The Purple Heart is a medal given to US Armed Forces members who have been wounded or killed by enemy action. The first Purple Heart was awarded to Army Chief of Staff General Douglas MacArthur, who spearheaded the design and launch of the medal. I had a period in 2015, I broke up with my wife, lost my job, started drinking a lot, it went on for several years, even started thinking about the bad (ending this life) I have always been doing sports in the past, sitting over a glass of vodka once again and watching KZbin, I saw a clip of Sabaton Primo Victoria, I listened to all their albums in the evening, I had not heard about this band before, I was so inspired by their tracks that I had a desire to change my life, quit drinking, go in for sports as before, thank you Sabaton, thanks to the lyrics in your songs, where people are fighting with their last strength for survival, I realized how insignificant my problems are compared to what people experienced in wars, I found the strength to change my life, now I run 10 km and Sabaton always plays in headphones, thank you, you changing people's lives without even knowing it

All US veterans who have received the Purple Heart, that I’ve met, are some of the strongest, bravest, and proudest people I’ve ever met. They’re not happy their hurt, but they’d all do it again, and are extreme humble to be alive. Most memorable one to me was my late neighbor Joe. He was shot in Chosin. Always told stories of how “that damned hill in Korea” was hell. Then he’d end with, I’d do it all over again, it was worth it. I think we did good, there.

As a boy, I remember pestering my father to tell me about the various accouterments adorned on his dress uniform. A lot of things stuck out to me: a CIB (2nd Award), a Parachustist Badge, and two cords (the Infantry Blue Cord, and the Schützenschnur). As we went down his ribbons, he stopped at the Purple Heart. He then told me about how he was awarded this medal because he was wounded due to an enemy ambush in 2003 (the beginning of the Iraq War). Stepping away from his uniform, he pulled out a memory box from his closet and took out the actual Purple Heart Medal he had pinned on him. Looking at it, I remember I had seen the Purple Heart many times before, though I did not know it. Every time he would pick me up from school, drive me somewhere, and now following him in my own car to this very day, the license plate on the back of his car details the Purple Heart along with the words "COMBAT WOUNDED VETERAN" displayed at the bottom. Since then, he has completed his service and is retired now. As of today, he is alive and well living a well-deserved, peaceful life. He was back then and still is the bravest, most headstrong man I've ever known.

The purple heart was created by Gen. George Washington in 1782 to recognize meritorious service in combat. Though it was called the badge of military merit and took the form of a heart of purple cloth. It fell into dissue and was revived in 1932. The medal was changed as a recognition of combat injuries and deaths. The first award of the purple heart was Feb. 22, 1932. So you typically wouldnt be likely to see it on a civil war soldier...not in its modern incarnation anyway which is for a person wounded or killed on or after April 5, 1917. So while the imagery here isnt what one might call historical maybe it could be seen as paying tribute to the men who might have deserved such recognition but never received it? Thats my thinking anyway.
