Instead of using the flywheel adapter you could just get the 4L80 flywheel for the 6.0. it works just like factory

Did you have to notch your frame to make this possible?
@interestinglyso44044 ай бұрын
Most s10 builds they push the tranny tunnel in. With a hammer or cut . Which allows you access to tranny bolts ? Can you access tranny bolts while engine is connected or do you pull engine to disconnect tranny ? Gauges ? Ecu ? Hydraboost brake boosters are skinner but same length ? What can we do about a/c ? Can’t wait for next video !
@FirstorLastGarage3 ай бұрын
Well I never had to remove the trans without the engine because it wasn’t in there that long lol, I’ve since put the whole combo in my new project so can’t really answer that one. I used a terminator x ecu, manual brake booster, and didn’t run any AC or heat.

What oil pan are you using? I have a knockoff muscle car oil plan for my swap. Have not set the motor in the truck yet. Did not notch my crossmember. Hope everything fits ok.
@FirstorLastGarage9 ай бұрын
I used the Holley 302-1 oil pan. It’s tight but you don’t have to notch the crossmember if you don’t want to. I didn’t.
@kylechampine5542 Жыл бұрын
Any cutting of the cross member with that Holley pan? Or I should ask how the clearance is between the pan and the cross member.
@FirstorLastGarage Жыл бұрын
No I didn’t have to cut the crossmember using the Holley ls swap mounts, their 302-1 oil pan and their transmission crossmember. Have about a 1/4 inch clearance. It would be easier to pull the engine in and out if it was notched though.

Awesome work brother great video . The raceworks steering column no issues with figment? They say 94s they won’t fit?
@FirstorLastGarage Жыл бұрын
Appreciate it! It works with no issues if you use rearward facing headers instead of forward facing headers. If not you have to drop in down some.
@shadowmaww7665 Жыл бұрын
hey man, building 1985 s10, short bed, ls swap 5.3 with powerglide, do i need special motor mounts and steering shaft? or can i front exit headers, and clear stock steering?
@FirstorLastGarage Жыл бұрын
Well I used all the Holley LS swap mounts on mine, but using up and forward headers you have to get creative. You have to either drop the shaft lower than the factory location(what I did), or re-route the back header tube to go around the shaft.
@terrypeterson60033 ай бұрын
Great tutorial!! Did you have to massage the firewall and ortrans tunnel any for the fitment of that combo and what year model is you th400?I have an 86 and I'm wanting to do a 6.0 with th400 with all of the blackheart products too
@FirstorLastGarage3 ай бұрын
Thanks! With all of the Blackheart mounts and the 302-1 oil pan everything fit in there perfectly. Didn’t have to do anything to the trans tunnel and the only thing I think I had to do on the firewall was remove a stud where something was mounted so it wouldn’t hit the head. The th400 is a regular stock case th400 from FTI.

How much trimming did you do to the crossmember? none at all using a special pan?
@FirstorLastGarage Жыл бұрын
I didn’t have to trim anything using the Holley 302-1 oil pan and the Holley ls swap mounts. It’s tight but it works.
@jasengiuliano25422 жыл бұрын
You will probably need to switch to a non boosted master cylinder to get more room on the drivers side for the headers

Type F Fluid in a GM Transmission?
@FirstorLastGarage Жыл бұрын
Yep…commonly used in th350/th400s
@robakagyser2300 Жыл бұрын
@@FirstorLastGarage when had my nova with a THM 350 it required Dextron fluid, not Type F. My FMX transmission in my Ford Galaxie used type F. They must have changed something, if type F is the correct fluid to use now.
@FirstorLastGarage Жыл бұрын
@@robakagyser2300 I agree that’s what it came with, but in a drag racing application a lot of people use/recommend type F. Differing opinions on the subject, but if you google “type f in a th400 you’ll see what I mean.
@robakagyser2300 Жыл бұрын
@@FirstorLastGarage Yes. I understand now. I read an article from Motor Trend on this issue. They interviewed Lake Speed, Jr. Dextron III was the original required ATF for the older GM Automatic Transmissions. Although the new Dextron VI will work in the older GM Automatic Transmissions, it is not the best. Apparently the Type F trans fluid, helps improve shifting in the older GM Automatic Transmissions. Lake Speed, Jr., Breaks down the GM Automatic Transmissions into two different groups: Those before the model year 2000, and those after the model year 2000. Those before 2000 should used Dextron III or possibly Type F, and those after 2000 should use Dextron VI. Again, Thank you for educating me on this one. -Rob in Tennessee Thank you for the opportunity to learn. I wrenches a lot on older vehicles in the past from mid 90s down, but it has been several years, so I am not up to date on things now.
