Here is Sammy singing with Ella Fitzgerald on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, supposedly it is the first time they ever sang together.

Ella stating that Sammy Davis Jr. was "T-A-L-E-N-T" at the beginning of this video really says something about how incredible Sammy truly was.

When Sammy added that "Yeeeeeeeeeessss!!!" at the end of the tune, the audience applause had swelled to a higher degree of satisfactory approval! 👏👏👏👌👍 FYI: That wonderful ending was a big surprise out of the blue for the audience and people at home watching, & Sammy had never rehearsed that part of the tune! There you have it! DY-NO-MIIIIIIITE!!!

I remember this episode of Ed's when I was 15 years old and I fell in love with both Ella and Sammy. I've seen them both live, Sammy on Broadway and Ella at Dangerfield's in NYC. I miss this kind of talent. These kids today can't touch this. Rap is all they know and everybody sounds the same.

This aired Feb. 2, 1964--a week before The Beatles' first Sullivan appearance. But I consider this one of the finest and most signifiant moments in the show's 23-year run.

This cut Sammys verse before they started scatting though. He was so excited when he got the idea that they’d both scat 8 bars each.
