I know you touched a bit upon it but here is some info. This song is about the Thirty Years' War that dominated central Europe in the 17th century (1618-1648). To this day it is one of the longest and bloodiest wars in history, with the death toll falling between 4 million and 8 million. Many of the fatalities were not even from active warfare, but famine and disease also plagued the area, upping the casualties that much more. Casualties reached such a high number that many Swedish men were forced to fight when they had barely reached manhood, and sometimes even before then. Which really makes the title of the song ("A Lifetime of War" in English) hit a little harder. Men basically spent their entire lives at war, no chance for a peaceful life. The was about the battle between Catholics and Protestants, and at some point during the war almost every major player/Country in Europe was a part of it. This Swedish version of the song tells the story from a Swedish soldier's point of view. You should also check out the English version; it is not a direct translation from the Swedish, but it rather tells the story of the war from the perspective of the outside people, those not involved directly in the war but were affected by it. The lyrics hits hard, but it also shows that even when times change, new technology comes, one thing remains constant and that is the horrors of the war, both those who fall in it and those who survive and have to live with nightmare every day (ptsd). Greetings from Denmark

to add to this, The Swedish nobility were charged with giving men to the army. They took in orphans and poor kids from the streets and raised them basically as cannon fodder. The line "who misses me?" basically means no one, no one misses a poor orphan boy whom at 13 was sent off to die in a war far way from home. Many were born in battle, lived their life in battle and died in battle, side by side with their fathers, borthers and cousins.

People like yourselves got me into Sabaton in the first place. You should start a podcast, because I could hear you waffle for hours, honestly. Do the Sabaton Starterpack! You've already done Bismarck and this, so: No Bullets Fly (the animated *story* version, very important, also: Alex will cry), Uprising (the official music video), The Great War, Night Witches (the animated story version) and the Royal Guard (the official music video). ⠀⠀...then there's always Ghost Division (live) Swedish Pagans (live), Carolus Rex, Devil Dogs and 22nd All the way (+ the Sabaton history episode of it, it's reaaally short and positively insane). I'd recommend that one checks out the official music video or lyric video BEFORE the live performances. I also love the English version of Carolus Rex, even if I get that the Swedish version is more impactful to the Swedes (the Swedish lyrics are richer, too - after all, it's their native language). The fact that you're so entertaining to listen to would make discussions about Sabaton history episodes hilarious. Don't feed the beast too quickly, though; you'll be doing Sabaton reactions until you die now, so take a breather now and then. Sabaton fans are really... To call it a world war would be wrong as it was a war between kingdoms and other type of rulers divided by faith ( catholic and protestants) in Northern Europe. First of all, great reaction!! Second, i know you would love Sabatons latests video ”Christmas trues” Third, the 40-years war was a very bloody war. Basically it was between the protestant countries and the holy roman empire. It involved most countries in Europe and was devastating for the civilians. Sweden took a lead role in this was with our king Gustavos Adolfi (Gustaf II Adolf). The bloodiest war if you count people killed was second world war. But if you look at the percentage based on the population at that time this war was much worse. In WWI about 3% of the population (military and civilians) in the involved countries died. In WWII about 6-10% died. In the 30-years war about 20-25% of the population died

The 30 Years´ War, was a religous war between protestants and catholics beginning in 1618 and ending 1648. Combined with this war are some other conflicts, like the last phase of the dutch independence war against Spain (1568-1648), a war between Spain and France and between France and Austria. Leader of the catholic league was Austria, leader of the protestant union was first the Duke of the Palatinate, then the King of Denmark and then the King of Sweden (Gustavus Adolphus the Great, Sabaton is a swedish band !) Main battlefield was the Holy Roman Empire (approx. Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and Austria today). Since it was mainly a religious war, the war parties fight to the bitter end and conscript every man to the army they could find, this could also be 14, 15 or 16 years old boys. In this time a soldier could be away from home for years, this means no contact to home -- modern telecommunication did not exist--. This situation is described in the Song. After the war, more than one third of the german population was dead. More than 50% of the land was devasted. In 1648 the parties signed a peace in Münster, Westphalia, (ü=ue) not because there was a victor, but because they are out of the ressources (men and money) to sustain the war. The peace cemented the independence of the protestantic faith, it also lays the fundament of the modern international law.

