Thanks for reacting to this fine song, live at Gotheburg! I appreciate that you thought of the song pointing out the nitty gritty details of individuals who realize they could die, and wonder why, if anyone will miss them. Another poster pointed out that at the end, Joakim is singing harmony with the crowd singing the melody. Lots of people who have fallen into the Sabaton hole are now learning smatterings of Swedish! One poster said it took him awhile to learn how to sing this in Swedish, and now he sings it to his son. Anyway, looking forward to all your reactions, not only of Sabaton, but also others that you want to react to. Here are the Swedish lyrics. There are many similarities with English. If you want to see Sabaton in a tiny venue, check out Sabaton September 17, 2022 in Portland at the Roseland Theatre. Covid restrictions had just been lifted, and everyone was so glad to be back at a live concert! The Portland videos also show how much Sabaton musicians interact with their audience. Especially Ghost Division, Storm Troopers at the beginning, and Swedish Pagans and To Hell and Back. Also, Soldier of Heaven is really well done there, with the drummer Hannes saying, "Who wants to hear more heavy metal?" And the crowd cheering. And Hannes says, "Sorry, this next song is disco, but the one after that will be heavy metal." "En Livstid I Krig" - "A Lifetime Of War". Apparently this is about Sweden's participation in the Thirty Years War (1618-1648). Sweden has not officially been at war since 1814. Thinkin' that if you were in the middle of that crowd, you'd have to fight for your life to get out of it ...! 😊

If you were sent away in war a few hundred years ago it was in many cases a death sentence.. 3/4 didn't even die in battle but from starvation, cold or illnesses. Just the ride with the ships to continental Europe took many lives.

@@hnorrstrom I know that the Thirty Years War was a terrible time in Central Europe and that many towns and cities were laid waste. Sweden has been one of the more sensible countries in avoiding war since the Napoleonic era - its a pity that even in the modern era lessons have not been learned by others in that regard. Literally the opposite of war romanticism. The only line that could be perceived as that is the “Jag ger mitt liv till mitt fosterland” (I give my life to the homeland) but as long as you aren’t as dense as a literal rock you’d understand that the context of the song is from that of a Swedish soldier back in the 1600’s. And they did, in fact, go out in war to “defend the homeland” (or so they were told). It is not wrapped in a thin veil of “anti-war” messages, it is literally a song about the pointlessness of going to war, and how it isn’t at all about “heroism”. In fact, you’d have to really be reaching to find anything that suggests this song even remotely romanticizes war. Sure, Swedish ultra-nationalists have managed to perceive it as such, but we all know they aren’t the most intelligent bunch. That is not what the song was meant to be at all. As far as stuck in the 80’s goes, perhaps you might be right, but good thing that the 80’s was the absolute best decade for metal then. More 80’s style, yes please.
