Saab 9-5 ignition switch fix

Ignition switch broke and after starting the car key stayed on ''START'' position and starter motor stayed engaged. I could manually turn key to ''ON'' position , but there still was risk that i will burn starter out. Had spare switch and 2-3 free hours. Now it is like new.

Really helpful, didn't have exactly the same in my car couple extra screws, but 90% there and much more than I could have figured out on my own!

Is there anyway I can identify if this switch is broken before taking it out? I cannot lock the car from remote, and radio doesn't stop playing when I take the key out. I've noticed when I am taking key out the ring barely move up

That would be key barrel problem. it should be easier to remove and clean.

When you pulled the rear console up and off did you break anything? Mine is half off. Can't get it over the duct correctly without completely removing it. Afraid of breaking the plastic.

try pulling it stright up, there shouldnt be problem

Do you happen to know if that switch is also on a manual drive of this same vehicle? Mine also stays in start and won't move to lock, but the lock cylinder works fine when I take it out of the car. But when it's in the car, it won't move. from start to lock.

manual cars need to put in reverse and then you can put in lock

Hi. Thank you for the video. it helps a lot! Can you tell if the broken metal piece can be repaired ? In my case the key goes all way to the right (engine is starting) and seems the spring is not moving it back to ON position but I can move it to ON manually. I hope a new ignition lock fixes it.

i couldn't repair, it was too small. i had the same problem and only fix was ignition switch change

Y’all I gotta a question please help so my ignition stop spinning from no where then I decide TO buy another I don’t yet but,if I buy a new ignition with a TWICE CONTROL UNIT and matched key i don’t have to program nothing it’s just already matched right or I still have to program the key

i think that you will need to programm twice module to car. But what did you mean by "stop ignition from no where"?

i think you can just take out key barrel and clean it, they tend to get sticky.
