Thank you for this shorter video format. I hope you can do more of them. While I can get a lot out of the extend streams and videos, I don’t alway have the time to watch them in full.

I plan on doing the island hop route to Puerto Rico before I retire two years from now. The only difference is that I plan on leaving the boat in marinas along the way, and and return to the US each time, since I can fly to scout the location before hand, until after Turk and Caicos to Punta Cana, DR. I'm planning on several months to complete the passage, no rush, and hopefully with crew but as of right now, solo. I would hate to skip the Bahamas as I dont plan on heading back north to visit them. Thanks for the video, and as FYI, I skipped the first 2:50 mins of the video, to get to the real substance.

You pretty much ‘have to’ stop in the Bahamas as you can’t sail safely through the Bahamas without sleep and even in the winter storms pop up and you’ll want to seek safe a safe anchorage or marina. I’ve sailed to the Bahamas a handful of times and there are many beautiful islands/anchorages and marinas. Well worth spending your first trip exploring there. BTW- most people leave from Miami or Ft Lauderdale and it NOT an afternoon trip! (Unless your in a go fast boat doing 25 knots) He mentioned it’s 50 nautical miles at closest point and at 5 knots that’s 10 hours. If leaving from Ft L/Miami, head 90 degrees the Stream will offset you north and you’ll hit West End, Grand Bahama. You don’t want to arrive at night and try to navigate strange waters with few navigational aids. All my trips have been with a crew and over night. Some leave before daybreak and arrive before dark. He was correct about the Gulfstream being treacherous if their is a wind coming from the north. The strong current going north hitting the wind causes a nasty chop with steep waves 6+ with short period and confused seas. (Think sailing in a washing machine). After the wind clock to come out of the south, then wait a day for sea to calm. Good luck and fair sailing!
