Well, it took this 58 year old body a little more than 5 minutes to do this, but thanks for the great video. Extremely helpful. I ended up putting my phone on selfie mode to see what the heck was going on up there. Wearing a tight fitting work glove also helped compress that bad boy in there. Hopefully, I won't be needing to do that again though. THANKS!

Just happened to me last night - 2003 9-3 Arc. Downshifting into 2nd and suddenly this spring falls out and is laying on the floor of the driver footwell in pieces. Very helpful video to understand what happened! Thanks for making this video.

It's enough to make you want to hunt down the guy who designed it, and give him a piece of your mind! 😡

I got my saab 9 months ago and about 6 months ago I was cleaning my car and found the spring under my driver seat. I thought it was just some odd thing left from a previous owner and tossed it. Since then I have noticed alot of play in my clutch and a lot of times it will return a little over half way and I reposition with my foot. Scared my clutch was about to drop I got online and after watching this video and crawling behind my pedal I saw the broken yellow clip and of course no spring, guess I've gotta by both. Also makes sense how my cruise doesn't work. I too travel at least 600 miles a week. Very helpful and thanks for the content!

This video was very helpful, thank you very much! This spring fell from under the clutch pedal while I was releasing the pedal in my 2007 9-3. I have prepared myself for emergency stop, but nothing bad happened. I then tested the pedal and did not notice any difference in press/depress behavior, so I never bothered to stop. That spring must have been an extra part since lack of it went unnoticed (j/k). By the time I got home, I forgot of that spring since my driving wasn't affected. I guess SAAB designed their cars the same was as they design their planes - ensuring the safety through redundancy of systems :-) .

A great video which explains perfectly how to replace the parts. ESaabparts have it in stock priced at 8.51 but they want 75.00 to ship it to France !!!!

Great video. I think it should also be noted to be very careful installing this piece. If you push the clutch up too forcefully, you can break the cruise control relay switch that engages the cc. It's best to remove the relay switch first from it's mount then install the spring helper as I learned this the hard way. Cheers!

So a about 1/2 of a inch of play's normal?

So, a couple of quick tips: First, make sure you grease both ends of the spring assembly (where it slides against the clutch pedal and where it slides against the metal insert in the yellow clip). This way, the yellow clip will last longer. Second, you kind of did this the hard way. By far the easiest way to get the spring in is to first put the yellow clip into place, then put the top end of the spring into the yellow clip, then DEPRESS THE CLUTCH ALL THE WAY and slide the other end of the spring assembly onto the clutch pedal. With the clutch depressed fully, you have way more clearance to get the spring in without needing to compress it nearly as much. This probably matters more if you're putting in a new spring assembly, rather than re-using your old one, which will be a bit weaker than a brand new one.

I just replaced my helper spring yellow clip which failed at 185k miles. The tip from @akahan1 worked well. I installed the yellow clip into its bracket, then inserted the spring into that end. I used a long bar and a small block of wood to wedge the clutch pedal in the depressed position. With the pedal depressed, it was easier (but still tricky) to compress the spring in order slide the other end onto the clutch pedal.

I had the same problem in my Opel Vectra C. The moment of work and the fault was removed, just like you had a small yellow plastic burst in my mouth. Greetings from Poland.

Mine is broken on my 2004 93. Can someone tell me how to remove the panel under the steering wheel properly before I use a broad axe where I should be using a scalpel. Also any tips on wiggling my 60 year old head under there so I don't need paramedics to get me out 😄😄😄. All advice appreciated, sane advice followed. Thx

Instead of buying this yellow clip you can just 3d print it just like I did. Original price of this flimsy yellow part is just outrageous. I got like 5 printed (cost me few euros at a local 3d shop) and replace them as they eventualy break again. You can easily find 3d model online just google opel/saab clutch spring return clip. Just make sure to print it with grain going perpendicular to the breaking point which is in the middle. Also its way easier to install the spring with clutch depressed.

Interesting. That's a good alternative to those that have the means/access to a 3D printer. Thanks!

I believe that yellow clip is the same for the Vectra C. Saab part number is 12800290 www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.ebay.com/itm/OPEL-VAUXHALL-SIGNUM-VECTRA-C-SAAB-9-3-CLUTCH-PEDAL-RETURN-SPRING-CLIP-/222755290024&ved=2ahUKEwjGjuXe8t3mAhXEAZ0JHcvvAHkQjjgwCnoECAkQAg&usg=AOvVaw1YRQafsjDK2kvkC7gvLco6&cshid=1577727096800
