Just a heads up for those in the USA...Saab didn't come out with Bluetooth in the US market until 2009.
@CycloneCyd5 жыл бұрын
Hi Benjamin, thanks for watching and for the new info. I'm UK based but I've received conflicting advice about this feature in the US. I've previously been told it was never available in the US, but it's good to know it was available from 2009. I also wonder, if you have a US 2007/8 car and can get a 2nd hand Bluetooth module from Europe (or buy a new spare, though they are pricey) could it be fitted and programmed in ('turned on' with Tech2)?? Also, what is the legal position on using a mobile whilst driving in the US these days? Am I correct in believing it is still legal in some states?
@sixersfan105.5 жыл бұрын
Sure thing. Yes, it was a standard feature stateside from 2009 through 2011. You are correct that 2007 and 2008 vehicles can also be retrofitted with the official Bluetooth module. That said, you're almost better off putting in an aftermarket head unit radio/nav/Bluetooth etc. with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto built-in, but I suppose that's a matter of opinion. Cell phone driving laws vary from state to state but at this point, most require the use of a Bluetooth or other "hands-free" device to talk while driving. In some states, police can pull you over if they see you holding a cell phone while driving, while in other states, it is considered a secondary offense.
@CycloneCyd5 жыл бұрын
@@sixersfan105. Hi Benjamin, thanks for the comprehensive reply, that's really useful to know and I'm sure it'll help out others. Yeah, it's touch and go whether to retrofit or go for a head unit. Depends which OE head unit you have and whether you can get a Bluetooth module at a reasonable price. Here in the UK and across most of Europe, simply holding a mobile in your hand will net you a fine and points. Using a phone as sat-nav (or music source) is ok as long as it's in a cradle. There are no specific rules on placement so you see numb-skulls with it right in the middle of the screen, but this is likely to net you fine/points for "driving without due care" as we call it.
@sixersfan105.5 жыл бұрын
Happy to help. Yeah, cradles are permitted in the US, too. It's easy to find an aftermarket head unit that "plays nice" with Saabs from 2007 to 2011 because they are essentially standard GM wiring. But I know lots of people would prefer to keep their Saabs OEM/stock, which is understandable.

Sharon Tente-Clarke The concept I have developed behind including printed pages in my videos is that when a viewer needs to read the information, they can simply pause the video for as long as they need. This achieves a number of objectives: # the video is shorter overall but with a high informational content # it saves on data download usage for phone viewers # it allows the viewer to copy the data by [full] screen printing # the viewer can pick and choose the info that's relevant to them # the viewer is 'rescued' from listening to me prattle on. It takes a surprising amount of time and effort to produce these videos and it is primarily a 'hobby' for me. Printed screens reduce the total effort required on my part to produce the video. This in turn allows me to produce more videos on more subjects within my limited spare time. Do let me know what information you particularly need that isn't already included and I am happy to make a short supplementary video showing the relevant pages.

Howdy E-Series, welcome aboard. AFAIK the Bluetooth option was never fitted to US version from the factory. It was an option for Euro cars only, though you've probably got the same steering wheel with the phone buttons (all Euro cars did too even though few had Bluetooth). On Euro cars, the harnessing is all there and so you can fit a Bluetooth module (behind side trim in boot) and activate it via Tech2. I don't know if this is the case with US versions - I rather doubt it, but it's worth a look (the 2007 US handbook makes no mention of phone functionality). If the harness is there, you'll need to source a module either new or 2ndhand probably from someone in Europe.
