Well that was a fun little jaunt. I used to be a district nurse in Acton, on a bicycle of course. When it was raining I used all these little connections to get around and get away from the rain for a few minutes! The Overground was the North London Line in those days, and the trick was to know which end of the train had the guard's van for my bike. The way to tell was to look for the black triangle painted on the front of the train. If it was at the front, that was where the van was, and if it wasn't visible, that meant it was at the back instead. This is why cyclists at Acton Central etc would stand exactly in the middle of the platform, ready to run to either end depending on whether they saw the infamous black triangle or not. Happy days!

I once encountered a group of chaps who were visiting all the underground stations with 'Park' in them in a day - they had to get out and be photographed at each. I met them near Park Royal - I think they still had Moor Park to tick off. Also: Acton Central on the Overground is the where the power source changes between 'overhead' and 'third rail' - people on westbound trains often react when they hear the collector/pantograph come down with a bang.

But technically the 218 didn’t take over the 440 as the 440 is still around the 218 just took over the 440 between North Acton and Acton and continues to Hammersmith via the former 266 between Acton and Hammersmith. The 440 does still exist it just rerouted between Acton and North Acton and now goes via Horn Lane.

Hi Geoff, I'm heading to London in over a week, and I was thinking about doing something like all 11 London Underground lines in the fastest possible time. Obviously I would have to do my research before I do the challenge.

Well done Geoff. I reckon you should take the 57 minutes. Who said you had to get out at East Action? After all there were others you didn't get out at! By the way, here's a challenge for you: the fastest trip to ALL Ruislip stations using the Underground only - no walking or buses. You'd be hard-pushed to do that in under an hour. Thanks for all your videos.

Seeing Geoff walk 10 minutes away from my house near the 218 bus stop is pretty surreal!

Although you did not get out at East Acton, you did not need to really as it was the last station of the seven, and the train did slow down to pass it, so I think your original time counts. PS all the purple trains on the West are now 9 cars long, In the East its still a mix.

But but... If you don't have to get out at each station, you did it all in 57 minutes. I'm happy with that result. And people trying this after you, they simply need to start at East Acton right now...
