Really appreciate your videos. I’m setting up my rain catchment system right now. 1/2 in thru-hulls with hose through my foredeck and cockpit sun shades. Just purchased 4 five gallon collapsible water containers too. Not sure how well it will work in big winds. I used to just put towels around the low side of my deck fills on my last boat. I could fill the tanks quick in a tropical downpour. Fair winds

I love the simplicity of the towel idea 👍🏻

Do your Jib sheets run aft and then forward to the winch? If so, what advantage does that have? Do you not have a Jib track with adjustable car? I guess I need to go read some of your website articles about the rebuild. 😄

Hi. Thanks. No jib track. Yes to footblock/turning block which ensures the jib sheet lead angle to the winch remains the same no matter where leads are set. The snatch blocks are secured to the bulwarks with a strop so infinitely adjustable. Eliminates the need for a jib track and all the holes in the deck to bolt it down. A good overview of the Far Reach is S4/EP 1.

Is the stock mainsheet traveler position just aft of the companionway or is that something you did. If so...why? I've only had travelers on the stern. Do you ever regret the tiller swap? I definitely think the boat looks nicer with the tiller. Was it as simple as adding a more lengthy tiller handle to the emergency rudder shaft?

Scroll down to entries for 6 and 19 June 2015. All the details are there. Update 12 Nov 23. I didn't explain the why behind the location in the log. So the short version is I originally wanted end-boom sheeting but the angles were wrong to make it work properly. I didn't want mid-boom sheeting because I carry a 9' hard dinghy there and the traveler would have to be positioned over the companionway to provide adequate clearance. Also mid-boom sheeting puts too much stress on the boom and requires a winch to sheet in the mainsail. The bridge deck location is a compromise. But it's far enough aft the loads on the boom are minimal. Plus, I reinforced the boom. The location is very good for sail control. Also with the Antal 6:1 mainsheet system there is no need for a winch. Lastly, all the sail controls are near the front end of the tiller:mainsheet, jib, stays'l. It all worked out. www.farreachvoyages.com/blank-70/ Tiller mod log is here. www.farreachvoyages.com/blank-40/ No regrets.
