In the middle of a busy thoroughfare in Cavite, an unexpected brutalist housing for a corporation's employees stands in an attempt to make low cost housing sexy and sensual - affordable without compromising aesthetics or comfort. This 45sqm lot area and 62sqm floor area home cost PHP 1.1 million, a fraction of the cost of neighboring homes.
For inquiries regarding the Affordable House featured in this episode, please message Carlson Chan at Sine Pop fb page:

He will be happy to answer your questions,
except for referrals to contractors.
According to Chan, “Finding the cheapest contractor is not the key to affordability.”

Please create more of these videos. It's refreshing to see Filipino architects and designers going beyond the usual house designs in the Philippines. Designers who articulate and embrace great philosophy and marry them with practicality and functionality.

Imagine living in this house wearing just linen shirt and cotton boxers, doing calisthenics in the morning, reading books in the afternoon, and meditate in the evening with just the sound of wind and bamboo leaves. Youd get to know yourself deeper each moment of being there. Love this.

I appreciate the rawness of this house and how sensible the designer is to come up with this idea. As a designer, I believe that even a budget is important when designing a home; a designer needs to know how to make the most of his available resources. In this instance, the house has a lot of personality and doesn't need to be grand to do so. The brutalist minimalist approach doesn't look heavy in the eyes and still looks homey. I appreciate how the designer tells a story through the space and knows how to use natural light. It kinda remind me of Tadao Ando at some point :)

Yes, this should be the kind of design thinking for a tropical and still a developing country like Pinas. We should move away from adopting the design styles of Western countries. We need to maximize the natural ventilation and passive cooling for our homes, minimizing our electricity costs in the long run and more sustainable for our environment. But oh well, what can we do if the market proliferates these doll houses and fully air conditioned living, in a way they are controlling our idea of what a beautiful home is. Kudos to the home owners that go against the tide!

I am a fan of Design Seed, Never Too Small but finally, a concept or content for Filipino viewers is here in the Philippines. I can live in a home as bare as that, but my concern is the moisture from its walls, but I presume the architect and the designer of the house has a solution for that type of aesthetics.

Been following those two channels also. I see your concern. I also thought of the openness of the house because it always rains in the Philippines. Especially the open bathroom. I would want the option to have it closed or open depending on the weather.

I guess the open bathroom is fine since you'll also get wet when taking a bath. Hehehe. But seriously, it is still ok with me to feel a different vibe, because ever since my whole life I am using a traditional enclosed T&B. Kaya lang, on "Ber" months it will surely feel much colder lalo na pag mahangin pa.

I'm glad I found this channel. Thanks for sharing this. The owner of the house talks about loving ownership and location, but doesn't say that he loves the house. In the next episode, you should show what became of a house that may not have asked people what they want or how they live. It might surprise you. At the very least, it will surely be brightly painted and partitioned for 4-5 kids, assuming they survive the stairs. I imagine this is better than "low cost" options, but developers can still do better.

I'm not even sure kuya shares the aesthetic sensibilities of the this architect. gaano kaya nya matatagalan yang ganyang minimalist na home tapos unfinished pa yung walls. I get that yun yung aesthetic pero I'm betting hindi nya matatagalan yan. mag pipintura rin yan. tapos mag dadagdag na ng kung ano anong gamit. in due time matatambakan yan ng sobrang daming gamit tapos wala na yung wabi sabi vision na yan.
