Thanks for the time and effort to make this video. I recently took my 2017 escape to the shop, and got this repair priced around 500 USD. Definitely think I will do the next replacement, will be re-watching in the future.

This was a fantastic video. I have been working on our cars for years. I have watched a bunch of horrible videos that were not very helpful. This was a perfect how to guide. Tips, torque specs, great camera placement. You took some time on detailing this job. Well done and 2 thumbs up. I subscribed.

I watched your other video of the driver side replacement cv axle, would that be a good carry over to the driver side of a 2017 Ford Escape? I’m watching both videos multiple times to be prepared regardless. Thank you for your time and knowledge sir!
@s33therfan2 жыл бұрын
Yes , it should be the same. What ever amount of tran fluid drains out , replace that amount . Only other tip is to avoid hitting the cv axle seal , and monitor the seal after replacement for any leakage even if replacing with a new one. Thank you for watching.

I don't think you showed how you got that CV joint out of where the rotor is attached to
@GramsRyan3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for making this video, it is precisely what I was looking for. It appears you have a drip-pan underneath. Did you need to drain and/or top-up fluid afterwards?
@s33therfan3 жыл бұрын
I did not lose much fluid but usually I like to drain out as much as will drain and refill the exact amount. However if the transmission fluid is clean I would just add back whatever drains out. Thank you for watching.
@dustinmacomber45654 ай бұрын
Everything was really good I just can't get it out of where the rotor fits into. Does that mean it seized in there? Do I hit it with a hammer? You didn't show how you got it out of that part

I have a 2018 ford escape se and I did pull the CV axle out on the front passenger side and on the inner side of the bar had a fitted seal shield on it. The one you pulled out didn't have one. Even the one that was shipped to me didn't have on it. Do I need it? Or do I need to buy another one with that shield on it. Thank
@s33therfan Жыл бұрын
It is not entirely necessary. I get replacements all the time that don't have these shields. Having said that , I have in the past transferred them over from the old cv axle . Great question and thank you for watching.
@kennyscott52512 ай бұрын
This is a great video but why didn’t you put the same cv axle that you took out instead of a new one? Just asking.

Usually the boots start showing signs of dry rot and leakage. Also you might have a popping clicking noise when turning , most noticeable at slow speeds. I have also had severe vibration from bad cv axles. Thanks for watching.

Does the seal need changed with the joint? I did mine today and noticed its now leaking where the joint goes in the transmission. Did I damage the seal? I was so careful, I don't see how I damaged it. Is it possible some will leak out just from taking it out without draining the transmission fluid? Thanks!
@s33therfan4 ай бұрын
Yes , you may have some drain out when removing it . Just replace what you lost which is probably minimal. Hope this helps.
@LiterallyJesusChrist4 ай бұрын
@@s33therfan I noticed just a little bit when actually changing the shaft, after I test drove it about 25 miles, when I got back and parked it, it now appears to have a steady leak. I think I might have ruined the seal. I'm not sure if I can get away with replacing just the seal, or if I need to do the bushing as well. Know of a bushing and seal removal/install kit for a 6F transmission that isn't a million bucks?
@s33therfan4 ай бұрын
I would just put another seal in it , I have got most of mine from autozone or oreillys fairly cheap. Just as cheap as online in most cases.
@LiterallyJesusChrist4 ай бұрын

I just paid Ford 700+ to replace CV axle & for some reason they also replaced tie-rod end? Why would they replace a good tie rod ? BTW- they didn't Re-align the front-end. So, it's back at Ford for alignment. Free. As they SHOULD have did alignment after replacing part that wasn't even bad. Ford lost a customer . 60k miles & was getting a little shaking when turning right. Seems a common problem with these cars? Thanks for the great video.
@s33therfan2 жыл бұрын
These dealership prices can really add up in a hurry. Not sure why they had to replace both but definitely they should have aligned it before letting the car go. Thanks for sharing and I appreciate the feedback.
