Hollywood making a TV show that stressed the sanctity of marriage?? Never happen today. This episode is a gem that proved just how low the quality of today’s TV shows are in comparison to the golden days. Both in the quality of the acting and of the scripts. Thanks for posting this!

This was one of the most watched TV events of 1965.

Indeed it was and one of the most expensive productions of that time.

I loved 'The Farmer's Daughter' - it was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. Many years later, I was fortunate to meet William Windom, who was in town for a stage appearance. He was just as handsome and charming in person as on screen.

I wish I had met him. I talk to his daughter occasionally. Yes he was a very handsome man inside and out.

I was a great Farmers Daughter fan. i was just a few months past my 12th birthday when this episode aired on 11/05/1965, and i could hardly wait to see this wedding. This date also happened to be my brother's 6th birthday, and our family custom was that the birthday person got to choose what we watched that night, as we had only 1 tv set that had to be shared among the whole family. At the time, I had 5 younger brothers and a younger sister. i think what saved me was the fact that TFD began at 9:30pm, way past my 6 yr old brother's bedtime. It was really nice to see the uncut episode--thanks for being able to obtain it and post it on the site. It's much better than the bootleg dvds I purchased. i was sorry to see the show go (some of the later season 3 episodes were truly awful). It was lovely to see Katy being able to adopt the boys at the end, although it would have been nice if that had been the theme of the whole episode. A fourth season would have been nice, maybe with Katy having a little girl to round out the family.

Thanks for your Channel. I heard your interview on the podcast 'TV Confidential', then checked out your William Windom website, then followed it to the YT channel. I guess I first really appreciated his skill seeing him weekly on M,SW, but I'd recognized him from lots of earlier appearances in the 70s and 80s. A fine actor!!

@Jayden k all video This episode was sent to me by the Chicago Television Museum. This is the best quality copy available. The rest are from VHS recordings. Screen Gems never put the show onto video masters. Only 16mm and the time frame for broadcasting has expired. They are lost forever.

I think this dress is what Meghan Markle was aiming for. Unfortunately, she missed. This dress is gorgeous. Hers was just weird.

How tragic that Inger Stevens' life was antithetical to how she'd portrayed her character in the series. RIP.

Yes, she came from a broken family and never experienced affection from her mom, dad or step parents.

I never saw this, but know of it. In any case, I like William Windom,, and he makes it worth the watch. I was born 1960, so it might have been on when I was a tot.

What were the ratings like?
@williamwindomtributesite1640 Жыл бұрын
If I can remember, I believe the show was in the top 20. It never made it in the top 10. It had a fairly good following and I know the wedding episode had a huge rating. After that they went down significantly

After they married the show Tanked! the same thing happened to I Dream of Jeannie and Frasier. Audiences aren't interested when the main characters get hitched

It's a shame this episode didn't save the series.
@williamwindomtributesite16409 ай бұрын
No, sadly it's what led to its end. The post marriage episodes were formulaic...petty couple fights, jealousy of the opposite sex, teenager problems...

Hard to enjoy this show. The premise so hokey. This is on the tail end of post ww2 sentiment. But windom was the most talented and telegenic actor of the small screen. Olivier in sitcomlamd
@williamwindomtributesite16409 ай бұрын
I agree, about Bill that is. Personally I think the scripts were pretty good for the first two seasons. It went downhill in #3. Overall a much better product of Screen Gems compared to Jeannie and Bewitched.

It was very popular but the third season tanked. People prefer the chase to the actual catch.
