The boat looks great. Weather forecasts are pretty tight now. Looks like easterlies building overnight, becoming SE tomorrow morning around 30 knots. Then southerly 30-35, gusting 50 knots tomorrow, continuing to veer. Should be over by Sunday morning. So not too bad, I think, but you will still need to hold on to your hat.

I've owned about a dozen sailboats over the years and built a Richard Woods Strike 18. I said I wouldn't build another boat. If you still suffer from a leaky boot, roof flashing tape is an excellent solution if you find the right flexibility and something not tooo sticky. Wrap one layer overlapped a few inches. Use a hose clamp at the top around the mast and another on the bottom around the partner. Trim off excess around the top clamp with a razor blade. Last, apply a bead of silicone overlapping the mast and over the top of the clamp seal the flush cut boot material. As a professional rigger, has worked well for our customers!

A great little vessel, for sure. I join one other commenter asking about a fitted bucket or something else to serve as a head. I like the toe boards in the cockpit and the handrails forward. But I still think life lines to the bow pulpit would be helpful. And if you can’t afford a life raft, you can’t afford to go.

Might be a little late for this but adding a small amount of RTV between the wrap and the mast should create great secondary seal. I would add a layer of self vulcanizing tape (F4 Tape for you US Military Air Craft Maintainers) The tape tape will become one solid piece of silicon and with no seems for the water to find. The key is to pull the tape tight when you add it. The tape should be pulled to the point where it stops stretching. Don't be shy the harder you pull the better the seal, and 2 wraps are better than 1 and will take about the same amount of tape. Oh yeah it's UV stable

I was surprised that the line handling spot was kept on the cabin top even after the cockpit removal; of course I don't know if it would've been possible to lead them where working them was possible while standing up while still inside the hatch but that's what I assumed could work. Just as a nice to have option in rougher going, although I suppose with good seamanship the sail will have been reefed by then. Looking good! Perhaps the stringers in the forward compartment could've had pre-made and epoxy covered holes in them for tying up ropes and cargo netting, a little bit like the saloon overhead handholds were made?

Alan the design of my currently being built Paradox 14’ sailboat “Atlantic Slayer” makes no effort at all to seal the deck/mast joint! The designer Matt Layden designed a ingenious vent-box mast drain(plenum) that has proven to be ultra reliable-even in a 135* knockdown! I don’t know if your a “ham” but getting your General license or CA equivalent is easier than ever with online testing. You get your license and I’ll send you a 6W radio that can cross the Atlantic/North-Sourh America with a simple wire antenna and 12v battery! So you designed the mk3 yourself. Are those able to build for the average back yard builder? I have been pricing hyrdovanes And trying to wrap my head around constructing one. Are they possible to build for any ship? lol I had an electric autohelm 1000 come with the boat but it would only extend it wouldn't retract. I was going to get a st2000 but for longer crossings I was hoping to have a windvane. But I don't want a big box factory windvane. I would like to understand and build my own. Love your finished project . As a 4yr subscriber and Franklin being 5 wks ago it would be somewhat comforting to have a more timely update. But you tube is also about the drama I suppose. Bilge rats aren't as privileged as Paying subscribers I suppose. Im guessing your still in Halifax... I hope.
