Don't agree. The truck pans sump is not as wide, front to back as most other option. The only one smaller is the Holley 302-1. The biggest problem with the truck pan is how tall it is. Even though I notched the frame for the truck pan I am now using a muscle car pan and it also need that notch. It's actually a little longer, front to back then an early truck pan. If the truck pan hits, then the muscle car pan will hit. I am using the muscle car pan and thankfull I had the crossmember already notched for the truck pan. The only problem with the truck pan is how deep it is.

I have a 1989 chevy van 30 Austen by skyline camper I'm bout to pull out everything and do a full swap 454 motor & trans, rear axle, putting in to a 98-99 S10 i'll be wielding the parts/ drilling new holes for mounts.. my 1st question is how much do I need to cut out/remove off the S1.. I've hopped up trucks before haven't done a conversion swap. i have old cars and trucks that are sitting so im gonna use what i can off them to make it happen. 2nd question mig wire feed or ark/stick better weilding for this?
@southerngearz Жыл бұрын
Hhmmmm the thing i am unsure about is the 454, i know it fits and I am going to say the crossmember will need notching for sure. The trans will fit no problem since its likely a 4l80 of some sort. The rear axle will need narrowing but they have axles for those 12 bolts(I assume its a 12 bolt) for s10's. As for welding mig or stick will work but mig looks better when done right. Stick can weld thicker metal better just doesnt look as good. Either way that s10 will be a torquey sob for sure.

Thanks for posting this. I’m looking into LS swapping my 99 Bravada which has managed to eat three 4.3s. I know the front diff is going to fight me and so is the AC. Those are my two biggest concerns right now doing this. Your videos are much appreciated. Right now, I’m currently cleaning the front end and replacing worn parts since no motor is in the way. That’s excellent advise for sure. Do it all while it’s easy. My goal is to have a mildly fast street truck. Nothing super crazy. But fun.
@southerngearz Жыл бұрын
So for the oil pan you will want the hummer h3 oil pan which should clear everything and the a/c really only has a couple options: notch the frame so it fits or get the brackets that moves it up and more in the way of other things. I would notch it for sure those brackets are expensive. Throw in a mild cam while you have the engine out with some 1218 pac racing valve springs and you should be pretty good on power.
@RodknockRhett Жыл бұрын
@@southerngearz I ended up researching more into it and found the h3 oil pan will be flirting with the front axle and diff. Unless I missed something. I did find a few oil pans specifically designed for 4x4 trucks. AC, I’m definitely spending the money on the bracket as it allows me to use the existing accessories. That simplifies the swap. Thanks for the advise! I’m now looking into the process of adapting my existing trans as I found out that some engines need an adapter/ spacer while others don’t (99-2000 4.8s and 6.0s). But I haven’t picked up a motor yet so nothing specific has been determined here.
@southerngearz Жыл бұрын
Yea as long as the motor is post 2001 then you have no issues. That being said the 2006 6.0l with 4l80e did have a spacer for the flex plate but to a 4l60e I didnt have one

I’m glad I came across this video. I’m definitely going to watch the whole series. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and letting us benefit from your experience. I’m planning to get an S10 and swap a V8 into it. I might look into getting a 2008 or newer LS3 Corvette engine if that’s feasible. I’m going to be looking at a couple of S10s today. One is a 96 with a 4 cylinder. The other is a 2000 and I don’t know what engine is in it now. They both have 5 speed manual transmissions. They’re both running and they’re both nice with straight bodies and clean interiors. You mentioned the wiring harness for the 1999-2001 year models. I’m wondering if that’s a big enough difference so that I shouldn’t consider the 96. Also, since I haven’t got the S10 yet, are there certain things I should look for and certain things I should avoid? Does it make any difference which engine and transmission is in the one I buy? I want to keep the A/C, power brakes and all the other accessories and I want the finished product to be show quality. I’m not highly skilled but I’m not a total beginner either. I rebuilt the 283 in my 62 Chevy with help. I pulled the 283 out of my 64 Impala convertible and put a 327 in it. I’ve also pulled and replaced several other engines but I’ve never swapped a V8 into something that didn’t have one before. Obviously this is going to be a bigger project than I’ve ever done before but I’ve always wanted to do something like this and I’m really looking forward to it. Sorry this comment is so long but I’m trying to get as much information as possible.
@southerngearz2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you got an idea as to what you want to do. If you have the choice of either 96 or a 99-02 I would go 99-02 just for the plug and play harness. This will allow you to retain all the interior components and use them. This will also mean leas work when it comes to the harness. Its comepletely possible to retain a/c it will just require either a notch to the passenger side frame rail or you can get a bracket that relocates the a/c compressor which just puts it the way of something else later down the road. As far as looking for anything in particular you want to make sure the chassis and frame are in good condition other than that you are going to change everything else. Its a very easy project to complete and it sounds like you got the skills to do it good luck and if you have any other questions or if I didnt answer one just shoot them over. Thats what Im here for.

