Lovely and so true to the art. Really like watching and your explanations too. I followed your DIY gelli plate recipe and had the same problem of colours not mixing on the plate...so I'm relieved to know it happens to you too

Glad it was helpful. I prefer to mix colors on a palette ( in this case acetate sheet) and apply with the brayer. It gives a better control and results. Home made gelli plates are a bit more absorbent than the store bought ones, so adding paint directly to the gelli results in splotches and uneven coverage 😊❤️

I use fabric paints or screen printing inks rather than acrylic paints and no brayer. It's much easier to get good even coverage using sponges to apply the inks on homemade gel plates. The gel has a much spongier and more absorbent surface than the hard slick commercial silicone plates (which work better with paints and brayers). Homemade plates print fabrics waaaay better than the commercial silicone plates. The fabric surface prints better on the spongey plate rather than the hard commercial plate. You can also iron freezer paper to the back of your fabric to stiffen it so it's easier to print like paper

That first one you did off-camera where you mixed the colors on the plate looks vaguely plaid to me and I think it's wonderful because of that. I love them all, even the one that was mostly black looks sort of camouflaged.
@Saacibo Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you like them! I love the first one too. It looks almost abstract and colors are vivid. I'm contemplating cutting out the black leaves on the one that turned really dark. Perhaps place a different fabric underneath, stitch around leaves and then cut out. 🤔

How do you clean your plate to put away? Also, it may look cool to use a Posco white paint pen over your dark leaves. Love seeing this process!

I clean my plate with wet wipes. White paint pen would look nice over the dark leaves. Thank you😊❤️

Love the textured leaves prints congratulations My understanding, and experience, is that you have to 'prime' your gelli plate each session because it can dry out between sessions. So pulling a few background prints initially might eliminate paint splotching? Thanks for sharing & cheers from Australia 🐨 🐾

Thank you so much! Yes, I agree with you. A few prints need to be done before you start printing, especially on a homemade gel plate. It's way more absorbent than the store bought one.

Beautiful! I’m struggling with my homemade gel plate. Did you condition it with mineral/baby oil before using? And am I ‘unconditioning’ it by using a Clorox wipe to clean it occasionally?
@Saacibo Жыл бұрын
I never used baby oil to condition it. I would just pull a few plain prints first before I start the actual process. I always clean it with wet wipes when I'm done. If it's dry I spray some water and wipe.
