Really enjoyed the game analysis at the end of this. Nice to see how the pros break things down. Thanks as always for the tips and help Coach.

The cutback drill is a groin snapper for us old timers. Generally you push with all you can to get across ahead of the shooter. But if they have quick hands, they might be able to cut back. To be able to stop yourself and push the trailing leg back is very difficult. Personally I always go for the poke check if the shooter is going across. The dirty play is to get your leg in front of the shooter as they come across to “stop the puck”. This will likely cause a trip, and you won’t make many friends this way, but they probably won’t try it again. Love the analysis of the in game footage. Keep that up.

All is fair in love and hockey. As far as I'm concerned I have absolutely no duty whatsoever to wait for a puck to come to me. If a shooter makes the mistake of bringing it close enough to striking distance I'm going after that puck. If I end up getting the shooter with it then so be it. It is my duty and responsibility to stop that puck not to wait for every shot to come at me. 🤷🏻♂️

This was helpful, however in beer league, I have several instances where my defense is nowhere to be found and Forward are able to come in on breakaways From the middle of the face off circles and cut across the net The V theory becomes slightly less relevant as I find myself having to move Laterally across the front of the net to maintain depth or give up a lot of depths in order to make it all the way back to the post and get sniped. Any suggestions on dealing with stopping breakaways With extreme lateral movement??? Thanks for all the vids.
@FutureProGoaltendingUSA4 ай бұрын
Lateral movement is maximized when you have backward flow and momentum. Hence the Y theory. If you stand stationary and hope to move laterally with any power it will be highly ineffective. Try the backward flow and when you detect one of these chances get a really deep crouch to load the legs to increase power potential. (And quality fake poke checks will put shooters on defense )

On the cutback, is there a reason he slides into RVH instead of overlapping the post? Seems like the delay between pad hitting post and body coming in behind would open up a gap, as opposed to just bringing his squared butterfly slide over?
@FutureProGoaltendingUSA2 жыл бұрын
Both are valid options. I personally do as you describe. The one redeeming feature of the reverse here instead of overlap is it can prevent the “tuck around tap” guys like McDavid do every game. Great point and thanks for commenting.

Is the five -hole take away dependent on if the shooter is left or right handed? mean how do I decide which leg to feign the drop down with?
@FutureProGoaltendingUSA2 жыл бұрын
I would generally lean toward using the side you are most strong with initially. Fluery picks a one knee down,randomly independent of shooters hand

Is it still a thing that players who deke shoot the puck from a point that is 6-12” from the corner of the crease?

I don’t think that is consideration.

What’s the benefit to the Euro way??? Going that low seems like your giving way to much opportunity up top???
@FutureProGoaltendingUSA2 жыл бұрын
It is typically used as an emergency response if you don’t get the fundamental way accomplished. Although you tend to see more Euros using as a go to.
