In this video I give a full in depth tour and test drive of a 2007 Mazda RX-8. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration with a full test drive over various road scenarios you might encounter during daily driving. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

Rx8 is great. I own one and I literally love it. It all depends on what you're looking for in a car. The Rx8's major drawback is gas. It gets about 19-24mpg with a healthy ignition system and drops as plugs, coils, and wires wear. That's about the only thing worth mentioning. There is also special maintenance which most people bitch about being too hard when in reality it's fairly easy. This maintenance cannot go ignored or else you'll screw your engine to hell. Other than that, I love my car.

I would stay away from this car as your first car unless you do your research. Its a great car, but the maintenance is more frequent than regular cars, plus you dont know if the previous owner took car of it properly (oil changes every 3k miles, changing spark plugs, wires and coils every 20k-30k, red lining it etc.)

i've driven my friends rx8 a few times. im definitely with you on power, it really feels like shit at low RPM especially when trying to pass another car in 4th or 5th but i think the 50/50 weight distribution and sharp handling make up for it.

This car is fun to ride in. My parents have one, a winning blue 2004, with an '07 engine. The '04s had recalls on them. We went from like 70-100 in about 5 seconds and for an auto that's good for having only 200hp. The stick makes 250hp. Only bad thing about our rx-8 is that the manual mode has nearly a 2 second shift delay. Not good

just thought I would point out, the manual may be a tiny bit better on fuel but, the difference in sound would be minuscule seeing as the sound comes from the exhaust. True manuals may be more fun, however there is little to no difference in automatic cars to manual cars in an average any day car.

Gman my insurance counted it as a 4 door so I got a pretty good deal with insurance. I've had the car for 2+ years now with no issues. Just make sure you give the car a proper warm up and make sure oil levels stay as recommended as the car burns oil over time.

@defryer1 Its a rotary engine, you have to let it warm up. Its kind of like a diesel motor, so you do not wanna turn on the car and turn it back off right away because it can flood the motor. Rotary cars will last if maintain well but many people dont know how to take care of their rotary motors.

If only they had a high revving 4cyl motor in this, 200-240 hp, around 24-26k dollars, would make it more viable as a daily driver. Nowadays I think people dont want to deal with the quirks that this engine brings maintenance wise, kinda sad really this is such a beautiful car.

@casp3rization in essence ferrari does have manual transmission. just not in the strictest sense. their transmissions are called automated manuals. ( has gears) automatics are clutches. a series of them. people want manuals on sports cars like this. michael schumacher knows how to drive a manual transmission equipped vehicle :) some people nowadays refuse to elarn manual transmission. even though it takes all of 5 minutes to learn

Yes they are a fun car to drive and they sure are smooth, I'm an ex RX8 owner ( I have a 2011 Gen Coupe 2.0T now ). Want to buy one of these RX8's ? the Vancouver area is loaded with them ( 41 to be exact ) the dealers will take any reasonable offer to unload them. Example : 2011 RX8 with only 18,000 km. full extended warranty, asking $ 23,900.00 offer them $ 20k. and it's yours. There has to be a reason why there are so many used ones and why can't the dealers sell them ??

@museken There is a night and day difference between the two cars. The tiburon is a fun sporty little car but the rx8 is much more fun. The handling is much tighter and more importantly it's RWD. The renesis engine is a joy to drive as it revs to infinity and beyond. The car is more practical because of the rear half-doors. The rx8 is more then a whole second quicker in the quarter mile aswell and on a road course will eat the little tibby for breakfast. The only downside to the rx8 is the mpg

Actually if you get hit by a bus in the UK it is a little under 50/50 that it will be a manual. Also manula will give better fuel consumption cos you can have the rpm lower but in a higher gear whereas the automatic will just give you a gear to do the speed in and the manual will give higher power, generally speaking not always the case.

Manual isn't stone age. It's not an outdated system, its simply one that isn't ideal for areas with high traffic. However, anywhere without traffic a stick shift is a million time better. Theres a certain feeling of being connected with the car that you can only get with a clutch. It actually takes skill to drive a manual, and the feeling of a perfect downshift or launch is unparalleled. To sum it up, sure an automatic tranny is simpler but if you want to really drive a car use a stick.

What sort of transmission did Mazda pair with this rotary? Honda used their own style of transmission for several reasons but one of them was that they found traditional planetary auto's don't operate well at very high RPM. I can imagine the torque multiplication from the torque converter would be useful and pleasant with a rotary as a daily driver

( high rev keep the car more balance and peek power. people with different preference on the power on a turn so you can shift at what rpm you desire) also, manual tranny are lighter and more solid than auto. they said, GTR tranny are common fail one hard use when on track. two cent

The RX-8 wants to be driven hard. At least once a week you want to take it on the interstate and just gun it at least hit the 900RMP (manual) once or twice. You are going to want to replace the radiator with an after marking one. The stock radiator isn't very good. I own a '04 grand touring and my brother owns a '07 speed edition and both our cars needed to have the radiators replaced

True, but with the case of the RX8 I can't possibly justify getting anything other than the standard 6 speed tranny... The auto redlines at 7500. The whole fun of the rotary engine is revving the hell out of it. And it loses almost 50 HP in the auto version. The rotary engine is a different beast.
