Many thanks for your help bro, I've just bought a 93 Aero 2.8 V6, Love it, and with help from people like you, I can work on it and love it even more.

Great video. I suggest that after you take the plastic engine cover off that you put the oil filler cap back on. Don't want to be dropping parts and dirt down into the engine!

Used the video to change the coils on our 09 Aero (Poor Man's Turbo X). Thanks! PS- Also commented on another video about having problems with car not down shifting out of 6th. Change the transmission fluid and still had problem. Was told that the 2 bad coils could be causing the problem. Now that the coils are changed- no more problems shifting. Thanks again for your videos. Have saved us a bunch of $$

Terrific! I watched a tech do mine before but was still uncomfortable on changing mine. Couldn't find a video for a 2.8 L specifically but I feel much better now with this video. Thanks Saab Dr. I'll be looking forward to more of your videos.

I Purchased some SAAB OEM coolant hoses then wrapped them with aluminium insulating heat wrap tape I bought from a local AutoZone, I didn't know there was a such thing as next gen hoses but my "fix" did the trick just the same. Kind of a weird set up as far as location goes for those hoses, being right over the heat shield for the turbo but it is really the only complaint I have for the engine compartment.
@SaabDr6 жыл бұрын
Good tip. The only difference would be that the NG 9-5 hoses are a little smaller interior diameter and are a thicker rubber. Your tip could definitely help people that don't need to replace theirs quite yet.

Use silicone spray lube to lubricate hoses and mating surfaces. WD40 is a petroleum product and may damage rubber and certain plastic components.

@@SaabDr thanks for the reply, and yes, SI as God or the Enlightenment intended. :) I'm torn between the 2008+ convertible and the 9-3 Aero FWD. I'm waiting until October to see if convertible prices drop here in French Canada...the convertibles I'm meeting and wanting are all being advertised for more than $10k. That may be just "the price" but I assume the first snow will cause a less expensive one to appear in my alerts. My goal is to find something mechanically sound and in need of a little body TLC, so I can fix and repaint in my choice of colour. I'm leaning Laser Red but...whatever looks clean in the dirty snow.

Here in Wisconsin convertible prices drop in fall. We've bought 2 convertibles in the dead of winter and 1 in late fall. -- All from dealers. They know that they don't want to hold them all winter.
@acchaladka6 жыл бұрын
Saab Dr Exactly, same usually in Canada (Vancouver area excepted). I’m debating the convertible vs a new Fiat 124 roadster.
@SaabDr6 жыл бұрын
The Fiata is a very fun car, however the question is do you want a small sporty throw around car, or something a little larger and more luxurious. I'll say this -- they're two VERY different cars. I prefer the Saab Convertible for what I do (cruising around with the top down) but if you're looking for something with track car potential get the 124. -- Plus you'll save a lot of money up front with the Saab. :-)

Hey Saab Doc, awesome video, thank you for this. It's been almost 2 years, do these 9-5 hoses still seem to be holding up okay? My 9-3 has about 140K and I figure it's time I replace the hoses (i'm getting a gurgling/bubbling after I shut my engine off, so I think I have a leak somewhere.) You can get a 9-3 Aero specific set of flurosilicone hoses on ebay now, but they're $60 - your 9-5 hose solution is much cheaper. I can't decide!
@SaabDr4 жыл бұрын
I put these on two cars on the same day - my wife's Combi (in the video) and her sisters 08 Aero. Her sisters Aero had went through 4 sets of regular hoses in 2-3 years. I haven't had a single leak from either car since so I'm pleased to say that these fixed the issue.

Change the expansion tank, was recall item, they crack, be good to zoom in the parts removed on the two hard coils to get at the drivers side rear. the rest are easy.

Great video, thank you. I have an 07 9-3 2.8. I just replaced the the purge valve and it's running a lot better. However, I thought that it would fix the shuddering I'm getting when I push the throttle down about 70 percent and over. I figured I should check plugs, then coils. I purchased one plugs and a coil. Of course, the guy at autozone said the Bosch plug would be just fine. Do you see an issue using Bosch plugs over NGK (they didn't have them in stock or I would have purchased them)? Thank you again for taking the time for making these vids.

Personally I wouldn't run anything except NGK plugs, and the OE (or similar) ones.

And the parts store will recommend whatever is in stock because they have a better chance of selling you something when you're in the store. Once you leave you could buy elsewhere.

Apart from going bad, how often should you replace the ignition coils on the 2.8T?
@SaabDr5 жыл бұрын
Honestly if they aren't misfiring and you aren't going on trips or a high mileage driver just wait for them to go bad. In my wife's car and sister in laws car I like changing them at 100k just to make sure neither gets stranded.

My coolant tanks never last me more than 3years they get really brittle and sometimes the cap just breaks when I loosen it up ... I need to convert to a metal tank or the black tank that’s on that v6 Saab if possible

Saab Dr, I'm planning a 3.5k road trip on my 9-3 Aero, wondering if I should preventively replace coolant hoses given the fact that I live in Canada, where we had first snow last week. The car is in good stock shape but I don't wanna be stranded in the middle of freezing cold nowhere once I hit the highway. Thank you.

I have a nightmare story about them coolant hoses . I have a 2009 aero xwd I love it. So one day I noticed that a little bit of smoke coming out of the engine when I at a stand still. Coming from a 2004 2.0 I did not know this is a issue with the v6 saabs . I saw it leak I was like oh that’s all that should be easy . I was going to do it my self but I only had the car for a year and I financing it so I was like I should have a pro do it . Also I hate working on my car now because I live in apartment and I don’t have a garage. So I took it to a natural repair shops ( it begins with a F) first thing I did was ask if they work on saabs they said yes . Well they told me it needs a whole kit new reservoir . Well this is when the nightmare starts . They call me cars done. On my way home I did not even live 4 miles away the tank totally failed steam every where as well as coolant. Car goes right back they take a look say hmm must have been a bad part they fix it again and would you know it happened again when I picked it up. So back the shop a 3rd time I say to them you sure you guys can work on saabs . Yes they say again . This time they say you need a new pump and we will rap the hoses in heat shielding . So I pick it up drive home made it home this time . Well off to work but stoped off for pizza . I I come out my car steaming crazy like the cars on fire . Oh and would you know some stupid person freaking out call the fire and cop saying a card on fire . So all they cops and firefighters come to put out the steam ....... at this point I was ready to drive the car though the front door I was so mad . This car was kind of a dream car . I been wanting a black saab turbo from when I was a kid my neighbor had a 99 and a black 900. Turbo I be playing in my yard and think when I older I going to get one. So I took it back with AAA. Cop was cool he lol when I told him what was going on. So yeah believe it or not it happened one more time . I was so 😡 there was a different manager at the shop he shook his head end said sorry your going to have to go some place else. I was like you think . So off to the Saab dealer well service center . They told me they put a cheep Chinese part on and the wrong hoses. I called up the corporate office to complain they basically almost killed my car. Over something very simple. Few days later a regional manager calls me I tell him my story . He was not happy . He said looks like some changes are going to have to be made at this location. I told him I want a full refund. I end up getting it. I saw your video about your new 9-5 and looks like first owner mechanic broke his car. From now on I only take my Saab to the Saab service center . Have not had any problems .
@SaabDr6 жыл бұрын
Yeah it seems for some reason that the average mechanic can't figure out Saab. I always recommend if you can't work on the car yourself to take it to a Saab Service Center or well known Saab Independent shop. Best of luck with your 09. Our combi is actually an 08 XWD 6-speed manual trans Aero. Love that car.
