Many years ago I was lucky enough to take a quick hop in the left seat of a British Army Gazelle. An awesome experience. The first time i fired up the Gazelle in DCS VR I was transported back to that flight, yet this time I was the pilot. It felt like I'd stolen a Helicopter....😊

Message: Don't forget the VERY important C-Button! You can now lower or raise the heli while in autohover mode! Many people use the Gazelle in a wrong way ;) Search Target use cover go hover slowly raise heli fire weapon go down again Or short there is a reason why the camera is on the top.

Fun fact, this will be covered along with the autopilot modes. You do however have a good point in that it is very useful for the HOTs in particular and thus would've been worth mentioning.
@justmikeita53824 жыл бұрын
How is that possible irl? The hot3 is a wire guided missile, so there's a wire that connects the missile to the chopper, if you go down after shooting won't you just break the cable?
@MattVarnish11034 жыл бұрын
@@justmikeita5382 The cable unspools out of the missile, not the helo,, so itll just drop down and rest on the trees or w/e else was in the way...

Additionally, if you unable to fire a missile, you can check the missile panel. There are two lamps: the red one, MAUVAIS, french for BAD, means the chopper is not aligned with target. The green one, BON, french for GOOD, indicates you are aligned and able to fire a missile. But yuu have to know, it's illuminated even if the target is out of range, so you still need to use the laser ranging.

Syria used the Gazelle in the 1982 Lebanon War and had quite the success knocking out Israeli tanks and flying so low they avoided Israeli aircraft. The Syrians also had the Mi-24 hind at the time but the USSR only sold them dumbed down export models without anti tank missiles. So the Syrians had gone to the French because those guys will sell anything an bought the Gazelle armed with the HOT missile. HOT is a European anti tank missile that is very much like the American TOW missile in capabilities. Non aircraft side note. During the war the Syrians managed to capture a few upgraded Israeli M48 tanks with the latest western anti tank ammo. These tanks quickly ended up in Damascus and then in the USSR. The Russians then tested the ammo and improved their tanks to be invulnerable at combat ranges to the ammunition and they where so happy to be getting the best and latest anti tank rounds that they gave Syria T72A tanks straight from Soviet stocks. These tanks had the latest and greatest of USSR technology unlike the T72M export versions the Syrians had been using earlier and that the Iraqis used in 1991.

One thing to note, on the missile master mode selector "Marche" refers to the entire right section and just means "On". It is then separated in two sub-modes, those being "Jour" ("Day") and "Nuit" ("Night"). Also, unless I missed it, we forgot to mention what the line above the absolute heading in the camera sight refers to: It's the relative heading of the camera in respect to the helo, "D" meaning it's facing right, "G" facing left. To be within firing parameters for the HOT-3s one must not be more than 3° off center in either direction (which is where auto-slave comes in very handy).

If you need an easier way to get into auto hover - briefly land behind the hill you are going to peak over - gently start to take off - as soon as the skids leave the ground select auto hover. now control height with auto collective.

Another excellent video, thanks. BTW I’ve been playing around and it isn’t necessary to autohover to fire the missiles. Instead head towards the target with the selector in Ass, change to Pilot to aim, adjust heading until D or G is less than 3 and fire. Then keep the heading as best you can until impact.

Very nice and informative - as usual! I am looking forward to see some missions with both commander and pilot in the Gazelle. But first I would like to see a tutorial on this, including the use of intercom.

Left "G" in french is the word "Gauche". Right "D" in French in the word "Droite"

CAP, After you fire your HOT3 Missile you would mask your chopper by decreasing or increasing your elevation. Your sensor is on top of the chopper. HOT3 launcher is slightly angle upward. This one use to work with to pilots.

People! I need your help finding reliable information about the hot-3 ATGM. The company Gaijin Entertainment - intentionally reduces its specifications. Thus reducing its advantages in comparison with other ATGM
