I've always loved the original Saab 900, I've owned quite a few examples including two the same colour as your car ❤

I have several Saab 900 Turbo, 8V and 16V. Concerning the power: For the early 900 T8V and also the 99 T there was an optional water injection system you could order, making the 145 HP 8V Turbo to deliver 180 HP. In 85/86 you could order a very rare Sport exhaust System with a stainless steel endpipe (similar but not identical to the still available simons). The silencer was parallel to the axle but not feedet like the original T-Pott. With this very nice sounding sport exhaust the 8V-Turbo felt more powerfull and Saab spoke about additional 10 HP. There was never a Red-Box for the 8V that was later available for the 16V (depending on fuel pressure regulater and distributor) delivering 170 to 185 HP. If you want to get more power out of your 8V Turbo it needs lots of adjustment of the K-Jet that the engine doesn´t run lean on the german autobahn at Vmax. With the right combination of Pistons (non APC) or smoothend Cylinderhead, APC-Cam and correctly adjusted APC-System and a Do88 Intercooler, you may convince the 8V Turbo to deliver 180 HP. But in my opinion this engine is a diva, mainly because of the K-Jet! My advice: Check Valve adjustments (this head has no Hydro lifter), it needs precise K-Jet adjustments and ignition adjustements and 98 Octane (even if APC allowes you less!) - if all this is done, the Diva maybe delivers the promissed 155 HP.

Yesssss! I knew the old girl wouldn't let you down. Love the way you tricked the ECU into helping get more fuel into the injectors. Very well done!

Hello from England. A proper Saab... know the experts are going to say remove KE pump and injectors...clean/rebuild/replace. But with an almost empty fuel tank is it worth running some over strong injector cleaner through it
@geezerdiamond2 жыл бұрын
Excellent stuff! So great to hear it running 😃
@Aquarious2 жыл бұрын
Congrats on making it run! I have a 900 T8 too that was standing for 14 years, we cleaned the whole fuel system by putting several parts into an ultrasonic cleaner. Right now it finally runs well, especially when warmed up. The K-Jet engines have a fifth injector that adds extra fuel for the cold start. Check if that one isn't clogged up since that will make cold starts very hard. Also check the fuel accumulator near the fuel tank, that was leaking on my car which made it stupidly hard to start and keep running since it couldn't keep the pressure up. I'd also advice to get some new fuel lines from the K-Jet unit to the injectors. They get old and snap easily because of it, you can buy braided sets to replace them, looks good too! :)
@smoooth74292 жыл бұрын
My Volvo also has Bosch kjets, wonder if those braided options are available for the system in my car 😅. Do you have any links? Maybe I can go down to the warehouse at ipd and see if we can find something.

@@smoooth7429 Just noticed that my other comment got removed which included the link. Look up "Saab 900 fuel injector hose kit" and you'll find the braided ones.

Clean the injectors. You might need a new fuel pump. Measure the fuel pressure. Could be low. Great to see you getting this old Saab running. Looking forward to the next video.

It also needs air.. open gas valve, fuel will come.. Bosch k jetronic. Ps make sure the air system between regulator and intake is fully sealed. No leaks!

Very cool to see you get it running. K-jet doesn't like sitting at all, especially nowadays that we have ethanol in our fuels. E0 98 is a must for a turbo classic, otherwise performance will be bad and it will knock a lot (I fitted a LED in the dash from the APC knock light output). I recommend you get a pressure washer and get rid of all that crap on the engine and body so it would be more enjoyable to work on. Try to read up on how the K-jet works, it is pretty simple and foolproof once you understand it and have a pressure gauge. Yours will probably want a through fuel system clean and the pressures checked with a k-jet pressure gauge.

100oktane is in the tank atm. :) I know a bit about the k-jet from other cars a worked on... but its awhile back now... :)

Nice rumble. Do you use octane 100? A good service clean additive might loosen the injectors up. Before concluding on it.
@SeasideGarage2 жыл бұрын
Yes e5 and 100 octane.. But the clever thing with the saab APC system is that it can run at low octane fuel as well... really a cool system
