The drive down to Llandudno was great fun. It was just too busy to get even close to the beaches, so we decided to take a drive to the other side and closer to Sandy Bay. We couldn’t get to it because it is quite a hike from the parking area. On our way out we did find a beautiful spot where we could see the main beach. Then it was off to Hout Bay. Our first port-of-call was the fantastic harbour where we had delicious seafood. With our tummies filled, we tried to get closer to the castles we saw from afar, but unfortunately we couldn’t find the road. The beach was peaceful with many seagulls flying around. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel # houtbay # llandudno #sandybay #capetown #westerncape #carnival#tablemountain

The drive down to Llandudno's beaches was fantastic. Some of those properties built on and into the rock, are absolutely breathtakingly beautiful! There were so many sightseeing buses around over this festive season, which bears testimony to how many tourists descended on Cape Town again after being absent for two years. They were starving for the absolute beauty of the Cape Peninsula and one can't blame them either! 🤩🚌 Nothing wrong with being babalas once in a while, I've been there a time or two myself. Fun in the moment, but the next morning not so much! 😨 I had to chuckle at your description of your granny sitting in a sidecar on her way to church! You certainly have a way with words. 🤣👒 Thank you for exploring Hout Bay with us today, it was great fun! 😁🚗

Hi you two! Thank you for this outing. Not only is the harbour really great to see but also the roadside trees and greenery and the African artworks exhibition. Your lunch really had my tummy growling. Strangely (?) enough I found the weather fitting in so nicely, stressing the size of the surrounding mountains. I'm very much looking forward to our next trip' Keep safe!

The artwork at the turnoff to Llandudno was absolutely amazing to see once again! The rows and rows of carvings and statues blew my mind! The intricacy of some of those items is really astonishing and it must take hours upon hours to make some of those stunning items! Glad you enjoyed them too! Our dinner was delicious and the setting made it even more so! 🤩⛵ I agree with you about the weather. When we started out that morning, it was bright and sunny and it gradually became more overcast as it got later. Late afternoon the mountains around Hout Bay were covered in wispy clouds and it added to the atmosphere with the harbour in the foreground. An awesome sight! We really enjoyed our time in Hout Bay that day and it was fantastic that you joined us! 😁🚗

OMG...now does this bring wonderful memories!!! I rented this cool place high on the hill above Camps Bay. 3 Americans and my friend from Springs. Went to Llandudno, walked a 20 minute walk down a path to Sandy Bay. No Curtis, no cameras. Saw some very interesting sights like a nude volleyball game. It was a HOOT. Actually, went there twice...with my friend From Memphis, stopped on my way to Mossel Bai and my friend from Springs. Man oh man, did I have some stories about Sandy Bay....when I got home to Memphis (Lisa Marie RIP). Also a stunning beach but the Atlantic was FRIGID. I hope to return again!!!!

Wow, we really enjoyed this video of Hout Baai (not "howt", as you correctly pointed out)! It was amazing to see how one bloke fed seals with his mouth! The close encounters with seagulls was also very impressive! If it won't make us a target for crime, I'd take along my Nikon camera gear to get some close up shots of the seagulls in flight.

Llandudno is so beautiful. Yes it is a bit of a hike to Sandy Bay but well worth it if you can. Its a truly beautiful beach, no, not because of human nudity but the nature. Its only a sort of corner of the beach that is nudist. You cant see it from the road. There are only a few really perfect bodies out, its mostly older people who just want to experience the freedom of no clothes. It is beach full of huge rocks, so here is always a handy rock to hide behind for privacy. At one stage it became really dangerous, as being rather secluded, muggers were lying in wait for unsuspecting people. Suikerbossie Restaurant was a Christmas dinner tradition in my family. The in-laws would treat us to a very merry experience. But that was BC. (before children) Love the African art ,maar ek het n regte gly in daai maskers! Gee my die koue rellings!!!🥶😱We enjoyed quite a few delicious dinners at Mariners Warf. Great that you enjoyed your calamari. Nothing worse than getting an old boot leather, as I have experienced, but not there. Hout Bay beach was my favourite beach, again...many a happy hour!

The whole Sandy Bay nudist thing was really only tongue-in-cheek. We're always only after the natural beauty of these places and it looked absolutely awesome down there. 🌊 I wasn't keen to leave Sonia alone in the car though, so had to take a peek from afar! I've eaten some of the best roast potatoes in my life at Suikerbossie Restaurant! It's one of the few places that I go back for more potatoes than meat! 🥔 We've never had Christmas lunch or dinner there before though, that must be a treat-and-a-half! I thought the African artwork was awesome. The masks didn't bother me as much as you! They're so artistic those folks and it was great to see tourists supporting them! 🤩🚗 Glad that Hout Bay took you down happy memory lane today!

