As somebody who's struggled through engine swaps, here's some advice: Remember that when the clutch wears, the pressure place fingers move OUT towards the throwout bearing. When designing your adapter, be sure to make it like 1/8" to 1/4" thicker than the depth required to rest the throwout bearing against the pressure plate fingers with a new clutch. Otherwise, as soon as the clutch breaks in, you may find your clutch slipping just from the static pressure of the fingers against the fully retracted throwout bearing.

Do you know what the difference in internal parts are between the DT722 and the D722? I have to rebuild mine and if I have to replace parts I might as well upgrade it to the turbo parts if there is a difference.
@TheDumry2 жыл бұрын
I’ve never seen a Dt722 only non-turbo, but once i had to swap a turbo from a dt1505 to a d1505. That did require some drilling for the oil return line which wasn’t in the non turbo block. Also the injectionpump needed some adjustment since it didn’t know it was now running a turbo. Internally i hardly can imagine any issues since these blocks are so durable. Anyway, of you also install an oil cooler and don’t have any pressure on your oil return line you should be in the clear. That d1505 is still running so its possible

Kubota uses German letters to enumerate the number of cylinders a particular engine has. I was told by a Duetz service manager this was because in the early days , Deutz had provided cast blocks / heads for Kubota E = Eines = One Z = Zwei = Two D = Drei = Three V = Vier = Four Also, the last # 2 in the D722 isn't displacement, it is a designation code for stroke ( in this case 68 mm ) so the " advertised approximate displacement " is 720 CC and 719 CC actual .

Some Good Turns are big - saving a life, helping out after floods or other disasters, recycling community trash, working with your patrol on conservation projects. But Good Turns are often small, thoughtful acts - helping a child cross a busy street, going to the store for an elderly neighbor, cutting back brush that is blocking a sign, doing something special for a brother or sister, welcoming a new student to your school. A Good Turn is more than simple good manners. It is a special act of kindness.

Back in the early 80"s a designer put a 17HP 3 cylinder Kubota diesel in a car and got 128mpg (at 35mph I believe). An article was published about it in Mechanix Illustrated magazine. The frame and running gear was from a Triumph Spitfire car and the body was custom fiberglass over foam. Robert Q Riley Enterprises was the guy and he designed a lot of neat vehicles. Unfortunately he was a one-man business and he died a couple of years ago. You can still google his business and find a copy of his website with all the vehicles. I don't believe you can order plans anymore.

I saw somthing similar with a small industrial diesel engine in a locost kit car that had some extra bits to reduce air drag. 100+mpg is pretty neat and by no means is a miracle if you can accept driving a very lightweight and low power vehicle.

The Kubota engine isn't designed to have thrust on the crankshaft. The pressure from pushing in the clutch will put forward thrust on the crank and damage it. Somewhere in the service manual for the engine it says not to side load or put thrust on the crankshaft. It's only supposed to drive a splined shaft that is supported by bearings to take the force of the thrust.

Good for learning the mechanical parts and how they fit and work together. Doesn’t really give more depth on difference between flat, straight 6, V8, V10, etc. so understanding things like “naturally aspirated” engines are somewhat curt in explanation. Essentially it’s car engineering 101 great for those with little or vague knowledge of automotive engineering.

I'm a recent mechanical engineering graduate and I (embarrassingly) was never that familiar with car engines. I perform all basic maintenance myself, but have never really done any in-depth repairs out of a combination of laziness and unfamiliarity with engines. Learning the basic 4-stroke engine cycle is one thing, but knowing how an engine and entire automobile is put together is a whole 'nother story.

Robot Cantina, I've had a crazy idea for a long time for a Steam/gas hybrid car. Not sure if it's possible but my idea is running the exhaust manifold into a water boiler much like how the coal fire is fed through the heat exchanger in a steam engines boiler. And then use a steam engine that engages a clutch when pressure has been reached to assist the gas engine. My other take on exhaust gas energy recovering is running a turbo on the exhaust, but instead of turning a turbine for the intake it spins an electric generator that directly powers an electric assist motor on the engine.
@mommapanda57362 жыл бұрын
These are both fantastic ideas!
@micheals19922 жыл бұрын
@@mommapanda5736 you could also have a water injector in the cylinder to absorb some of the excess heat and generate extra pressure from the steam produced during the power stroke. I can't imagine such a thing would be compatible with a catalytic converter though. The exhaust gases would be cooler as the heat absorbed to generate steam would in theory increase an engines thermal efficiency.

The weight of 2 flywheels is going to make acceleration more lackluster than it should be. Too bad with all that work that you didn't decrease the rotating mass to closely resemble the Kabota flywheel alone. Some weight reduction could be accomplished via machining away material and/ or lightening holes or even reproducing one out of aluminium. I really like diesel and always believed they should be more utilized in this country to power small cars and pickups. Good luck !

Always tighten your clutch up in a star pattern even when test fitting. That's a great way to damage a pressure plate.

Going round and round slightly tightening bolts works just as well. the goal is not to run any single bolt from loose to tight in one shot.
@mastermnd222 жыл бұрын
@@bobroberts2371 Not a single experienced technician would tell you that's correct.. I bet you think you can do the same thing with wheels too.
@bobroberts23712 жыл бұрын
@@mastermnd22 Wheels need to be in a star pattern because the center of the wheel needs to flex during tightening ( like a belleville washer ) . This spring action prevents the lugs from loosening during use. A clutch cover isn't coined so round and round isn't an issue. And. . . .if you are doing clutch cover in a star pattern from loose to tight in one shot , that will bend the cover. The goal is to evenly apply pressure so the cover ears are not bent in the process. Round and round with a couple of turns per bolt accomplishes this goal.
