It is such a shame that SAAB didn't survive simply the greatest cars ever manufactured! I strongly believe if the new 9-5 been made available earlier, and the same with the new 9-3 that the whole outcome could been different. I wish the brand could rise from the ashes.

Unfortunately they didn’t have a chance. GM sold all their tooling and licenses to Chinese companies so that when they cut Saab loose they didn’t have anything. They had to start from the ground up, like design or source a new engine (GM sold the rights and tooling of Saab’s engine that Saab had developed and used for over 30 years), design/source a new chassis, design/source a new body style, etc. etc., and then get tooling for all of that and manufacture it. If the Swedish government had elected to bail them out they would have had the capital to do it.

@michaeljohnson1006 They got shipments of parts from GM, a lot of those Saabs were made alongside other GM models in Mexico or something. Only about the last two years would fall into that category, but the 9-3 was always almost 100% GM from the beginning. The old 9-5 models still had lots of Saab. GM sold everything off starting around 2008. Some people think they really bought Saab to acquire their many patents.

go to KZbin "inside Saab 2012 9-5 crash test" this is a 1:21 minute video on the crash test of a 2012 SPORT COMBI not the sedan. They say 22 separate crash tests are to be performed. I take that to mean up to 22 cars to be destroyed.

I am shaking uncontrollably! A proper investor has a real chance to revive this brand - such just has to show good faith and commitment to the Swedish car maker peculiarities and its fans. These cars are incredibly modern and beautiful! Add a brand new 9-3 design and you have a complete range of products! You will have a 9-5 Sedan, 9-5 Sportcombi, 9-3 Sedan, 9-3 Sportcombi, 9-3 sports convertible, 9-4X and 9-4XL. I still believe in SAAB!

Any profitable car biz cannot be one where the maker has "peculiarities". Saab only survived as long as it did by making rational decisions, not peculiar ones.

@@18_rabbit , how wrong you are! First of all, peculiarity does not mean irrational! The fact that one decides to do things differently, does not make them irrational! If everyone wanted any run of the mill car, then we can all buy Toyotas and GM. There is a reason why Subaru is a small profitable and strong car manufacturing company. No one buys BMW because it feels and drives like a Toyota. There is a reason why people choose to buy Italian cars or even a Citroen. Irrationality may not be welcome in the Automotive business (as in any other business), however peculiarities are always distinguishing and rewarding. That is what is called character!

Autohaus Lafrentz have worked very hard on getting a MOT for this cars beacuse of no papers excisted when Saab went bankcrupt. Also sold with the intention as a museum object luckily it turned out they could pass legislation thanks to E.U laws. The Norwegian also had a special permit thanks to the uniqueness of it.

A very nice video collection of rare machines. 8:09 The building on the left with Christian Crosses in the window is a Great Germany architecture design structure that somehow survived Kiel's WW2 deprivations. Perhaps also the barn-like structure at 10:12 further outside Kiel. With their Historic Building preservation laws hopefully it will be saved. I see the contrast between the buildings and Saabs as a contrast between some fads of the old and the new. 40:04 Laser Red. The late 2010/2011 9-5 Sedan "last body style" had 2 laser red out of 3419 made for the U.S. per esaabparts.com/saab/production/data/9-5_2010_2011.php This 2012 laser red Combi might have been the only one painted in this color out of 32-35 made. If you have the money it's like collecting rare postage stamps - you can't stop at just one!

Yes it's amazingly sad how much was destroyed during the war and Kiel was of such naval interest so prime target. Yes 10:12 is when we are touring outside Kiel. It's fantastic to see the old buildings. Yes that's correct the only one :o Great investment. Thanks for watching :) Regards Marcus
