnaround time? What did Lipsey’s have to say, and was S&W courteous?

Thank you for making this video! I've got a new 351C that I purchased for my wife as a lightweight carry. It's been fired twice, and returned for repair twice. The bloody thing won't eject the spent casings. I'm going to test fire it again in the next few days, but I think it'll be going back for a third time. I wish S&W would get it right; it's a gun that my wife would actually carry. Thank you for letting me know that it's a true problem with S&W and that I didn't just get a lemon. You're video helps me justify a change in my gun purchases going forward. It such a shame too. I love S&W J-Frames, and I'd love to have a pair of 432-UCs.

If you're going to buy a current production S&W, I'd recommend inspecting before you buy. They'd be great little revolvers if S&W was not having QC issues. I'd keep sending the 351c back to S&W until they get it right! I have a 432-UC at S&W on its second trip. Good luck!

I have 2x 43c which is the 8 shot 22 lr version of the 351c.. both have gone back for impossible to hand eject cases. The aluminum cylinders chew thru the machining tool, and if its slightly worn they get under bored, and so it needs to he properly reamed. Mine came back 1 trip and work amazingly, they also cut the forcing cone and one one repaired my bolt and some other parts. Both run like sewing machined now and have eaten thousands of rounds and shoot tacks shockingly for how tiny and light they are. I love them, but it sucks we have to go thru sendiing it back. Sometime multiple times to get it working how it should from favtory out of the box

New sub, thank you for this video!!! For the price they are charging this not not acceptable!!! About 6 months ago I purchased the 6-shot Kimber K6xs. Only has about 130 rounds through it, 90% of which were standard pressure 38 special, only 10% +P's. Was dry firing practicing at home with snap caps, went to eject the snap caps and the whole cylinder let loose and slid down the ejector rod, if not for the grip it would have come completely off. Sent it back to Kimber and they called and said there was a crack in the frame and they will replace it. Quality control I believe for most manufacturers is pretty poor nowadays.
@HollyrockFarm
@HollyrockFarm 6 ай бұрын
That is terrible! I hope Kimber took good care of you. I bought my wife a Kimber K6XS for Christmas in 2023. So far, her gun has run great. I've got positive comments from people they said they got good S&W UC revolvers. If my first was bad I can chalk that up to an oops. I've now got 3 that are not working right. To me, that says they have a problem. That chances I buy three guns from different stores or GB on the internet and they're all unsatisfactory...seems pretty small unless they have a QC problem. Thanks for the sub! My wife is an OB/GYN, we have a little farm, and I was mil/le and like guns. I figure we can share our stuff and try and grow God's kingdom through our experiences. I don't want to compete with Warrior Poet Society...rather supplement. There are a lot of snake oil salesmen...I want to spread truth.

If you're going to get one, make sure you can inspect it first. I bought 4 off the internet (shipped to an FFL and 4473 done) and all of them had issues. I sent them back to S&W and ended up selling 3 of the 4 after the buyer had the opportunity to inspect them. I sent my remaining gun to Nelson Ford, a gunsmith in Phoenix, AZ. He tuned it up and so far, I'm loving the little gun! Nelson adds about $300 to the cost of the gun. At least when he is done with it, it is right and butter smooth!

At this point, with any brand, QC is slipping. It’s better or worse by brand, but it is getting worse across the board. Unless you can hold it and check it out in person, you are taking a risk. It’s a gamble to order online and hope for the best. It’s a sad state of affairs, but that is where we are. I picked up a 442 UC and it’s wonderful. I looked it over in the store beforehand.

My Taurus 856 Executive Grade was an absolute joy to look at and shoot. The fit, finish, and function were considerably better than the last two S&W Model 642s I bought at about the same time. Given the price of a new S&W revolver, it makes more sense to find a good, pre-internal lock S&W: better finish, better aesthetics generally, fewer unwanted features, better quality control, and a greater likelihood of holding its value. I recenty purchased a model 13, in excellent condition, for no more than what S&W would now charge for any of its K-frames.