@southerngearz2 жыл бұрын
Oh yea at least up to 350hp I would say possibly more. The truck 4l60e and the corvette 4l60e are similar but have different clutches inside. As long as you are not abusing it then it will hold up to launches here and there.

I am looking for an S 10 from 2000 until the end of the rod, extended bed Ls Swaps with not a lot of miles, manual transmission, and I have cash. If the S 10 is worth more than $30,000, I have a brand new dodge ram 1500 I might be willing to trade that has 5100 miles on the odometer and the truck is a 2020.

Well you got the t56 but they are pricey and cant be found in the junkyard unless you are super lucky. Then there is the nv3500 but its not known for its durability. You could go with a t5 from a mustang with an adapter.

Haven't watched the whole video but personally I'd go with a 4l80e Just due too how they are more durable than a 4l60e, Though if there is a Good transmission builder for a 4l60e Than maybe.🤔 My dislike for 4l60e is due too experience of them Failing Due too not holding up oh would a 6.0 out of a 2004 chevrolet express 3500 work?

I want to LS 5.3l Swap a 2004 S10 ZR2 4x4 Extended Cab 5speed Manual Trans. Started with a 4.3L... These frames are different than non-ZR2 frames... Anyone ever done one and kept the 4WD working with the LS? And AC working too... Those are my musts... Stock Trans and Xfer Case, AC, and FWD on Actual ZR2 S10.... If anyone knows a youtube channel showing one, or a link to pages showing one off. Please let me know.
@southerngearz2 жыл бұрын
So it looks like the main issue with that swap is the front diff wants to be in the same area as the oil pan. The is a guy who made one from the original 5.3l pan but it doesnt look the best. So you will have to make your own oil pan. Current performance makes mounts for it and then everything else should fit. Get a newer 4wd 4l60e so it bolts up to the engine and transfer case. It will be challenging and if I see a channel I will let you know. Cpw mounts www.currentperformance.com/shop/s-10-zr2-lsx-swap-engine-mounts/

If you dont mind pulling a motor yourself you can get the motor and trans for about nothing. Then a standalone wire harness( your 98 has a plug and play harness from current performance). No racing means you can get away with a 4l60e and the stock diff/driveshaft. Your fuel system will power the 5.3l but I recommend a walbro 255 just in case. Motor mounts can be got from ebay for cheap and they work great. Shory headers for easy install and you are good. You will have a few small things to grab but thats the bulk of it. You can purchased a fully unlocked ecu off ebay as well.

350 swaps are the easiest on these trucks. The 350 is a more durable engine and when built up, they can make some serious hp.

Why are you rebuilding the motor they usually unless someone ran it with no oil or something the bearings are usually in pristine condition even on a 200 thousand mile junkyard motor the cylinders have the cross hatch still and i understand that the best thing to do is not touch the bottom end at all when you do its not as good as the robots at gm did it for some reason they just torque all the bolts in the right sequence and the right numbers that they last basically forever if it has good oil pressure its a decent amount of money that could be saved w out touching it and if its not broke why fix it right go with this acronym KISS keep it simple stupid .. put that bottom end money towards a cam and timing set and a set of valve springs and from what ive been told thats all thats needed of course headers and whatever else your gonna do but send it just like it is and it will last a very long time posibly even longer than the one someone has been in the bottom end on idk why either.. you would think new bearings would make it better but the one w some miles on it has been broken in and is just loose enough to be rode hard and put away wet and live. A long life lol

@jonathancerrato886 there is a plug and play harness if your blazer is 97 or newer. If not they have standalone engine harness but you will need to figure out implementing the gauges. Thats not very hard though they have pinouts for the gauges.
