Interesting factoid: Joakim Broden has no vocal training and never intended to be a singer. When Sabaton formed he was the keyboard player and had written a few songs which the band asked him to sing to get an idea of the melodies. The band did not have a lead singer and asked him to fill in until they could find one. As Joakim puts it, "They never did...lazy bastards."

This was a fantastic winner for the Metal Theme. You're right. The compass is significant, but I haven't found reliable sources as to why. Fairly reasonable to assume the compass taken from the Bismark captain is the one the tugboat skipper has. Some folks point out the numbers scratched onto it match fairly well the coordinates where the ship sank. Others believe the skipper is a descendant of the rescued German sailor: son or grandson.

A slight correction, the Royal Navy claimed to have sunk the Bismarck, but the survivors of the Bismarck had refuted that claim from the start saying they scuttled the ship to prevent it from being boarded. Robert Ballard, the man who discovered the wreck of Bismarck (and the Titanic among others), preformed a survey of the ship, noting that the hull was in very good shape, with no holes beneath where the waterline of the ship would be. The hull also never imploded, which would happen if the water tight doors were sealed like they should be normally. This further supported the claim from the German sailors that they scuttled the ship, as opening all of the water tight doors is standard when scuttling that way the ship floods and when the charges are set off. He and his team concluded that the actual cause of the ship sinking was from internal sabatoge within the engine room by the crew, and not the Royal Navy.
@leonrussell960716 күн бұрын
Why did they scuttle the ship? Because they got hammered
@frednone8 күн бұрын
Right, the British had nothing to do with the sinking, the Bismark's crew just got bored wandering around the Atlantic.
@goldenhedgehog98 күн бұрын
@@frednone The killing blow that caused the Bismark to sink was internal. The Royal navy knocked the guns out and hammered the super structure, but those hits are not going to compromise the hull of the boat to cause an intake water and sink. Opening all the water tight doors and setting charges in the engine room however, will cause a ship to sink. By the time the british launched the torpedoes that they credited as the cause for the sinking, the charges had already been detonated and Bismarck was listing so badly that the deck was partly underwater and when the torpedoes hit one of them struck the superstructure itself.

In case anyone's wondering, the Royal Navy's best warships...HMS Rodney and HMS King George V...along with cruisers Dorsetshire and Sheffield...spent more than 2 hours pummeling Bismarck in the final engagement. Rodney even put a torpedo into Bismarck, becoming the only battleship in all of history to torpedo another ship. And Bismarck still wouldn't sink. Dorsetshire put a spread of torpedoes into Bismarck and THAT wasn't enough. Bismarck's own crew had to put her down with scuttling charges.

The allied did not sink the Bismarck, they made video like this because of the game. 1 torpedo hit the rudder, preventing the ship from steering and could only go in circles, but in the wreck they found all torpedo walls, none had taken any damage at all and the only penetrations of the hull(two) was way above the water line where it have very thin armor and almost no slope. The german crew sank the ship by placing explosives on the insides, to prevent the flagship of n-germany, the pride of adolf, to fall in to the hands of the allies

What should be noted is the Bismarck was not the only ship of its class it had a sister ship Tirpitz. After chasing the Bismarck and sinking her the Royal Navy feared Tirpitz making a run of it. Some In-depth info: The "Bismarck" , and his sister ship "Tirpitz", were the 2 largest battleships ever built in Europe (250 meters long, 36 meters wide, and displacing more than 50.000 tones) and they were the pride of the Kriegsmarine (Germany's Military navy) during Ww2. The "Bismarck" set sail in May 1941 to reach the Atlantic and destroy merchant convoys, but he was intercepted by the British and during a brief fight, destroyed the former flagship of the British fleet and pride of the Royal Navy, the worldwide famous battlecruiser "Hood", by penetrating her armor and detonating her aft main ammunition magazine and killing all 1400 members of her crew except for 3 men, and heavily damaged the battleship "Prince of Wales". This enraged the prime minister Winston Churchill who ordered all his ships in the Atlantic to abandon their operations and destroy the Bismarck. In total more than 40 ships participated to the hunt, making it the biggest naval hunt in history. Meanwhile Bismarck, who had received a hit during the first battle, was leaking fuel and was trying to reach the French port of Saint Nazaire, in occupied France, for repair. After 3 days of playing cat and mouse with the British, Bismarck was attacked by airplanes launched from the aircraft carrier "Ark Royal" and hit by a torpedo in the stern, which jammed his rudders during evasive maneuvers, meaning that he was forced to sail in circles, just a few miles away from reaching air cover. In the end battleships "King George V" and "Rodney", along side the heavy cruisers "Norfolk" and "Dorsedshire" fought the already doomed battleship and, during the following 90 minutes completely destroyed it. However, despite having all his guns destroyed, and having received more than 400 hits (out of the 2800 shells that the British had fired at it) his armor was still mostly intact and the ship was still afloat. So the British launched another 4 torpedoes and he disappeared beneath the waves. After inspection of the wreck however it had been discovered that the torpedoes did no significant damage thanks to the battleship's excellent armor, and that Bismarck had been scuttled by his crew (although it should be noted that many historians believe that it would have eventually sunk due to the damage received). Of the 2200 men that served on it, only 114 survived.

"Funny" thing is, that Bismark was sink by a pre-ww2 aircratft, a humbe Fairey Swordfish, that managed to hit the ship rudder, that ultimately sealed it's fate. David and Goliath reference.

There were 2000 men and 1 cat on the Bismarck, The cat was one of the Survivors of the Bismarck. The cat was named Sam, and he went on to survive the sinking of both HMS ships that he was the ship's cat on. He is known as Unsinkable Sam. Sam went on to live out his life at Admiralty House at Gibraltar. The Graphics in the Video of all the ships were done by the World of Warships graphics department of Wargaming Inc, A video Gaming Company.
