S10 Blazer Remote Oil Filter Delete
Oil Filter Adapter - 14081300 - amzn.to/2EV2PxL
Oil Filter - PF47E - amzn.to/2WqOcgk

In this Video I remove the Remote Oil Filter and Oil Cooler lines from my 2000 Chevy S10 Blazer ZR2 4wd. This process removes the engine oil filter from under the radiator to mounting a smaller 2wd model filter onto the 4.3 Liter V6 Engine Block. The Oil Filter and Oil Filter Adapter part numbers are listed above for reference. If you are in need of an oil change then this is a great time to do this procedure as you are already replacing the oil filter.
The Oil Filter will be mounted to the engine block just above the front 4x4 differential. To get the oil filter in place you cannot pre-fill the filter as you have to and bring it over the differential then mount it in place. the filter cannot fit straight up between the diff and oil pan.
There are a few reasons you may want to do this remote oil filter delete and the first would be if your oil cooler lines are leaking and about to go as when these lines fail you will loose all oil and run you engine dry that could cause the engine to seize up. Deleteing the oil cooler and remote oil filter prevents any issues with these cooler lines.
I like to make my vehicles as simple as possible with the least amount of parts that could fail and cause damage.
The Chevrolet ZR2 is the off-road designed model that come lifted with a wider track width from the factory to improve off road capability. This ZR2 Blazer came stock with 31" tall tires, 3.73 Gears, and a Locking 8.5 Rear Axle.

I just did this to my 95 2Door 4by4. It was a serious pain in the arse getting the tubes out. I had to use a tube cutter because mine would not slip out the front. Part # 14081300 and Wix filter #51040 fit fine. I did get the oil filter removal tool in 3/8th drive to tighten it cause of limited room for a hand. Worked great. Thank You.

Wished you would have shown what it looked like done. I have an Astro van 4.3 I’m putting in my blazer and filter is already on block and I wonder if it ends up being in same place.

Notice improved engine performance? Thinking about doing this to my ‘04 S10 4x4 crew.

I never understood the concept of putting oil into a cooler in the radiator that's surrounded by 195 degree water as a means of " cooling " the oil. Why not an external cooler ?

I have a 04 s10 crew cab do I need to put a 2x4 under the oil pan and jack up the truck to raise up the motor for clearance? What size extension do I need to reach the bolts to the engine block? Do I need to plug the radiator holes once I remove both oil cooler lines to the radiator when it's done draining?
@NECARLOG
@NECARLOG 5 жыл бұрын
No jack is needed the engine does not need to move. I would have a decent length extension or a few to put together. My cooler lines are open doesn't really matter much but blocking the holes is never a bad idea.

Just change the oil lines every 75,000 miles. They will easily last that long.

Do you just hand torque the adapter in? I didn't see anything to put a socket on? My factory Lines are spraying oil out.
@NECARLOG
@NECARLOG 2 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly the inside is an Allen slot so you can use a regular Allen wrench or one that adapts to a socket

Doesn't look like this will work on a 99 gmc sonoma. Adapter is different threads, guess I'm just buying new lines.

No issue, it's been great. Also did the same thing to my S10 ZR2 that replaced my Sonoma so I never ended up trying this on a non ZR2. I will have to make an update video sometime.

I have not because the truck will soon be going to the scrap yard but I did do it to the S10 ZR2 pickup that is replacing it. Did not have time to record it. I do not see any issues with a standard S10 or Sonoma I believe the space between the diff and engine are the same

On a non zr2 blazer or s10 you need to cut / grind off part of the front diff to get the filter in. The non zr2 models are tighter clearance .

Just removed all the oil cooler lines on my 97 4x4 Blazer today so I could have the filter on the block which was lots of fun! Now in order to change the filter I have to jack up the vehicle, take the driver side front wheel off then jack the left side of the motor just to gain enough clearance to drop the filter in from the side. Then I have to climb under to actually put the filter on the adapter nipple with an oil filter end cap wrench. Talk about a huge pain in the ass...be glad you have a Zr2! Think i may end up going back to the lines down the road.

For me it's about removing weak links and making sure it is reliable the rubber lines are known to randomly fail as they get older and loosing all oil pressure while driving on the highway will cause damage. Plus I do not see any cooling benefit for my application.
@waynebishop2110

You do realize there is just a open holes in the block and now you have no filter bypass valve? The bypass valve is part of the remote filter housing on GM there is no bypass in the filter as in 90% of other manufactures use.
@NECARLOG
@NECARLOG 4 жыл бұрын
I have not cut open the 2wd oil filter so I am not sure if that is true but if gm sold 2wd models with that filter mounted direct to the block like I have it then I do not believe there will be an issue. I also run full synthetic changed every 5k miles or once a year so if my filter gets clogged I have bigger issues to worry about.