I wouldn't have much of an argument against that logic. I've been hunting a 632 Pro Stainless with a 2.25" barrel. The last ones I saw on GB were a consecutive serial number set at over $5,000...I want a carry gun not a safe queen. I had to pass on it. I beat my MP340 up pretty good. It earned its scars from years of carry. I'd feel bad beating up a classic in good condition. They just don't make them like they used to...

Had my one 43c come with a missing s&w logo / trademark on the side 😮 if they are missing something that obvious, it is a bad sign. Right above it, the cylinder release, and screw are also not black nitrided/annodized like rest of the gun. 2 very visually obvious misses in their manufacturing. I think they rush out the popular models, the 43c never sits on any shelf at any of my LGS for more then a week before being sold out. They are rushing them out as fast as they can put them together. Qc is missing too many lemons

I just picked mine up, and it had the same scratches on the front cylinder face. It doesn’t bother me too much (not enough to send it back), which of course is what they count on. Otherwise, it functions well with no other cosmetic damage. If it were the stainless finish, the scratches wouldn’t be visible. But yeah, very disappointing that their quality standards have dropped so low. On the plus side - mine was $688 total (no tax or shipping charges [New Hampshire] and that price included the background check. Maybe they’re pricing them now to reflect what you actually end up with - scratches, dings and all.

After watching a lot of these videos with the QC issues coming out of S&W i feel extremely lucky to have gotten two solid pistols. When shooting a S&W side bye side to a Colt theres no comparison these will be the last S&W revolvers i own, unless they come out with an UC in .22mag / .22lr.

I've been buying Rugers for a while because they've been reliable and cheaper but they are no longer cheaper. Charter arms offers a very similar product, still made in the USA that can be had for close to half the money in the same caliber. I've been considering a "Professional" 7 shot charter arms. I would definitely buy one of those if Smith can't make a product worthy of the asking price.

The new production guns are just not built as well as the older ones based on my experiences. My experience with S&W in 2024 is much worse than my prior experiences in 2020, 2011, and 2005. I had nothing but great experiences with their guns until these 5 revolvers I bought in 2024. They used up all the good will credit they had built up and are now in the red. Inspect thoroughly to your satisfaction…I caution against buying online (like I did). I could have refused and paid more shipping costs and “restocking” fees. I counted on S&W making them right. I've been a Glock fan since 2004. Trouble is, for me, she (Glock) demands loyalty. I can handle her grip angle. If I can handle her grip angle, I cannot handle the grip angle of any other... I retired from my PD and stopped carrying Glock. I either have to be 100% Glock or 0% Glock. If I don't, when I present my pistol to the target, my front sight (or red dot) is either pointed at airplanes or earth worms... Glocks are awesome. My CZ P-10C is awesome. There is a world beyond Glock. If you're happy with Glock, just stay there and be happy...nothing wrong with that!

I refused the gun & my dealer sent it back to S&W. Oh, & I waited for the CZ purchase of Colt & bought a Python & wow, I actually like it better than my 68 Python & Trooper. S&W performance center quality is nowhere near what it used to be. They are leaving sharp edges and burrs, and not spending any time fitting and finishing the firearms. I bought a 5'' M&P CORE Performance Center and it came to me with plastic burrs around the trigger stop screw (Really couldnt take the 1 second to knock them off with a file like i had to?), and the barrel came to me "brand new" with a GROOVE so deep into it that it would catch my fingernail on it. When took a further look at the slide the lockup areas of the barrel hood and the very front of the barrel were still VERY sharp and seemed to be what was causing the grooves in the front of the barrel and the rough edge of the top of the barrel hood. I ended up sanding them down a little bit myself and they aren't near as sharp but still not perfect need to be filed a bit but I am not going to go that far before i send it in. I was originally going to send it into them, but read online a few other guys having the same exact thing with the barrel and lock up points being sharp and unfinished, and S&W called them "cosmetic marks". One guy sent in his gun and they polished the area where the groove on the barrel was and sent it back to him. Just a total lack of give a shit. Which is a shame because their guns are some of my favorite.

