========= A Ghost in the Trenches LYRICS =========
Move between the lines, a soldier breaking the confines
A force deployed from overseas, a war in foreign land await the eager recruits
And in their midst, among the men, a soldier with a different past return to his roots
Into battle, the gas has them pinned
Then this soldier invoke the spirits of the wind
Under fire, a ghost that roams the battlefield
Move between the lines, a soldier breaking the confines
Just another
Man and rifle, a marksman and a scout revealed
Makes his way from trench to trench alone, moving undetected
And on the fields of Passchendaele, a guiding light for reinforcements finding their way
And in the Battle of the Scarpe, bring ammo over no mans land and fire away
In the battle, the gas had them pinned
Pegahmagabow invoked the spirits of the wind
Under fire, a ghost that
Under fire, a ghost that roams the battlefield
Move between the lines, a soldier breaking the confines
Just another
Man and rifle, a marksman and a scout revealed
Makes his way from trench to trench alone, moving undetected
Francis stayed and fought throughout the war, made his way until the end alive
========= Historic Fact ==========

@@brandondavis4306 'TIs because today's "education" is more about blasting and berating our wonderful history.. More about beating it into our heads that our histories are awful and that we should be ashamed of both our nation's past. Heed not their hateful and spiteful words. History may be full of dark deeds, but it is countered by double the good and heroic deeds of great men. Got out of school a long time ago because of the hatefulness they teach nowadays.
@septimus7524

We must both be proud of either our nation's history. America and Canada alike are being taught to hate and feel ashamed of our pasts. Though history contains many dark deeds, there are more than double the good deeds of heroic and courageous men. Here in America public schooling doesn't even teach us about the great 54th Massachusetts Regiment, the all Black-American Infantry Regiment who fought for the Union in the American Civil War. They don't even teach American children of heroes like Audie Murphy, Alvin York, or even Roy Benavidez. We must be proud of our histories. Ignore *their* spiteful and contrary teachings. Teach your children, and your children's children of your nation's heroes and mighty deeds. We must not let either of our great histories die in shame.

The dude was insane, he snuck into german sleeping areas and cut pieces of their uniforms off. Imagine how terrifying it would be to go to sleep in the trenches and wake up missing a part of your uniform. Not just you but like everyone has some little bit cut off and you all slowly realize someone snuck in and cut parts off. The sheer terror of that would just destroy morale

Also in the Second Battle Of The Scarpe singlehandely ran over no mans land to the German trenshes to steal ammo for a machine gun, so that he had enough ammo to cover the escape of his fellow soldiers. Pretty awesome dude. A lot of people in this comment section talks about Simo "The White Death", but there's a couple of key differences between Simo and Pega. Simo did it in a place that he knew like the back of his own hand. Not on a completly destroyed battlefield with thousands of bullets and artilly shells hammering down all the time, and he had been training to shoot since he was a kid, where he was hunting with his dad. Pega had never even held a riffle in his hand before the war, and he was sent overseas to the trench hell warfare that was WW 1 and even had the guts to cross fucking No Mans Land multiple times to get more ammo and kills and a couple of German medals. Simo was amazing, but I still think Pega was even more awesome.

@@MyVanir Literally the opposite. They quite literally hammer in indigenous origin stories into kids' heads. And anyways, when was the last time you learned about this kind of stuff? Did you learn about Simo hayha in school? The Red baron? Any of the people sabaton sings about? The reason as to why we don't learn this stuff is because these people are nothing but tiny cogs in the giant machine and didn't make much of an impact in the grand scheme of things. Giving an indigenous man preferential treatment in history class just because he was indigenous is a bit... But I don't blame you for not knowing just how hardcore the Canadian school system is about hammering indigenous things into children's minds, you're a Yankee after all.

