Indy Neidell is a historian mostly for the first world war but he doesn't stick to just that time. He has a channel where he talks about history, also he is a good friend of the band, and while he is american by birth he has lived a lot of places including Sweden and Norway. He has also traveled with a few bands in his time.

Thanks for checking this out it makes the songs that more meaningful. I think I said it in my other post but Poland was attacked by Germany and Russia and help out almost as long as france did with the it's help only fighting the Germans. As an american myself even if I am a history buff when I learned this I wondered why It was never taught correctly. Thanks for looking at it 😀👍

Poland may have held out almost as long as France did but I think you're forgetting a couple things. For one, Germany invaded Poland with 66 divisions of inexperienced troops and 5,000 tanks and aircraft. Germany invaded France with 141 divisions (over 3.5 million men) and 8,000 tanks and aircraft. Two very different invasion forces. Germany also had the whole combined arms warfare / blitzkrieg thing mastered by June 1940. France definitely wouldn't have fallen as fast as they did if not for Manstein's brilliant "sickle cut" maneuver through the Ardennes. You also mention that Poland was invaded by Germany and Russia (who invaded well after the Polish army had already been broken and in full retreat) and you say France only had to fight Germany yet you fail to mention the 300,000 Italian troops invading France through the Alps. Let's face it, France, Poland, Denmark, Belgium, Holland...everybody got steamrolled in the opening stages of the war. Just look at the casualty statistics on both side for any of these invasions. 59,000 German casualties to 874,000 Polish casualties....163,000 German casualties to 2.2 million French and British casualties. These were major countries falling after mere weeks of fighting. Of course there were many examples of brave resistance and even minor victories against the Germans but overall there was really no match in any of these early invasions.

@@JM-ji9kx you are correct. They all got rolled over but my point was Poland was the only one attacked on 2 fronts and they held out almost as long as what was considered the best land army in Europe if not the world. And france had english(low countries as well since they all fought) support as lacking as it may have been. And the French holding the line for the British evacuation deserves credit as well. Just stating things how I see them.

@@JM-ji9kx Where did you get your casualty figures from? During the 6 week Polish Campaign 260,000 Poles died. Of these 60,000 to 66,000 were Polish soldiers. Of the invaders between 17,000 to 22,500 Germans were killed, 3,000 to 9,000 Soviets killed and 3,000 Slovaks. Of course, Poles kept on fighting alongside their allies in the West in the Battle of France, Narvik, Battle of Britain, North Africa, Italian Campaign, Normandy, Belgium, Holland and Germany. From 1942 the First and Second Polish Peoples Armies (Polish Communist led) fought alongside the Red Army all the way to Berlin and Dresden. Initially, the Germans had superior military tactics, better trained soldiers and weaponry in conquering Europe and getting to the gates of Moscow, but by then the allies matched them for weaponry and military skill.

@@vorsutus753 You might mention the 85,000 Free Polish Forces who fought during the Battle Of France as well. Only 35,000 of these were evacuated to Britain (mainly Scotland) while the rest joined the French Resistance, or interned in Switzerland and Spain, although many of these managed to escape or be released to join the Free Polish Forces during the course of the war.

great reaction man, you earned my sub. And i'd recommend watching all of their history episodes (even if it's just for yourself and not as a reaction) as its some really cool stuff. The historian (Indy) has done a lot of stuff here on youtube including a literal day by day, week by week history show about WWI and an ongoing WWII. As for a song recommendation for sabaton I'd go for the Last Battle. Its about US and German troops fighting together against the Waffen SS.......in a castle.

I am so glad you chose to do the history behind the song. You would be shocked to find out how much inaccurate history has been taught to us here in the US.

Yes. Guderian was dispatched by Hitler from Westerplatte (WWII started there on September 1st) to push for all cost, because German army stuck at Wizna, and that was slowing down Blitzkrieg. Guderian indeed said will shot prisoners at scene if Raginis won`t surrend hill. Cpt Raginis and Brykalski (artillery commander) swore to defend that place or stay there forever. After battle when red army get there they suppressed/terrorized local people from showing respect to fallen defenders.

Unfortunately, no one from our allies helped us and we had to fight alone against the Germans and Russians, and we gave them a lot of trouble.

1. If someone thinks that the Polish Army was charging the tanks with horses - this is not entirely normal, even stupid, who believed the German propaganda and then (how strange!) The English and Russian propaganda. Polish cavalry brigades in 1939 were mobile units (horses) with a high saturation of anti-tank weapons. Learn the history of the battle near the village of Mokra - Volyn Cavalry Brigade against Reinhardt's 4th Armored Division - Polish victory en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Mokra. The Polish Army in 1921-1939 was prepared for a maneuvering war with Russia. In March 1939, the first units were moved from the east to the west and plans were made to defend against Germany. Take a look at the map of Europe of that time, 1939. Polish border with Germany: deep north, long western border, and an equally deep penetration from the southern border - the cauldron before battle. Politics won with military plans. The borders had to be defended along their entire length - an impossible task. The reason for this was the provisions of Poland's pacts with France and Great Britain - if the Polish Army could place defense on rivers in the interior of the country - the defense would be more effective. 2. Technical advantage - definitely on the side of Germany. Do you remember World War I? Poland was not on the map then. Do you remember the invasion of Soviet Russia on Poland and the Battle of Warsaw in 1920? Only 20 years have passed - the young state was just building its economy - a lot has been achieved (look at the city of Gdynia, the Central Industrial District, etc.) but we could not compete with the German economy, which - although in the crisis after World War I - had an impact on military orders in the thirties. 3 Take a look at the situation September 16, 1939 - German troops occupied a large part of the Polish land, but the east of the country (forests and swamps) and the south-east (the Romanian mountain ramparts) gave the allies (France and England) a chance to help fighting Poland. Help never came. On September 17, 1939, the Red Army entered eastern Poland. Knife in the back. The last battle was Kock at the beginning of October 1939. It was interrupted due to the lack of ammunition on the Polish side, but tactically victorious - equal forces taking part in this battle. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Kock_(1939). In conclusion - never believe in an alliance with France. In times of need - they will fail, and when they themselves are endangered - they will surrender and let them humiliate in a railway car.

Thankfully, a growing number of non Polish historians such as Roger Moorhouse who wrote 'First to Fight: The Polish War 1939', now provide English speakers a full picture of the Polish WW11 experience.