another bismarck design flaw was the cabling from the firecontrol(tells the turrets and guns how to position themselves) to the turrets was above the armour and got shot by the british shortly afterwards rendering the bismarck virtually useless. Also shout out to the polish crewed destroyer who challenged the bismarck with the following signal "Come fight me I'm a pole". Keep in mind there bismarck was about fourty times heavier then said destroyer. For other sabaton songs Fields of verdun, The last battle, resist and bite, Nucvlear attack, Back in control, wolfpack, midway and Devil dogs. Also shout out to Christmas Truce

The recoil of it guns was also a problem, it disturbed or destroyed it own radars. Another often foreseen factor was that instead of using the Kiel Chanel it traveled north close to the Swedish coast and was spotted by the Swedish light cruiser Gotland. Well some sneaky Swedes told the British everything so they directly knew it was heading out and with what company. Pro British parts of the Swedish navy had already told the britts a lot about the ship from their month long visits down at the German shipyards also.

Morning The Thamesmen. Thanks for another great video reaction. Sabaton are a great live band and they are touring next year (The Tour To End All Tours) so get yourself along to one if and when they do North America- you'll not be disappointed. Camouflage trousers are mandatory btw. For getting your war nerd on, I'd recommend 'No Bullets Fly' kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqTPgGBpfMyYpLs as your next watch- it gives you an idea of just how far what they do as a band goes and how far music can reach. Keep up the good work and have a most excellent day.

Pro tip: Yesterday they released a new single (and video) from their upcoming album. The song is called "Christmas Truce" about the infamous real life story from World War 1 when soldiers on opposing sides pretty much celebrated christmas together, hung out, played soccer, exhanged prisoners and gifts etc. The song and video is incredible. I suggest you react to that one.

"30 years war? Must be a Swedish thing" More like a European thing, almost everyone was involved. Sweden, Denmark, France, Holy roman empire (Germany), Spain, the Dutch, Romania but also used mercenaries from all over like Croatian cavalry and Scottish troops. Britain was one of the few european countries that didnt join which is probably why you guys never heard about it. (unless its a skit by Fry and Laurie kzbin.info/www/bejne/mV66gGppec1qqLs )

More suggestions: No bullets fly, Defence of Moscow, Devil Dogs to name a few, they are all good but it's impossible to sit still when listening to the last one - that's extremely catchy and is about how the US Marines (allegedly) got their nick name "Devil Dogs" in 1918 at the Battle of Belleu Wood.

The lyrics are not perfectly translated.but it gives a gist of of it. God damn Google translation. For example; war "might" destroy a man or "could" destroy a man. Another example, So see me for what I am a husband a friend, father and son. Etc. it goes on. Anyway it hits you more if you know about the thirty year war and that the Swedish soldiers went out to war with their fellow men from the same village together. So fathers went out and when their sons became fighting age, it's their turn, again fighting with the people you grew up with. I hope I made some sense with all this rambling.

Ok, bad timing from me considering this is a sabaton vidio, but I would love to surgest another one, a music vidio released a few hours ago - christmas truce. Apparently there first one about peace rather then war (oh well.. for a day..). The song is not there most bombastic one, far from it, but the vidio was amazing and at one moment my eyes had an alergic rection and started leaking. Its on there youtube Chanel, kzbin.info/www/bejne/foHHeZ5-qNF5f7c

The song is about a soldier and his story and at that time many formed a family early and those who did not have money were called up for the war at 16 or if it was 18 years old and were married with children then the soldier was both father, husband and son to its parents, but the song has a different meaning in the English version and I recommend that you check out the story on their second channel. Great reaction guys. Was that a great live performance or what? And don't feel bad about not knowing much about the thirty years war, I don't think you are alone in that department (it was a while ago after all...). Besides, that's easily remedied by watching the corresponding Sabaton History channel video...👍 As for your next Sabaton reaction, my suggestion would be "Night Witches" - animated STORY video (it's the one that's 7.22 minutes long) it's GREAT! The subject matter in that one is the simply awesome Russian all female WW2 588th night bomber regiment. Comprised of girls as young as 17, that kicked some serious Nazi butt in outdated bi-planes. Greetings from the land of reindeer banger's... Mmm, reindeer banger's, the food of the old Norse gods!😁

Nice reaction. should have used the video i recommended tho. Better translations of the lyrics and also explains the 30 year old war in the beginning. I honestly cringe everytime i see the Captions on the official video. Dont get me wrong. its better than nothing. But it still feels like a middleschoolers school project who translated it. But yeah. As a Swede. Reading the translation from "För kriget det kan, förgöra en man" to "Becuase of the war, destroy a man" it's super cringe on how bad the translation is. Not even close to what he sings. Even Google translate did a better translation and that says something.
