While buying a consumer digital pinball machine like the Arcade1Up Marvel, Star Wars or Attack From Mars cabinets, ATGAMES Legends Pinball, or ToyShock pinball, makes sense due to convenience and price, you’ll be missing out on some amazing VPX virtual pinball tables. Yes, it’s more expensive but if you can, building a VP is rewarding and gives you access to the very best the hobby of virtual pinball has to offer.

@@usmcculp Not exactly. You’d need a hefty PC already to play VPX & PBFX3, which means you probably have a working VP - for example like me - I have a working 3 screen VP with buttons but without an actual cabinet but I wouldn’t mod one of these to play mine because I’m running a 43” 4K play field and I would be severely downgrading my visuals.

Thanks for showing us what is available. Because I'm older, I really get off on the older EM games from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. What is "retro" and "vintage" is all relative. Why do you say the only way to enjoy the Visual Pinball games is to build a cabinet yourself? Aren't there plenty of manufacturers building virtual pinball cabinets now?
@moxxichannel59502 жыл бұрын
I also love the EM games. Granted they do tend to become a little more on the "me too" end of things where they start to look like they were all made with the same playfield, but to me, the bells of those pinballs ARE pinballs to me. When I play the 70s tables with the muted electronic sounds from the Pop Bumpers, I just don't feel it. But the artwork and the sounds are primary and the gameplay to me is completely secondary on an EM table. What I meant in regards to building your own is, quite honestly, lots of things from minor to major, can go wrong on a VP machine and if you assemble it yourself (installing the software, downloading the tables, roms and back glasses, getting the screens working and wiring up some buttons for flippers, plunger, coins and start) you will have a MUCH better chance of solving an issue when one arises. Not IF one arises, WHEN. If you're thinking of purchasing an Arcade 1Up or even an AtGames Legends Pinball, those really pale in comparison to what a VP can do. If you're investigating purchasing a pre-made VP from VirtuaPin or Kijiji etc. then certainly, that is a way to go. It will be several thousand and just make sure you're not paying for the software....that should be ALL free - as the authors don't charge for it and neither should anyone selling the machines.

I use VR quite a lot and have never had any issues, but watching this video has made me appreciate what sufferers of VR vertigo go through! The content is really good, but the camera movement over the play fields is too fast and veers in a disconcerting way. I'm trying to appreciate the tables as much as you obviously do -- and more leisurely camera movement would help. Legends Pinball supports input from a computer, so it's possible some of these tables might be playable on the Atgames machine. Video to the back panel isn't supported by the stock table, but there are work-arounds. Some people add an additional monitor, some have done hardware hacks, and Atgames has their own add-on board (which is currently sold out.)

@moxxichannel59503 жыл бұрын
Without building the actual cabinet, mine cost me approximately: Windows Gaming PC ($850), 32” RCA TV backglass ($300), 43” 4K play field ($250), 19” ViewSonic Monitor DMD ($150). It’s important to note that the PC will most likely be double due to the graphics card Nvidia GTX1070, but the monitors/TVs can be a lot less. Also I used as TV “Mount It” to hang the TV for the backglass on the wall (as I haven’t built the cabinet yet). Then another $35 for the arcade buttons & zero delay USB controller board (arcade flipper buttons etc plug into this board and go into your PC). There are consumer digital pinballs available from ATGames, ToyShock & Arcade1Up but you’ll only get a handful of games. You can buy home built ones on FaceBook Marketplace or kijiji or from RecRoom Masters and VirtuaPin but no games are included. Learning the software is very important and you should never pay for VPX games as they are re-created by the VP community. Paying for Pinball FX3 tables on Steam is legit however.

Can these pinball games be played on a desktop computer?
@moxxichannel59503 жыл бұрын
Hey Gordon, absolutely they could. You’d still need a decently powerful PC, but since you wouldn’t be running 2 or 3 screens your graphics card could be less powerful. Most of the tables come without “cabinet mode” enabled so they’d look like a console pinball game, with the playfield in the center and areas to the right & left reserved for backglass/DMD.
@suplrist44373 жыл бұрын
The Atgames cabinet can do all of these tables through Arcadenet local play or OTG mode. Just sayin.
@moxxichannel59503 жыл бұрын
Yes and No. There is a caveat to what you're saying. The ATGames Legends cabinet will not RUN these natively, it will act as a monitor and controller to your PC that has the horsepower to run these (and will plug in via HDMI into the AtGames), which means, you'll already have a PC powerful enough to RUN VPX and you'll have already spent the time configuring VPX, VPinMAME, Ultra DMD, PinUp Player etc. Which wait a sec, is pretty great. But for example, I don't have a cab yet (I do have it set up as a cab with buttons etc), but I have a 3 screen setup with a 43" 4K playfield. Do I want to plug that into the ATgames cabinet and play at a lower resolution and frame rate? No, not really. Most people who are already running VPX have their setup going - but maybe not everyone. ATGames does want to make interfacing your VPX enabled PC easy to work - and I think that's pretty awesome. Obviously ATGames can't package VPX with their pinball as that's not what the VPX community is about - but, and I'm a huge thumbs upper for ATGames Legends Pinball already, for someone who does have the PC and the software ready and just needs a cabinet, that's mighty awesome and a total game changer. Thanks for commenting - and if I'm wrong in what I've said, please correct me.

@@moxxichannel5950 no your pretty much on the money. I’m not saying anyone would/should gut their Vpin. You can build a PC that will run VPX and the commercial apps for about $200-300, $700 shipped for Atgames, you’re all in for a grand or less. You’d be hard pressed to build your own for that. I think the new “toy” vPins are just going to be the cheap entry point for a lot of folks.
@moxxichannel59503 жыл бұрын
@@suplrist4437 I don't think you can build a PC rig that'll run VPX for $300. The graphics card alone (especially now) will set you back hundreds if you want a 2-3 screen set up. I got mine last year for a steal but today I'd pay probably double for the same thing due to the market. But I am in Canada where everything is $$$ so if you were running VPX in 1080p or even 720p with one screen at 30fps, maybe you actually could build one for that. At that resolution a person would probably be better off buying the A1up or AtGames.
