What a great podcast! I’ve always been fascinated by the differences in Michaels’ portrayal of Hicks and Reese. Reese is this high strung, PTSD, agile, innovative soldier from the future who has seen terrible things. Hicks is a completely laid back, quiet, unfazed, rocklike character. While completely different roles, both exude that inner strength, warmth, humility and empathy. Completely devoid of ego.

This was the most interesting interview I've seen in a while. I've always been fascinated with Mark Rolston because he's one of those guys that has a face you don't forget. These stories he's got of Jackie Chan and Jack Nicholson and Nick Nolte are the best! I was kind of hoping his Star Trek TNG episode would get brought up. He was like the creepiest Star Trek villain and I had hoped for a story of working on that show for an episode.

Mark Rolston in 'Midway' as Ernest King steals the scene and though the movie races away, his presence remains. A small part, but a superb piece of acting beyond the material by not overplaying it.

Hollywood has tried to replicate Aliens for almost 4 decades. In true Hollywood fashion they learn all the wrong lessons from success. It is the characters that made that movie so perfect! Everyone is so perfectly cast, the audience gets completely invested in them; From Ripley all the way Frost and Ferro! It's a total immersive film in that way

Great interview. I don't see how he's surprised though that he wanted Cruise over Robbins. Probably wanted people to actually see the movie in the theaters. Robbins's last movie made 47 million. Cruise's was The Firm, which made 271 million - a dramatic role too that his acting got praise for. It's just one of those performances now though that you can't see anyone else playing.
@badinfluence381416 күн бұрын
Cruise was always going to be better from a business perspective, but he would have been badly miscast. Robbins was perfect for it though, one of those 'born-to-play-it' castings.

So, this show is AMAZING! That is the best word to define it! And if Michael has a guest so open and with total Trust each other, so the result is simply amazing because between both of them the anecdotes and stories are uncountable and as they are not filters (something is GREAT TO HEAVEN) so I enjoyed from the beginning to the end. First of all, I NEVER LIKED THE ACTORS YOU SAY, Mark, for that I like so much the real actors AS YOU BOTH. I never liked the stars! Tom Cruise for Andy Dufresne!! Look NOT, but even Tom Cruise for NON movie in history of Cinema. I never understood what the audience saw and sees in him. For me it is a mistery. So I start for The Shawshank Redemption and look, I understood perfectly two things: why Michael didn't watch it at the first moment and needed his time for that, and why Frank Darabont (so brilliant) wanted Mark for the character. For the time he was in screen simply you never ever forget his performance from the first viewing. Simple he was perfect. And this is a perfect movie, a kind of state of GRACE for all the people who were in it. For me one of the best movie in the history. And Morgan. Well we all knew how big he was but well, he was bigger than EARTH on it. Al Pacino, well, he was great in GODFATHER (less 3 🤦♀️, I was LOL in the famous dramatic sequence) I guess thanks to Coppola but really, I can't stand him either (I have said it finally 😮💨). And the same with Jack Nicholson. Could you imagine Michael the torture to shoot Batman with him? I know you matched with Robin Williams but it's just an Hypothetical situation. So after the stories from Mark I can understand MUCH BETTER, the TORTURE IN THE SHOOTING OF TH SHINNING! My Gosh, Those TWO EGOS TOGUETHER! And with EARWIG!! And Pacino too!! What!!! That is the famous METHOD! 🤦♀️ And for the end, Nick Nolte!! I LOL so much! Yes, I suppose sometimes an actor can be complicated like person, but having a personality beyond the defaults or weaknesses. But I didn't want to be Nick Nolte's wife 😂😂. I loved much the anecdote of the royalties for Aliens and about the weapons atrezzo .... and wine 😂😂😂 And I loved soooo much how close you are , the cast of Aliens, as a kind of family. It is simple precious and I saw that in Aliens expanded. So pretty. Then this is my favorite chapter! THANKS GUYS FOR NOT HAVING FILTERS!!!

I get the impression that Ridley Scott is extremely territorial with Alien. He probably didn't like that Cameron's movie kind of upstaged him a bit. and now he has that franchise locked up... and nothing gets past him without his say. I think the big reason why Fede Alavarz got to make his Alien movie and Blomkamp didn't is because Blomkamp refused Ridley's input and Fede let Ridley do what he wanted with Romulus.
@brianmccaig16 күн бұрын
Wrong, Ridley loved Aliens, and had very little input on Romulus. Aliens was an action war movie, Alien was an incredible art house horror film, and the original. To compare them is stupid and unnecessary. They stand alone as great movies. But in my opinion Alien is the goat.
@hendo33713 күн бұрын
I am not sure how your relationship is with him but, it would be really cool if you could get Rick Rossovich on to talk, it seems like he was in a lot of movies with you...not as many as Bill Paxton but, close.

Big ups to Mark for disliking Pacino. He and De Niro are two of the most overrated actors ever. Meryl Streep and Christopher Walken are just two examples from their generation who are infinitely more skilled. Pacino/De Niro as the best ever was just a meme that kept being repeated until it became dogma.
