I can tell you one thing I've exclusively used it for hunting and I haven't once touched up the edge. @@sonofwilfredseems like a nice compromise between a large chopper and a smaller knife. I don’t split wood much but having a 4.5” size would be handy

I have been noticing that black spots on the scales all in the same spots. Does the sheath leave some kind of stain there? Does it come off ? Also, how do you like this overall? Good performance all around? Thanks!

Well spotted. There are two plastic "nubs" in the sheath. They are part of the moulding for knife retention. The g10 scales are pretty grippy and it sands off a bit of plastic every time it goes in and out. This leaves the black mark. It does clean off. I shave the nubs off a bit for less retention. I'm not a "hard user" of knives this S30V is strictly used for skinning foxes hares and rabbits and harvesting meat from larger game. It's excellent for edge retention, I haven't had to sharpen it in two years. I use it most weeks. I really like the original flat scales because that's what I'm used too I tried the palm swell models and they were not for me. I also love the 1095 steel, it's so easy to keep razor sharp. As far as any wood work I can't comment. I hope this helps you out a bit mate.
