The Battle of Verdun was until recently the longest active battle in history, going on for 303 days. It was recently surpassed by the Battle of Bakhmut in Ukraine, which is currently on day 312, as of June 9th.

Excellent reaction and insightful comments. Although a lot of their catalog is WW1 and WW2, they have covered other wars, specifically an entire album dedicated to the rise and fall of the Swedish Empire (Carlos Rex, released with both English and Swedish lyrics, often with different words and emphasis). They also have songs about Sparta, Vikings, the Polish Hussars, Japanese Samari, Scottish battle of independence, British versus Zulu, Soviets versus Afghan, and the Swiss guard.

One of the main reasons for why they mostly cover ww1 (also sometimes called The Great War or The War To End All Wars) & ww2 is because they are documented in much better detail and by more sides/ people than anything before that. They have done older times, like the 4 X platinum (in Sweden) "Carolus Rex" album of 2012. I would recommend these music videos from Sabaton. Even if the music is not quite your "cup of tea" at least the videos are great! Seven Pillars of Wisdom (it's filmed in the Sahara desert, in Tunisia! The band was, all 5 in the same car, in a pretty serious car crash leaving that shoot. If you want something more recent: Panzer Battalion covers the invasion of Iraq in 2003. HIll 3234 covers a Soviet last stand on a mountain in Afghanistan, during the Soviet-Afghanistan war. Back in Control covers the British invasion of the Falkland islands If you want something older than WW1: Winged Hussars covers the Ottoman siege of Vienna in 1529 Shiroyama covers the Battle of Shiroyama in 1877, where 500 Samurai fought against the Japanese military Sparta covers the battle of thermopylae, where 300 Spartans fought off a huge army of Persians for a couple days The entirety of the Carlorus Rex album (either the English or Swedish version) covers the swedish empire and the 30 year war.

Great reaction, guys!🤘 Yes, they have songs about other wars and battles, but most of their songs are about WW1 and WW2. They do have a whole album about the Swedish Empire, that basically started during the 30 years war in Europe (when Skåne still belonged to Denmark) and ended in the early 1700:s (by that time Skåne was Swedish territory.😉). But hey, Sweden were practically in war with everybody in the neighborhood back then... 😏 Sabaton don't have a lot music videos from that album, but I'd suggest "The Royal Guard" (official music video) and "Livgardet" (official music video. Swedish version of Royal Guard.) Same song, different languages and music videos. They made those in 2020-2021. The Swedish Royal Guard celebrated 500 years in 2021. But the music video shows the skirmish of Bender in 1713.

The Battle of Verdun was one of the largest battles of the First World War on its Western Front. It took place near the French city of Verdun. The bloody battle lasted from 21 February 1916 to 18 December 1916, which is approximately 10 months, due to the large number of fallen soldiers, it was also referred to as the Verdun Meat Grinder. A letter from a French soldier “Dear mother, we have crossed the forest of Vaux Chapitre. It is a horror, one crater next to another, in each lay three or four dead, French and German, one over the other. Here are the dead from October, below them those who died in June, and then only the bare skeletons of those from March. Some still look like they are sleeping, the blue and gray uniforms are greenish today. We find pieces of bodies, they are almost like trees that have neither crowns nor branches here. The bullets tore them to the core. It is desolate and quiet here. A huge graveyard of people. We jump over the dead, we fear them. Tomorrow we go on the offensive. Pray for me.

The Great War- paa dansk Den Store krig- was the common denomination btw 1918 to 1939. Until then, few people believed there would occur yet another great war involving global warfare. Sabaton has made several albums about Great War =WWI. They have also covered many different wars during history, even if WWI and WWII are most covered. So far nothing from Denmark specific as I know, though 1864 could give easily give them material, I believe. Many countries all over the world have been touched upon in their songs. For instance Smoking Snakes, Brazilian soldiers taking part in WWII in the invasion of Italy. Bulls Run about Zulu wars in South Africa are some of the more unknown histories. There is also an album from the Carolean era. Most of those wars were fought outside Sweden, but there is one song which covers the march where swedish troops cross over the Norwegian fjells back to Sweden after the fall of Carl XII. 1718.Ruina Imperii. I don't think there is an official video though. There are 2 versions of the history of the Royal Guards, Kungliga livgardet, one in Swedish and one in English. Same lyrics only translated, but 2 totally different film sequences in those versions. In the chorus there are references to the crossing of the Belts. The bandmembers dress up and fight as Royal Guards in the video.

Little titbit on the actual battle it was only fought on a 24 km front. Verdun it self was of no importance it was ment to draw britsh soldiers towards the south By doing masive casualties on the french . If the britisch army moved more south it would weaken the some , paschendael fronts so the germans would punch through . it failed and both sided became obssed with this symbolic town with no strategic value but , had significant underlying value as it was the treaty of verdun 843 . was the birth of france , Lotheringia and What would become the holy roman empire - germany .
