I watched this quite some time ago, and as I was watching your "Spool Tag Charms" video, I had to pause and re-watch this, just love this tutorial 💜 I had just learned how to rust paperclips, safety pins, etc and came across this, so I now have a jar and spray bottle with rust water, ready to use. I've been onion skin and coffee dying recently, we had a few nice days between the snow last week so I hung the paper to dry on the clothes line, lol. Todays high will be 75 F, storms, high winds, and tornado warnings tonight, tomorrow in the 20's F with up to 3" of snow possible, yep, let the good times roll, lol. Today I'm finishing up the dye I made from blackberries, and will spray some rust water on them, over stencils and see what I get. When I spray over coffee dyed paper I get darker purple areas, love it!! Ok, have to finish the Spool Tag video, and apparently I missed a video on making stamps, yikes!!! I need to get to that, as I love the envelopes you made using them 💜💜💜

Thank you so much for watching and sharing your experience with dyes with me. I haven’t tried blackberry dye yet, but now that you mentioned it, I am thinking about looking for some in the freezer section of the supermarket 😁. This topic is fascinating, I diligently save all packaging for cutting it one day with Sizzix. But it never occurred to me to back the packaging up with décor paper or paint it before cutting. 19:20 Painting rust water through stencils and leaving the stencils on for a couple of hours sounds so interesting, calls for immediate action (already ordered rusted stuff from my husband, he will look in the garage/basement). 20:50, 20:25 Panting white through stencils, then drying, then applying rust water sounds even more interesting. 30:55 And also the reverse -Rust-Dry-White through stencils. 35:45 I should also start using this packaging for picking paint from my stencils instead of simply washing them. 41:42: to stamp with the whole collection on the original packaging for backgrounds would never occur to me either. I am taking notes on all this, definitely going to repeat all this!

You completely inspired me to do this because I have SO many packages I need to either recycle or use them for this. I have just one question about the rust water: do you smell the vinegar smell after the rust water dries on the packaging? If so, does it ever go away? I like the fact that it darkens as it dries and I love the rust color. I’m just not a fan of vinegar smell (or instant coffee-stained paper either for that matter). 🥴🤷🏻♀️ But if it fades drastically in a short amount of time then I could be persuaded to make it and use it. Thanks so much again for such awesome inspiration. I still have many other choices I can use for dye so I’m certainly gonna do this. In fact I’ve already gesso’d a small batch already along with tea stained some of them as well. Im on to the stamping bit now. 🤗👍🏻👍🏻😎

I'm really glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you so much for watching 😊❤️ In regards to rust water, the first time I used it was for eco printing and I never strained the liquid part from the rust bits when it was ready. I noticed the papers had a strong metal smell, not so much vinegar, but it was unpleasant to me. However, for this project, I used rust that I strained a year ago, and most of the tiny iron particles settled on the bottom of the jar. I also tested it and decided to add more water to have a lighter color. I noticed that the smell was barely noticeable, and by the time everything dried, it was almost completely gone. 😊

Hi I love your videos. only just found you and you have some great content. I have made some rust water, via your instructions but I have hit a problem, I cannot stand the smell of vinegar. lol I just had a tiny go as it is already to go, did the sample about 2 hours ago and if it put it up to my nose I can smell the vinegar. Will this mean my journals will smell of vinegar? If I were to leave them out in the sun and breeze, would that get rid of the smell?. Or could I make rust water without the vinegar, would I get the same effect? I love how the colour turned out and your right, you only need to stroke it onto the paper and let the magic happen and it went to a beautiful colour. I would say better than the tea and coffee method. Thank you for your wonderful videos. ❤❤❤

I noticed the papers had a strong metal smell, not so much vinegar, or perhaps both, but it was very unpleasant to me. However, for this project, I used rust that I strained a year ago. I also added more water to have a lighter color. I noticed that the smell was barely noticeable, and by the time everything dried, it was almost completely gone. My guess is that vinegar smell goes away after some time. In your case, the rust is probably fresh and vinegar smell is strong. You can add more water to it and leave the jar open for a few days, perhaps vinegar smell will be gone or not so strong. It's also a good idea to leave the papers you already stained to air a bit. Someone else said something in the comments about using something to cover the smell. I haven't tried making rust without vinegar, perhaps it's possible, it might take longer. If you try let us know if it's succesful ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you so much for this series! I have a problem/question: I ended up spraying a fixative on my pieces because my hands were getting dusty with iron rust. Did this happen for you?
@Saacibo Жыл бұрын
Hi Jenny! I remember when I used rust for the first time, I used it straight from the jar with all the rusty pieces still inside, and my papers were covered with what looked like glitter in some areas. It felt rough when touched. This time, however, as soon as my rust formed in the jar I strained the liquid and placed it into a clean container. Remaining small particles settled on the bottom after a few days, and every time I used the rusty water I tried not to disturb the bottom sludge. Also, if the rust is too concentrated, you can add some water to it. I hope this helps 😊❤️

are the stamps subject to copywrite limitations or can you use them to sell items you make with them
@Saacibo4 ай бұрын
You can use stamps to decorate unique physical items that you sell, such as journals. If you create a piece of art or collage, then scan it and resell in a digital format, I would say no, unless, the image from the stamp was not copyrighted. In any case I wouldn’t mass produce anything with image from that stamp. Hope this helps 😊

Waste of time because I wanted to see how you were gonna hide the store advertising side, not the plain side. Is that addressed here
@Saacibo Жыл бұрын
Yes, I glue things on the side with advertising, unless it's not visible or needed. Sometimes I peel it off, too. This is shown in the second part of the video. You can do this technique on the advertising side, too. I just don't like the fact that it's usually so glossy, and sanding it makes too much dust.