The whole point of naturism is to get rid of unnecessary apparel and become one with the environment. At a nudist colony nobody judges you for your body because nobody looks at you. I remember walking that trail to Sandy Bay, with my wife, so fondly during the 1970s and early 1980s. Once you get rid of the clothes, it feels like you are flying like a bird in the sky. FREE!

Nice. I live across the mountain and go to church in HB. Always enjoy the drive across the Nek. By the way, Suikerbossie actually starts at the circle at the bottom near the harbour. From there, it is a steady climb all the way to the top with not much relieve. Have cycled it many times. Only once in the Argus though. Lookout looks new to me. I think it may be a place that has had a name change.

This is just for fun: Capetonians find it hilarious. The British occupiers of the Cape of Good Hope during the 1800s tried to rename many suburbs without losing the essence of the names. In reality it was a miserable failure. They tried to rename Vishoek and it became Fish Hoek. Not Fish Corner? They renamed Kampsbaai to Camps Bay, not realising that the bay was named after its founder called Van der Kamp. There is no "Wineberg" in Cape Town, only Wynberg, no matter how much anybody whines about it.🤦‍♂
@DustBugsTravel

I hear you loud and clear and Sonia's father is smiling wide again! She being Afrikaans, I knew all the Afrikaans names, but haven't thought about it until now. A mystery indeed why Vishoek never became Fish Corner and only the 🐟 part was translated. Very interesting and humorous food for thought, thank you! 🚙🌊

This episode's showcasing of Llandudno really highlighted it's splendor, I haven't been there in donkey's years...when you reached the bottom point and the "burnt orange" or "dustbugs classic" Kwid came into view, I was about to say "hey there's the dustbugs" ...but then I remembered that we were with you 🤣...Suikerbossie a hill to test one's endurance and stamina.. Your meals looked great, I am of the opinion that our City should do more to invest in the Hout Bay Harbour. Seals as the beachgoers found out the other day are not cute and cuddly, that chap might lose more than his face. "Naai obie die rob het my neus gerob" Your seafood looked great. We often go to Orcas in Gordon's Bay, that tiny place knows how to make great fish n chips. The shots of the mountains in your closing scene are mesmerizing. Can we dedicate this episode to Sonia's Dad, I loved that story...trots

Like you, we haven't been in Llandudno for many years, but it remains a spectacular setting and we thoroughly enjoyed the drive to its beaches, although we didn't get close to either! 🤩🌊 Whenever we again see an orange Suzuki S-Presso, we look at each other and say there's our understudy from Richmond! 🤣 The thing is that they're so common now that we've got hundreds of understudies everywhere! Our food was fantastic, all the more so because of the setting. ⛵ The shots of Lion's Head and The Twelve Apostles on our way home were special because of the wispy clouds covering them, the weather had made a complete 180 since that morning and the entire mood of the area had changed. Not into a sombre one at all, but into a majestic one, reminding us that the forces of nature are and will always be in charge. ⛰️☁️ Thank you for your closing remark about my father-in-law. He was a one-of-a-kind human being and he gave me the most precious gift of my life. I am completely happy dedicating this episode to him. His smile is lighting up heaven this evening. 😇

I've done a bit of research and I believe the statue is called 'The Bronze Leopard of Hout Bay'. It was placed on that rock on 14 March 1963 and is 'a memorial dedicated to all the wild animals that once called the area home and freely roamed the mountains of the peninsula. According to the Hout Bay Museum, the last leopard spotted in Hout Bay was seen on Little Lion's Head in 1937.' This according to secretcapetown.co.za/the-bronze-leopard-of-hout-bay/. So sad. 😥🐆 Hout Bay is an interesting place and it was good to visit, thank you for joining us. 🚗⛵

Awesome tour of in my opinion one of the most beautiful parts of the world. Hout Bay is gorgeous. We had a family reunion there 9 years ago. My sister from the UK me from Australia (was an Expat in Zambia at the time) and my boet from Zim. We stayed at a place about 600m from Mariners Wharf. Had many meals at the Wharf. Reasonably priced for us overseas but probably not for the locals. I was looking in an antique shop in Hout Bay and saw a small Metal Gslvanised Milk Urn. I picked it up and to my astonishment saw it came from Marandellas in Rhodesia. There was a farm name stamped on it and Marandellas stamped under it. That was my home town snd birth place. So without hesitation I bought it. It was a pain in the bum to carry it but it now sits in my Lounge room here in Perth Australia 🇦🇺
