Amazing cover by Sabaton. The original is awesome too, a bit more "naked" with Lemmy singing with that touch of despair as if he was portraying a young soldier. Love Sabaton, and next friday me & my 13 yr old son will see them on tour i Stockholm, Sweden. Great reaction, thank you!

As people have stated in the comments, this is a cover of a Motörhead song. The two guys standing in the doorway at 8:53 are Mikkey Dee and Phil Campbell, the drummer and the guitarist of Motörhead. The picture they are carrying is of Lemmy Kilmister, the bassist, and singer of Motörhead. All the different soldiers are nods to songs about other wars and people that sabaton have done songs about before If you want an awesome live song with Sabaton you should react to en livstid i krig (a lifetime of war) live Scandinavium Gothenburg. The album they had released during that time is about a part of Swedish history called the era of great power (stormaktstiden in Swedish) when Sweden was one of the ruling powers. It was released with both a Swedish and English version (the Swedish telling the story more from our/a Swedish soldier's view while the English are more from an outsider's view. It is the Swedish version in the clip so be sure that the subtitles are on, I was at that show and all I can say is that you won't regret it.

The girl coming out from the alley looking at the planes is one of the Night Witches. They were not allowed to fly in the Soviet victory parade because their planes were so slow but in this video they get their moment. The biplanes in the end shall probably refer to Red Barons unit Jasta 11 and immediately after them Ye Olde Pub from No bullets fly makes a flyby. You maybe noted the convertible car? That's the car where Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo. So many references to other Sabaton songs with all the characters too.

While I had heard of Sabaton, this was my first experience of them. An excellent cover and video, with a lovely touch to have the surviving members of Motorhead do a cameo, with the photo of Lemmy. As a song I prefer the simpler starker Motorhead original, but I'm so glad to have discovered this version. You should react to that version too. The youngest war 12 years old. Unfortunately he was shot at dawn for desertion. Having served myself for over 20 years in the British Army and after I retired took up work as an Educational Officer at a Military Museum. Re-telling the story of these young men who went to what is called the Great War, we have a trench made to show the conditions that they lived in. Yes, I wear the uniform of the period. But, add my own experience into the story. They lied about their ages because they came from the industrial areas of the UK at the time. They did not have birth certificates at the time. And there living conditions at home were terrible. In the Army they had 3 meals per day, plus pay. Which to some was more than they had at home.

The "boys" of 16 yrs old in 1914 were'nt the 16 year old children of today. They'd probably been working behind a farm horse, digging coal or some other physically demanding jobs for years and they were simply beardless men brought up on the legends of Waterloo, Agincourt and saw nothing but the glory of the tin on the chests of the old timers. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them

Absolutely love them. They are fun, humble and pay credit to anyone they sing, write or talk about. 1916 is just one example. They would never have done a cover, let alone a video of it without honoring Mikey, Phil, Lemmy and motörhead as a whole. One of my other favorites, a Japanese rock band called the GazettE presently lost their bassist. (Stage name Reita, birth name Akira Suzuki)... I still think it was a self checkout because a few hours before it was announced that he passed he posted on x something along the line 'I hope the gazette will never be forgotten / alway be remembered'... Sabaton helps a lot. Even when we lost Chester Bennington.😢

Thanks for your respectful reaction, and as mentioned, always let the video go to the end:) As for the Battle of the Somme, in France around this area, there are so many battlefields and graveyards: This war, and the second, are still very much a part of this land. Read about Verdun too. Just terrible. btw, JRR Tolkien was from the northern part of England, educated in Birmingham. He was part of the Pals Battalions, and was at the Battle of the Somme from the first day. So, we see the inspiration for the four Hobbit friends, and one or more of the terrible battles in Lord of the Rings.

First off thank you for watching the entire video. Not only do you gather more info about the battle, but also any tributes and the people involved in project. This isn’t just a band it’s an army of people that work on these. Also I feel it’s respectful to those being sung about. Second, thanks for educating your viewers. This isn’t just any band and their messages are important!! My thoughts. Freedom is not a lifetime guarantee!! Some still don’t have it today. Debts owed to those that came before us are huge, and those debts are accumulated and passed on generation to generation. Why?? Because we don’t learn 😢 think of Ukraine. there are large powers in this world that can turn their attention to any of our countries tomorrow and it will be our families/friends in the pages of history. Not a single country in the world has not been scarred by war, and it will happen again. the hate and misery that’s inflicted on others in every country is disgusting. Never mind the hate from country to country. The way we treat our military when they come home is disgusting and we should be ashamed!! Our government’s should be ashamed, but they’re not. So donate, volunteer to the vets in your area if you can. Let them know they are not forgotten by everyone. Just because our powers that be are shitty doesn’t mean we have to be. Love to all that serve or have served ❤ sorry about the rant.
