One day, we decided to take a nice little trip to the Yoruba and Pidgin speaking market of Lagos, and were offered everything from traditional Nigerian clothing like kaftans and ankaras to a unique method of "male enhancement". We also discovered a common way that Nigerians resolve disputes.

If you don’t haggle enough they will outright rob you. It’s a line you have to be aware of. When I was in the navy I found it was better it pay a guide his wage. Aggressiveness is a way of life in Nigerian market. They don't find that offensive, and they don't even notice they are being aggressive to foreigners who aren't used to such lifestyle, so to adapt you have to be aggressive too. Tommy, the woman who took the bottled water that made you to pay for her was not robbing you, rather she was so amazed that you could speak her language...by saying eleyi gbo Yoruba...mo ma mu omi l'owo e (direct translation: this one understands Yoruba, I will drink his water)...which means that that Yoruba you spoke must no go without a price...that means acceptance...A typical Yoruba woman will never collect anything, or have anything to do with you if she doesn't like you. Her knowledge of English Language may be poor...but your ability to express yourself in her language means that you like her people.

Yeah it's the market place where people from multiple countries in West and even Central Africa come to sell their products. That's in Lagos, a city with 20+ million inhabitants. It's like the New York of Nigeria with the multi culturism, hustle and busle. It's often reffered to as its own country because it's so different from the rest of Nigeria. If he wants to experience real Nigeria with the Nigerian culture, he should go to the capital Abuja (Africa's most well planned city) or other cities such Jos in Plateau state (I recommend you search this up, really breath taking! My favorite state to visit by far!), Enugu, Calabar, Benin City, Port Harcourt, Kano etc. All these cities are way more cleaner (Enugu and Abuja being one of the cleanest cities on the continent), less populated and way more organised. But I guess since he already went to an organised and less populated city in Rwanda, he now wants to go to a completely opposite place with a lot of chaos and Lagos checks that box lol😂