So far, they've not given me any problems with completing repairs I've demanded. They replaced my barrel shroud on my first 432-UC due to a blemish from them installing a pin and leaving a burr. It stinks to watch and iconic American brand doing poorly...especially at the product their iconic for, their revolvers! Nothing should leave the Performance Center without being flawless...alas, it is probably just another assembly line with mostly assemblers and only a few actual craftsman... I think they're stuck between trying to make a revolver affordable and trying to make them well. I'm sure they were not immune from inflation, the great resignation, and general labor shortages. I've got comments from people that are put off by the price. At the same time, there are people put off by the quality. Then, there are people put off by both. S&W is more expensive than Ruger, Charter Arms, and Taurus...but they're not meeting the quality I've seen from Ruger and Taurus. Admittedly, my experience with Ruger and Taurus is back from the mid-2000s. Aside from the stolen Bulldog Special I recovered after a theft, I've never handled a Charter Arms. I want the classic lines and feature sets on these little S&W revolvers...I demand they work. I intend on carrying one, the wife carrying one, and giving one to each of my kids. Once they get "right" from the factory, I'm going to have a company/gunsmith do action jobs on them and get them slicked up. I might be spoiled and be spoiling the family... @@federicomartinez9459. A word of caution about the LCR in 327: sights are challenging. The front sight has to be shorter than the 38/357 or it will shoot low. I’ve yet to find a night sight for the LCR in 327. The S&W UC has the features but is just not of the build quality for the price. It is a big let down.

Oddly enough the older used J frames are far better and way cheaper, dab of orange paint on the front sight and five rounds of 38 special. Don't get sucked into the myth these are more reliable and effective. If you don't master a snub they are NOT effective. And stop buying cheap brands too. All the Charter Arms, Taurus in rental pools end up broken in a box. Two guns break most in rental pools, 1911s and revolvers.

I don’t have much of an argument against that…just that I’d feel bad altering a nice older gun. It is not like S&W is going to go back to quality hand fitting and that bluing they used to offer…

The real SAD reality is they get away with it becauss a big % of their buyers pick one up and never fire it or even closely inspect it. I believe the j frames are going to get a dash update. I have two 43cs and both have gone back, both had forcing cone cut. Id bet the 43c-1 comes from factory with a larger cut to the forcing cone then they are currently doing. They will make it right anf take care of you, but it sucks to even have to deal with customer service, and be without it for 1 to 2 months while it gets fixed up. Some people it may be their only gun or first. Even if it comes back perfect, a 1 or 2 month wait on a new gun to be made right is a bit of a slap in the face after the price paid for what should be a premium revolver out of the box. S&w needs to do better with qc. Their name and reputation is rightfully getting tarnished if they continue allowing so many lemons out. They can and will make it right, id bet on that. Wish they all came out as good as I know they are capable of making absolute gems!

If I needed any of the revolvers I bought his year, I'd be full on fired up. I have plenty of ways of throwing rocks...sending them back for repair is an inconvenience. That said, most people are not going to tolerate having to send brand new guns back to the manufacturer. @@HollyrockFarm Every gun manufacturer has issues, unfortunately it happens to all of us who collect at some point, & unfortunately its happened to your S&W's a few times. I just also had my Faxon ar15 barrel RMA'd and they sent out a new barrel immediately right away, & I just installed & broke in the new barrel this weekend. I had only maybe 2k-3k rounds and it started to keyhole. I encourage all gun owners to have a backup for these exact reasons of issues that may arise, Unfortunately I don't have a backup rifle, I wasn't without, just I didn't have my faith in the barrel after it opened up after a few thousand rounds through it. Faxon says they're good for 30,000 to 40,000 rounds so after 3k I was a little upset.

@@HollyrockFarm Yeah the 340 is easily, if not the, best SW Jframe for EDC, alongside the 340PD, but personally I like the MP more, although they are practically identical less a slight weight increase in the MP and the strange colored cylinder on the PD. I found the MP to be better for me and the extra weight was almost unnoticable, and I don't have to be so careful about what grain I put in it like you do with the PD. Either way, in my mind the 340 PD and MP are the ULTIMATE SW Jframe carry models!
