I think you did an amazing job with your video and put in details that give many people the confidence to tackle this job. Couple of things I learned replacing the CVT transmission on a 2010 (1) they are only two large bolts that hold the steering rack on to the subframe I zip tied the steering rack to support it and undid the two bolts and never looked back. Save me quite a bit of time. I don't think there is anything wrong with your method just a suggestion. (2) there is a small bracket which retains the shift cable I took that off. Took a piece of angle iron and fabricated a small lifting plate. It worked very well when removing the transmission pretty good balance point. With the torque converter installed on the replacement transmission it was a little heavy toward the bell housing but not by much. As I say just a couple of ideas and things that I found that help me I hope this helps all those that have taken the time to watch your very well put together video.

@@s33therfan....I can see the shaft side of torque converter is in center of flywheel and almost certain spindle side is in the trans side and the cv shaft is in but can't get transmission to come all the way together .... Anything you can recommend on bringing the transmission close enough to housing to bolt it together?
@camarogs12 жыл бұрын
No need to take the steering column shaft loose. Remove the bolts holding the assembly to the subframe then wire each end to hold it up away from the subframe. If the sway bar is still attached to the subframe it will swing up and over the steering assembly while lowering the subframe. Save a lot of work, no need to undo power steering lines. Just did one of these yesterday.

@s33therfan3 жыл бұрын
This will most likely be your torque converter seal. However with the transmission out , I would also inspect the rear main seal on the engine for leakage. However 99 percent of the time , its the torque converter seal , and they are notorious for this on these cvt. As a rule of thumb , unless its leaking badly , it may not be worth replacing due to the work required but definitely keeping a close eye on the cvt fluid , see how much is being lost. Great question , thank you for the feedback.

Hey man can you help me out I did the install and now my car isn’t cranking it’s making a whirring or humming noise when trying to start it. I didn’t remove the torque convertor when I did the install was I supposed to remove it from the flywheel and attach it to the trans before reinstalling? I’m trying to rotate the crank but I cannot
@marcosmorales8542 жыл бұрын
I just realized the flywheel/torque convertor bolts are hitting the block what should I do you think? I have a 2008 Nissan Altima with the same trans
@s33therfan2 жыл бұрын
The torque converter must be removed from the flex plate in order to seat the torque converter . You usually need to hear a double clunk( spin clockwise as many times as it takes while pushing) to make sure its seated. Also once the transmission is mated up before putting all the bolts., make sure the crank turns and the torque converter should spin freely using your fingers. Unfortunately you will need to remove the transmission. You can remove the transmission using the method you did , however you have to install and seat the torque converter before installing it. You are not the first person to do this , it happens and usually its just from failing to seat the torque converter and verify its spinning. Hope this helps.

@@s33therfan aww man we’ll that’s a bummer we’ll Atleast you made this process very easy and videoed everything I followed every step and wasn’t confused at all when doing it. We’ll Atleast I now know to remove torque converter and install on trans before mating trans. I appreciate your help and hopefully this next weekend I can get everything sorted. So once I click into the transmission will it stay on when I goto install it back onto the motor?
@s33therfan2 жыл бұрын
Once you get it seated and mated back up you can then access the torque converter bolts/nuts from under at the access or sometimes where the starter goes. Just make sure and loctite and snug them up. When the torque converter is seated good , it should always pull itself to the flex plate. Thanks again .

@s33therfan2 жыл бұрын
First thing to do is check all the connectors , more especially the pcm/tcm. Also check the round connector on the transmission. Make certain it is seated and make sure there are no messed up pins. There is really no reason for that code unless , something with the wiring or connectors. ( If there was no code prior ) Swapping tcm will also cause a similar code. It is also possible you might delete the code or disconnect the battery and see if it resets. Thanks for the feedback.

Your hand can usually tell when you will break a bolt. Long time mechanics could probably do either way. I like to break by hand then use machine to run the rest of the thread. Reverse same. Start by hand so you dont cross thread then machine to almost bottom then finish w torque wrench if you have it.

Where did you order the new trans from? Also, was the new one a reman or brand new?
@s33therfan3 жыл бұрын
I found a used one on ebay , I will say this check the seller rating , and if there is any issue ebay offers your money back. So if it does not work properly 100 percent , return it. I purchased my cvt fluid from amazon , it was by far the cheapest route. Thank you for the feedback. cvt fluid: amzn.to/3995pib

Mines is also currently stuck in second gear. Do you have a estimate on how much it cost with parts and labor?
@s33therfan3 жыл бұрын
It would be quite expensive , I am guessing around 3000 and up. One thing you can try is replacing the valve body first. You can get a reman from Street Smart Transmission for around $250. You really have nothing to lose and can even return it for a restocking fee. Get your cvt fluid online and you can usually save money there also. There are several videos on installing the valve body and the only trick is inserting a small screw driver to hold the slide fork. Best of luck and thanks for watching.

Buddy of mine asked me to do a trans swap for his 13 Sentra. I don’t need to have it programmed after the swap do I?
@s33therfan3 жыл бұрын
Great question. The tcm is separate from the transmission so it will not need programmed. That being said there is a part inside the tran called the Rom that will need to relearn . This will relearn over time by itself. Thanks for watching.

Do you have to reprogram the transmission
@s33therfan3 жыл бұрын
Great question. I believe it depends on how close the year of the transmission. I replaced the cvt in a Murano and it required no programing. This one I cannot say for certain , however I did swap ( what they call the rom) from the old transmission, while I was replacing the wire connector. The rom is the small black box on the valve body. Other than that there is nothing I am aware of that needs programmed. Thanks for watching.
