Because of technical difficulties and overwhelming event, a lot was not captured for this video. But I tried to take advantage of the situation with David Snider and salvage what I have here for footage. Im glad I had the opportunity to converse with him, he taught me many great things about the 99 that I didnt previously know about!
If you have any questions for David or are inquire a vehicle purchase, you can find his contact information on Rocky Mountain Saab Club. Go to www.rockymtnsaa...
Be sure to check out our linked facebook group SAABS OF AMERICA. Lets continue to grow this community!

Oh man...I just love classic SAABS. These cars are so unique. To this day, there has been nothing built quite like a SAAB in my opinion. A car truly in a class of it's own.

I just love to hear again, that SAAB 99 motor sound. SAAB 99 was my first car, that car was go everywhere, like a train, handling was hard, because there wasn't any help like modern cars have power steering. It was very easy to repair and because my father was mecanic by professional job, we usually doing some maintenance at family garage. Only big issue was rust and plenty of it. That need at the time so much welding and money, but we make our SAAB back road again, tme after time. What I can say, I miss my first car. Thank you for shearing this video and making me again memorylane to remember my youth.

The 1977 Saab 99 EMS was my first car. I bought it used with 59,000 miles for $3,000, in 1983. It had some rust in the door, and so I bought a used door and had the whole thing sprayed in metallic red Imron paint. I took it everywhere, from Ny to Wyoming, California, and back, including an unplanned trip to a dude ranch. It was an exciting car to drive, had an ice age level AC, was easy to work on. One time, in Fairmont, MN, I was crossing a railroad track, and one of the shocks broke free from the mount. Mine was, unfortunately one of the ones that sat out in the weather at Trollhattan. So I drove it into a muffler shop, asked the guy to arc weld it back on, and it was good for another 60k before it needed reinforcement. It was a great time in my life and a great car! If they made one today, Id be the first in line to buy it.

Very nice to see some 99 love out there :) because everyone goes for Classics as either 2-stroke SAABs or then a c900 preferably SPG. Why 99 (and 90, respectively) has less love, I don't get. However let's make some facts straight. Saab introduced CombiCoupe body style to 99 when they made a 99 Turbo version in 1978, but that was not the only year for 99 Turbo. It was the only year for 99 Turbo with CombiCoupe body style though, becase this was now only dedicated to c900. However 99 Turbo was still made with it's classic "tudor" style of body after 1978.

Go Dave! Another clarification on the 99 body styles: The 99 3-door Combi Coupe (called Wagonback in the US market) was introduced in 1974, and the 99 5-door in 1977. I think, but am not 100% sure, that 99/90 hatchbacks were no longer offered from 1979 forward once the 900 was introduced. As for the Turbo, about 100 test cars (some 3-door, some 2-door) were built in 1977 based on the 1977 99 EMS (they had soccer ball wheels and "Turbo" decals rather than badges among other unique features). Those 100 cars were sold after testing was finished and there are a few still in existence. The 99 Turbo entered production in 1978. About 4400 3-door 1978 cars came to the US. Production of the 99 Turbo as a 2-door continued in Europe in 1979 and 1980 with a grand total of about 10,000 cars produced over the three years (of a total over all the years of a bit less than 700,000 99s). A very unique Turbo model was a 5-door 1978 - only about 100 examples were built, only in RHD for the UK market.

I was lucky enough to have silver 75 Saab 99 ems with a factory sunroof. Regret selling it everyday.... Five speed was my dream upgrade. That said it was a California car with a milled, ported, and polished head with header pipes and a balanced crank shaft. Thing was a beast but passing smog tests was not happening. Because it had that lame ass pump system. Had work arounds, but being a young dumb kid in the 80's I sold it to get a new Toyota 4x4. Everything said about the 900's is true. They needed more room. But the 99 is my all time favorite.

Great video, but not entirely correct as SAAB did fit a turbo in to a 99 2 door in 1980.