Sharkman104 I heard of this man because of his song and did some research. Damn. My Grandpa fought in the Pacific during WW2. Saw Hell. Retired after the Cuban Missile Crisis a Brigadier General. I know my Grandpa would of loved to shake Francis hand. As an American, I am glad Francis is getting the respect he deserves. Man deserves an A grade movie based on his life. By Spielberg! There had to be a scene of him returning from a scouting mission, dropping a map of the enemy trenches....then dumping all the medals belt buckles he “collected” while scouting next to the map. I believe the term is “Counting Coup”. AKA demoralizing the enemy and Trolling them too. Do you guys still have those? That would be an awesome addition if you have a museum section devoted to him. I could see a German looking closely at them and seeing one belonging to a family member......😰😅 I would like to think Francis is RIP in the afterlife. Showing other great snipers like “The White Death” and the Russian “Lady Death” how it’s really done. I can’t believe Canadians were so disrespectful to him after the war. I mean seriously. Don’t piss off a man who had an OFFICIAL kill count of 378. It’s like trying to do a home invasion to the house of a Navy Seal...and the wife is a police officer. I got to meet an actual Navy Seal. I asked him (home invasion happened locally) what should happen if this happened to him. His exact words. “Between me and my wife, they would never find the bodies”. This, and based off other things I read in the papers and online, NEVER PISS OF WAR VETERANS. Regardless of race, age, nationality, or gender. I hope Francis at least got to shoot the tires off a few of those assholes vehicles off. Maybe a few hats suddenly had “mysterious” holes appear in them too. Or a few keepsakes “disappeared”. 🤷‍♀️ What. He had the skills. As an American, as long as no one dies, (just gets taught a lesson in “respect”) that’s ok. There’s the law, then there is teaching someone a valuable “lesson” that may even save lives down the road. Haters are gonna hate. But they need to learn from far far far away. Like from 2 counties over. From face to face they need to say yes sir and yes mam like a civilized person.

The "different past" they're talking about is his Native heritage which he used to fight a war on his own terms. This man was the most hardcore soldier to the point he literally waged a psychological war of his own for shits and giggles. On one recon mission he went beyond simply scouting. He actually snuck into the German trench after assassinating the sentries and cut off bits of the soldiers' uniforms while they were all sleeping. He also left notes containing death threats. The Germans were so shit scared when they woke up realising that someone had been in their trench and chose to watch them while they slept. Like a ghost. All of them later surrendered to a nearby advancing British battalion 3 times smaller than their force because their morale was hit so hard. Sadly, he faced racism and ridicule from his fellow Canadian soldiers.

@@Pyrus425 "salty"? If you'll look in articles about this guy, you'll find out that he [was] in fact one of the leading themes of Finnish propaganda, "invisible Finnish soldier", "hero of mythical proportions". Now what propaganda can do with facts? Count wounded or presumely wounded soldiers as dead, count soldiers killed by regiment as soldiers killed by just this guy, count 1 killed soldier as 5, say that instead of 10 snipers there was just one in the area... You've got the picture. Francis Pegahmagabow on the other hand was not a propaganda figure, but quite real and capable sniper.

I'd argue, that Pega is the best sniper, maybe even best soldier, of all time. He didn't have the highest kill count, but still damn impressive. The reason he's the best, is bc he did so many other things than killing, that where detrimental to the enemies war effort, like stealing both ammo and enemy plans in their fucking trench. He also captured quite a high amount of enemies and even some high value targets. He also were a major factor to victory at Passchendaele and Scarpe. Not only was he a super skilled sniper, he was also a super skilled spy. I still think he is one of the most impressive soldiers of all time.
@vothbetilia4862
@vothbetilia4862 2 жыл бұрын
Bruh white death is nothing, he fought in snow terrain with iron sights sure but, while Francis literally fought in the woods and in trenches while being attacked by artillery and mustard gas and took medals from dead German corpses and went back and fourth just to retrieve ammunition and keep on killing. Plus if you were to choose between which one you rather be in, I'm pretty sure everyone would rather be in WW2 instead of being in trenches.
