Regarding the drain plug, I much prefer the type with the disposable aluminum crush washers which get replaced with each oil change. I've used these for many decades and they have never given me a problem. On my 2008 Escape, I replaced the original one which has a worn out rubber gasket with a new OEM style from Dorman (#65430) plus a disposable copper crush washer. Now I don't have to worry about the drain plug leaking. I just tighten it until the crush washer "squishes" just a little so that I won't overtighten and ruin the threads.

Does the oil pan gasket fit both the 3.0L V6 and the 2.5L 4 Cylinder? I can't find a part specifically for the 4cyl engine. Any help is greatly appreciated

The 2.3l does not offer a gasket. You will use rtv black or ultra black. I am leaving a link for mazda 3s , it should be fairly similar. Great question and thank you for watching. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGHGnGCVrr6od5o

how do I get the exhaust pipe off without fuckin it up???
@ggburleigh2 жыл бұрын
Very good explanation of task. I would not use rattle gun to tighten exhaust flange studs as it's a mating fit of cone on the swaged / upset end of exhaust pipe. My Mazda 2006 had rear bank flange done up with rattle gun to the point of destruction, and I had cut nuts off stud and then take the rear exhaust manifold off, bush rough as gut mechanic. Replaced studs with GR 10.9 HT BOLTS, tack weld heads in place on rear side of flange use never size on all exhaust threads.

Great Video! I face many of the same work as covered for your Tribute as my 2003 Ford Escape 3.0 (power steering pump, exhaust system etc.). I’ve got a badly leaking oil Pan, but the PO cut off the rear Flange on the Front Exhaust/Flex Pipe and it’s welded up to Intermediate CAT. I’m thinking about cutting off the big CAT and eliminating, and replacing the Front Exhaust/Flex Pipe….Undecided on best approach.

Yes , these are terrible with leaks overtime. This one is still dry and leak free after the complete gaskets and seal replacement. I made a video a while back , replacing the fuel pressure sensor, and showed how it was still leak free. Thank you for the feedback , much appreciated.

@@s33therfan I usually always go with Fel-Pro gaskets too, but chose Victor Reinz as it indicated improved design and gasket covered bolt holes. Regarding Front Exhaust / Flex Pipe, I have no choice but to cut straight pipe to Intermediate Cat or I’ll never get Oil Pan off… Hoping like hell that removal or replacement of Int. Cat alone will do the trick w/o having to remove those exhaust manifolds. For cleaning Pan, I plan to use Harbor Freight media blaster gun (open air) with Walnut Shells. I used walnut shells on my valve covers and it did a great job. Exhaust Work: Oxygen Sensor Tool: For removal of the Bank 2 Sensor 1 (upstream), for $21, I bought the below tool (22mm or 7/8”). Worked great! Nothing else that I had worked for me on this one sensor. www.amazon.com/CAROCK-Flexible-Contour-Installer-Automotive/dp/B07RT8HRR9/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=Oxygen+Sensor+Wrench&qid=1633445256&sr=8-3

Fantastic set of videos - on my ‘05 Tribute V6 I have oil leaking out of my oil pan, main crank and valve cover. It’s a mess! I’m using your videos to do all three. I’m competent but not confident under cars, so these are just perfect. You sound like you might be from Southern Ohio too so that makes you okay in my book to begin with. 👍 Thanks again for sharing your expertise and making such clear to follow videos!

thanks for sharing .Wish my Tribute was rust free like yours, with all the road salt here , it will fall apart before it starts leaking to much , then again i need that extra preventive undercoating ...lol

Very true , the oil is definetely a good preventative for all that rust and salt corosion ha. Thanks for watching.

I love the boxy look of these Escapes. I still don't get why ppl don't like the look of them. They're definitely an aesthetic upgrade over the previous generation Escapes.

@@s33therfan indeed. Most ppl don't realize these 3 cars are the same thing except for the front grills. I own a 2009 Mazda Tribute 3.0 V6. Many casual car fans have actually confused it for an Escape. 🤣
@boomerguy993511 ай бұрын
I agree. The Gen 2 Escape/Tribute/Mariner actually looked utilitarian like a sport UTILITY vehicle which could carry big things. The newer "sporty" looking ones look like all the other SUV's out there - fashionable but not functional. Also, I've been reading about the problems with the Gen 2 engine (with VVT) and transmission (6-speed auto) and their problems. I think the 2008 is the best model with the Gen 2 body and Gen 1 engine and transmission. Not quite as fast or powerful but simpler and less problematic.
